Top five class of 2025 football recruits from Ohio

Top five class of 2025 football recruits from Ohio #GoBucks

The Ohio State football recruiting class of 2024 was a success and included eight elite players from the state of Ohio including future star cornerback, Aaron Scott from Holland, Ohio. Homegrown talent is a vital part of the lifeblood of the Ohio State football program and I wanted to take time to dive into the next class of Buckeye State stars.

When looking at the class of 2025, the Buckeyes look to be in great shape and have verbal commitments from two of the top five Ohio prospects and are the odds-on favorite for a third. In the day and age of name, image and likeness, following recruiting has become a bit more mundane with players flipping wildly due to the promise of cash.

But with the Buckeyes gaining momentum in that department they should be able to make that situation work for and not against them. Let’s examine the top five prospects for the class of 2025 in the state of Ohio.

Can USC keep Julian Lewis’ commitment after his reclassification to 2025?

This recruitment does not feel settled. USC will have to clear more hurdles.

Announcing that he will be reclassifying to the 2025 recruiting class, Julian Lewis, the 6-1, 185-pound quarterback from Carrollton, Georgia, will see his recruitment heat up again.

Lewis committed to USC last year in August, choosing the Trojans over Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, and Texas A&M. He made it clear that Lincoln Riley’s history with quarterbacks was the deciding factor. Riley, who is only 40 years old, has already coached three Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks: Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Caleb Williams. The first two were also the first overall picks in the NFL draft, and Williams is expected to join them.

LSU has moved on and secured the commitment of the No. 1 recruit and quarterback in the 247Sports composite rankings, Bryce Underwood. Ohio State, a Big Ten rival, signed the No. 4 quarterback in the 2024 class, Air Noland, and the Buckeyes already have an elite 2025 quarterback commit in Tavien St. Clair. Elite quarterbacks do not sign in pairs, so these two schools are out of the running.

That leaves two other schools Lewis has visited twice since committing to USC: Georgia and Alabama. Lewis is from Georgia, and the Bulldogs are in need of an elite quarterback after Dylan Raiola flipped his commitment on signing day and signed with his father’s alma mater, Nebraska. While Alabama signed the top quarterback in the 2024 class, Julian Sayin, the Tide will likely still be in the market for another signal-caller in the 2025 class.

Julian and his family are very familiar with the local powerhouses that will pursue him until early signing day in December, and he chose USC. Perhaps the words of Julian’s father, TC Lewis, will help to ease concerns in Troy.

In an interview with 247Sports last summer, TC explained: “If Lincoln Riley doesn’t go [to an SEC team], it’s not an option.  With the word of NIL and that school academically and everything LA can bring and seeing the type focus Caleb has had and talking to Caleb’s dad about it, there is nowhere else to go. It seems like the smart move.”

It is often said that actions speak louder than words. Julian Lewis has a 25-3 record as the starting quarterback at Carrollton High School, but there have been rumors that he may transfer to Mater Dei or St. John Bosco in Southern California. While his father’s words are reassuring to Trojan fans, a move out west would certainly secure his son’s commitment to Lincoln Riley’s program. However, there is no guarantee this will happen. Dylan Raiola, who played high school football in Chandler, Arizona, transferred to Georgia to play his senior year, and we know how that ended.

The one thing you can always rely on in high school recruiting: it’s fluid. So buckle up, Trojans; it might be a bumpy ride.

Ohio State quarterback commit Tavien St. Clair will play in prestigious all-star game

Great news for St. Clair. #GoBucks

Getting selected to one of the major all-star games is a right of passage for many high school star football players, and Ohio State 2025 commit [autotag]Tavien St. Clair[/autotag] has made his decision.

The No. 4 quarterback in his class on the 247Sports composite will finish his high school career by playing in the All-American Bowl.

It’s been quite the rise for the future Buckeye. He was once ranked in the 300’s before committing to Ohio State. After getting looked at again by the major recruiting services, St. Clair has risen to No. 57 in the nation.

The last future Buckeye quarterback to play in the All-American Bowl was Lincoln Kienholz, who threw for two touchdowns in an impressive showing last year. Hopefully, St. Clair finishes his high school career just like his future teammate did.

Ohio State commit Tavien St. Clair makes meteoric rise in recruiting rankings

Was there ever a doubt? #GoBucks

If there is one position that you shouldn’t worry about at [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag], it’s quarterback.

Head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] has earned everyone’s trust with his track record. Since Day has been in Columbus, each of his quarterbacks has gone on to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.

Many questioned why the Buckeyes took a commitment from 2025 in-state quarterback [autotag]Tavien St. Clair[/autotag] due to his low recruiting rankings. Once again, Day showed everyone that he is one of the best at finding a signal caller that will rise up the rankings (see 2024 commit Air Noland).

When St. Clair committed to the Buckeyes, he was rated as the No. 234 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Today, the Bellefontaine native shot up almost 100 spots to 144th overall.

In their in-house rankings, the rise was even larger. St. Clair went from the No. 244 overall prospect to the 35th, just outside 5-star status. That’s a rise of over 200 spots, and once other networks update their rankings, his composite score should normalize around the top 50 players in the country.

More proof that Ryan Day knows how to scout quarterbacks.

Watch: Ohio State quarterback commit Tavien St. Clair launches a throw to the moon

That’s a big arm on the Buckeye commit #GoBucks

There was some surprise when 2025 quarterback [autotag]Tavien St. Clair[/autotag] made commited to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag].

It’s not that the in-state signal caller wasn’t good enough, it was that the Buckeyes have been chasing other targets for much longer. It’s hard to argue with any offer Ohio State makes at the position: Head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag]’s track record has earned him plenty of slack.

Regardless of the situation, the Buckeyes found the cornerstone of their 2025 recruiting class, St. Clair, and he has provided glimpses why Ohio State wanted him. His frame changed since the end of his sophomore year and with it came new strength.

St. Clair’s arm is much livelier, and this clip he shared on Twitter backs that up. He launches a ball over 70 yards, showing he has the arm strength to play for the Buckeyes.

St. Clair stands 6 feet, 3 1/2 inches and weighs 210 pounds. He is the No. 17 quarterback and No. 238 overall player in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports composite. If he continues his upward trajectory like many previous Ohio State recruits, St. Clair’s ranking will improve before he ends up in Columbus.

Ohio State gets commitment from 4-star QB recruit Tavien St. Clair

They’ve since added two blue chip quarterbacks to their upcoming classes.

The Buckeyes may have lost 2024’s No. 1 overall QB recruit Dylan Raiola to Georgia. However, they’ve since added two blue chip quarterbacks to their upcoming classes. The first was Langston Hughes (Ga.) four-star QB Air Nolan, who committed to Ohio State’s class of 2024 back in April.

Yesterday they got another when Bellefontaine (Ohio) four-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.

St. Clair (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) had offers from 24 other programs, including Alabama, Florida and arch-rival Michigan.

Asked about his decision, St. Clair told Steve Wiltfong at 247Sports that it’s about tradition and QB development.

“Just the tradition, the excellence in football and the people outside of football really, The quarterback development is the best there is. Being a kid in Ohio you dream about being a Buckeye. I felt in my heart this is the spot for me…”

Ohio State’s class of 2025 now has two members – the other being Douglass (Ga.) five-star safety Jontae Gilbert. They rank fifth in the nation in the too early to matter rankings for the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Scout’s view: Ohio State’s newest commit, 2025 quarterback Tavien St. Clair

Ohio State found another quarterback to keep the offense at an elite level #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] did not need to go far to find its 2025 quarterback and didn’t have to wait long to get a verbal.

Bellefontaine native, [autotag]Tavien St. Clair,[/autotag] announced on Wednesday evening that he was committing to the Buckeyes after multiple visits this spring and earning an offer in the process.

It gives Ohio State an early cornerstone piece for the class, one that should be yet another that is extremely highly rated. Typically when a quarterback makes a commitment early, he goes on and recruits others to join him. Expect St. Clair to do exactly that.

He’s a very interesting prospect, one that has seen his stock rise over the last few months. Here is my scout’s view on what to expect from St. Clair after watching his sophomore highlight tape.

BOOM! Ohio State finds its 2025 quarterback in-state

A long awaited BOOM for the Buckeyes #GoBucks

Although it is over a year and a half before the 2025 prospects can sign, [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] football has already found its quarterback and didn’t have to go far.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bellefontaine, Ohio signal caller, [autotag]Tavien St. Clair,[/autotag] verballed to the Buckeyes, giving them a fast-rising quarterback in the class. He becomes the second commit of the class, cornerback Jontae Gilbert was the first to commit.

St. Clair has seen his stock soar this off-season, as he put on over 25 pounds since the end of the season and earned offers from not only Ohio State but Alabama, Michigan, LSU, and others.

The rising junior just camped in Columbus and the visit sealed the deal for the No. 25 quarterback and 333rd overall player in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

It may seem like the Buckeyes are reaching, considering the rash of 5-star signees at the position, but St. Clair checked all the boxes for head coach Ryan Day and quarterback coach Corey Dennis. Expect the newest Ohio State quarterback/s ranking to climb before he signs.

Michigan offers Ohio quarterback who already held Ohio State offer

Most likely an offer in vain #GoBucks

It’s fairly typical for a quarterback to get an [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offer then see multiple schools follow suit.

That’s exactly what happened with Ohio 2025 quarterback [autotag]Tavien St. Clair[/autotag]. Buckeye head coach Ryan Day is one of the best QB evaluators in the country and saw enough from the 6-foot, 4-inch and 210 pound in-state signal caller and Ohio State offered.

The windfall of top teams followed as LSU and Alabama followed suit just a few days later. Now, the Buckeyes rival, Michigan, wants to get in on St. Clair’s recruitment, as they now have offered. This battle is getting interesting as he will be on both campuses this week for camps.

At the current moment, it seems like St. Clair is Ohio State’s to lose, as the 26th ranked quarterback and 337th overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite has multiple crystal ball picks to land in Columbus.

Michigan football offers rising 2025 Ohio QB product

He is a gamer for sure!

Michigan has its 2024 quarterback in the fold after getting a commitment from five-star Jadyn Davis.

Now the focus has shifted to see which signal-caller the Wolverines can secure in the 2025 cycle. The big fish is five-star Bryce Underwood of Belleville (Michigan), but the Wolverines have also been in talks with five-star George MacIntyre out of Brentwood (Tennessee). The Wolverines are also working Ohio native Ryan Montgomery. On Wednesday, Michigan offered another Ohio kid, Tavien St. Clair.

St. Clair is a rising four-star quarterback from Bellefontaine (Ohio). The 6-foot-3 gun-slinger took to Twitter to announce his offer from the Wolverines.

St. Clair is a four-star quarterback according to 247Sports, but he is a three-star on the 247Sports composite. He is the 337th-ranked recruit in the 2025 cycle and the 26th-best quarterback.

St. Clair has been visiting camps this spring and summer. He has been picking up big-time offers left and right. Not only has Michigan offered him, but so have Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee.

He started last season as a sophomore with Bellefontaine. He threw for 2,453 yards, 25 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Two crystal ball predictions for St. Clair have him ending up with the Buckeyes.
