Top-ranked 2025 safety sets official visit with Florida Gators

The Florida Gators set up an official visit with the No. 1 safety prospect in the nation, set to take place this Friday.

It seems like talks between the Florida Gators and the No. 1 safety in the nation are starting to spice up as the prospect told reporters at 247Sports that an official visit has been set up for the upcoming weekend.

Four-star recruit [autotag]Trey McNutt[/autotag] is regarded as the top safety in the nation, and Gators defensive backs coach Will Harris has been in contact with the recruit to coerce him to the Sunshine State.

The sweet talk has come to fruition and now an official visit has been for Friday. The Cleveland, Ohio, native has never been to the UF campus and wants to see what it’s like in person.

“I am interested,” McNutt said. “I want to get out to Florida and see what it’s like out there. Really meet the whole staff.”

Top Schools

The top-rated prospect included the Gators in his top eight choices for programs on his trail during the 2025 recruiting cycle. Others on the list spanned from USC, Ohio State, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon and Georgia.

McNutt told 247Sports reporters that Tennessee, Oregon, USC, and Ohio are programs who have maintained regular contact.

“There are some schools that I can tell they want me,” McNutt said. “And then some schools who aren’t showing as much interest or putting in the effort as others. It’s been a journey, and I am enjoying it.”

5-star safety Trey McNutt names Oregon as a top school

The Ducks are in a good spot when it comes to the recruitment of 5-star S Trey McNutt.

With recruiting season starting to pick up, Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are making some big swings. On Monday, Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports announced that the best safety in the class of 2025, Trey McNutt, is down to eight schools, one of which is Oregon.

On3 Sports ranks McNutt as a 5-star recruit and 247 Sports rates him as a 4-star, but both agree that he is the top safety recruit in his class. At 6’0″ and 180 lbs., McNutt has a mix of strength and explosive speed that could make him a great free-roaming safety wherever he ends up.

The other thing that stands out on McNutt’s tape is his ability to read the defense and get downhill at the ball carrier. Whether it’s a run or a pass, McNutt always seems ready to lay a big hit.

McNutt hails from Shaker Heights, Ohio, a suburb outside of Cleveland. The Ohio State Buckeyes are another team in McNutt’s top eight, and as his home school, they’ll probably be the team to beat to land the star safety prospect. Some of his other top schools include the Georgia Bulldogs, the Michigan Wolverines, and the USC Trojans.

Safety will be an important position for Oregon to recruit in the class of 2025 since both of the Ducks’ top guys (Tysheem Johnson and Kobe Savage) will graduate after the 2024 season, leaving holes at the back of the secondary. Oregon has talented safeties already on the roster that can hopefully fill those spots, but adding a guy like McNutt would solidify Oregon’s depth immediately.

Top five class of 2025 football recruits from Ohio #GoBucks

The Ohio State football recruiting class of 2024 was a success and included eight elite players from the state of Ohio including future star cornerback, Aaron Scott from Holland, Ohio. Homegrown talent is a vital part of the lifeblood of the Ohio State football program and I wanted to take time to dive into the next class of Buckeye State stars.

When looking at the class of 2025, the Buckeyes look to be in great shape and have verbal commitments from two of the top five Ohio prospects and are the odds-on favorite for a third. In the day and age of name, image and likeness, following recruiting has become a bit more mundane with players flipping wildly due to the promise of cash.

But with the Buckeyes gaining momentum in that department they should be able to make that situation work for and not against them. Let’s examine the top five prospects for the class of 2025 in the state of Ohio.

Ohio State legacy visits, then is offered a scholarship

His 2002 national championship father must be proud #GoBucks

Ohio 2025 athlete [autotag]Trey McNutt[/autotag] is pretty familiar with the Ohio State program; his father Richard helped the Buckeyes win a national title during the 2002 season.

It’s not always the case that sons inherit their father’s abilities, but for Trey, it is. The 6-foot, 180-pound athlete is going to be a big time recruit and the Buckeyes are getting on him early.

Following a visit to his father’s alma mater, the younger McNutt was offered a scholarship. Although Trey is not yet listed on the 247Sports composite, he soon will be with the offers that he has accumulated after just finishing his sophomore season.

Trey is viewed as an athlete at the moment but could end up playing defense like his father, especially considering which Buckeye coaches he tagged following the offer.

The younger McNutt could join [autotag]Will Smith Jr.[/autotag] as another son of a former 2002 national champion on the current Ohio State team.
