The best prospects in the world are all competing for the top spot in the 2022 NBA draft and it is hard to sort how everyone is stacking up.

The best prospects in the world are all competing for the top spot in the 2022 NBA draft and it is hard to sort how everyone is stacking up.

In order to help us get a better sense of where all of the projected top prospects in the class stand as of right now, we compiled mock drafts from Draft Express (ESPN), Aran Smith (NBADraft.net), Sam Vecenie (The Athletic), Jonathan Wasserman (Bleacher Report), Jeremy Woo (Sports Illustrated), Krysten Peek (Yahoo), Matt Babcock (Basketball News) as well as USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s For The Win.

Please note that these rankings reflect the composite score in order to get a feel for consensus, not our own opinion. Predictions for a first overall pick earned a player 58 points while the second overall pick earned 57 points, the third overall earned 56 points, and so on.

Johnny Davis (Wisconsin), Jeremy Sochan (Baylor), Harrison Ingram (Stanford), EJ Liddell (Ohio State), Wendell Moore (Duke), Blake Wesley (Notre Dame), and Walker Kessler (Auburn) have improved their draft stock the most since our most recent update last month.

The most notable prospects making their debut on our rankings are Tari Eason (LSU), Aminu Mohammed (Georgetown), Dereon Seabron (NC State), Christian Braun (Kansas), Trevion Williams (Purdue) and Orlando Robinson (Fresno State).

Some of the top prospects who were not included in any of these most recent mock drafts include Matthew Cleveland (Florida State), Azuolas Tubelis (Arizona), Max Abmas (Oral Roberts), Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), Alex Fudge (LSU), Buddy Boeheim (Syracuse), Josh Minott (Memphis) and Kadary Richmond (Seton Hall).

Where do ratings systems have LSU after the win at Florida?

Where LSU lands in KenPom and the basketball power index after the Florida game.

On Wednesday night, LSU Basketball went to Gainesville and beat Florida. Florida isn’t ranked, but given this was a road win for LSU against a solid team, it’s still a resume builder.

There are over 300 teams in D-1 college basketball. It’s not the beginning of the season, but there’s still a long way to go. All of this can make it hard to figure out how good a team actually is at this point in time.

Luckily, we have some tools to help such as rating systems. For the unfamiliar, these are systems that take lots of information into account and spit out a ranking. There are countless variations of formulas that can be made.

Today, let’s take a look at where LSU stacks up in these algorithms.

KenPom

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps no rating is as popular as KenPom. Put together by Ken Pomeroy, these ratings primarily rely on points per possession on both ends of the court.

After the Florida win, LSU now sits seventh with the top-rated defense in college basketball. However, the Tigers’ offense sits at just 76th.

According to KenPom, LSU has played the 42nd toughest schedule. That isn’t blistering, but for a 15-1 team, it’s impressive.

The only team in the SEC with a higher KenPom rating than LSU is Auburn, to who LSU lost their conference opener last month.

Next, ESPN’s basketball power index

LSU will take on Flordia in an SEC showdown, here is how to check it out.

The No.12 ranked LSU Tigers will travel to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators. LSU comes in with a record 14-1 and 2-1 in the SEC. Flordia is 9-5 and 0-2 in the SEC.

Tari Eason leads the Tigers in scoring with 16.2 points off the bench. He is also averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. Eason is shooting 53% from the field this season.

Darius Days is also having a good season for the Tigers averaging 14.3 points and leading the team with 7.9 rebounds per game. Xavier Pinson is also averaging double-digits points with 10.3 per game. However, he is unlikely to play in this game.

Colin Castleton does everything for Florida, averaging 15.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. He is shooting 52% from the field. Phlandrous Fleming Jr. complements Castleton with 10.6 points per game.

LSU will continue to bank on tough defense to win against Florida. The Tigers are only giving up 56.4 points per game this season. LSU likes to turn defense to offense, which means easy baskets in the open court. In a strange turn of events, the betting odds actually favor the Gators at home.

LSU Basketball: Tigers upset Tennessee in Baton Rouge

LSU improves to 14-1 on the year.

In what should have been a night where LSU cemented themselves as a SEC contender, the story became Xavier Pinson’s injury as he left the court with a ugly knee injury as LSU was trying to close out the win.

Pinson’s injury aside, it was a good night for LSU where they played some of the best basketball they have played all year.

The final score was 79-67 as LSU moved to 14-1 on the year.

Coming into the game, KenPom had LSU and Tennessee rated as the top two defenses in college basketball. These two teams were almost a mirror image of one another. Two elite defenses with offenses that have struggled at times.

For the first 17 minutes or so, it was a competitive game. LSU went on a run about 10 minutes into the game, but the Volunteers found a way to respond, trading some three’s with LSU near the end of the half.

After that, LSU found a way to take control of the game. LSU had one of their better shooting performances of the year, with a few players finding the net from deep on multiple occasions. LSU also had some huge momentum plays, including a big block from Alex Fudge and scoring off turnovers.

Tennessee found a little bit of life midway through the second half and made it a game at the end, but it wasn’t enough to dig out of 20 point hole, as LSU eventually pulled away again.

Here are some notes coming out of LSU’s win.

– This is LSU’s second consecutive win over a top 15 team in ESPN’s BPI. Earlier in the week, the Tigers defeated 5th ranked Kentucky. Tennessee ranked 11th coming in to the game. After losing the SEC opener to Auburn, it was critical for LSU to tack on a couple resume builders early in the season.

– This was LSU’s third consecutive game against a team in the SEC’s top tier. They’ll now get a brief reprieve as they face Florida and Arkansas, who are both quality opponents but not to the level that LSU has seen in their first three games.

– Tari Eason has arguably been LSU’s best player all year and he had another big game against Tennessee. He scored over 20 points and added a dunk that is sure to be seen on SportsCenter later tonight. Eason had a double-double, bringing in double digit rebounds and was a factor on the defensive end as well.

– Xavier Pinson’s injury cast a cloud over the win. Pinson has been critical to LSU’s success this year as a scorer and a facilitator. It’s not easy to find experienced guards who can run the floor and score, LSU has that in Pinson. A long-term injury would put drastically hurt LSU’s chances at doing something special this season. LSU is already thin at guard after losing Adam Miller to a torn ACL before the season started.

– LSU got a big performance from Brandon Murray. Murray, who missed the conference opener at Auburn, has now had back-to-back double digit games to start his SEC career. Murray was active on defense too, helping LSU create some turnovers.

LSU vs Tennessee: How to watch, listen and stream the SEC basketball matchup

LSU looks to take down another ranked SEC foe.

The LSU Tigers men’s basketball team looks to go two-for-two in upsets this week. After using a 20-3 run to knock off No. 13 Kentucky, focus shifts to the No. 18 Tennessee Volunteers.

LSU comes in at 13-1 with their only loss coming against the Auburn Tigers last week. The Vols are 10-3 and looking to hold off LSU twice in the next couple of weeks. Against the Wildcats, LSU was led by Tari Eason once again. In 30 minutes on the floor in the Kentucky game, the newcomer scored 13 points with six rebounds and three assists. The guard tandem of Brandon Murray and Xavier Pinson were the only other two in double-digits as far as points go.

The Vols are led by their backcourt duo of Kennedy Chandler (13.3/points per game) and Santiago Vescovi (13.5/points per game). Chandler is also leading the team in assists and steals this season. John Fulkerson is the big man down low that the Tigers must limit. He brings 9.5 points, six rebounds, and 1.4 blocks on a nightly basis.

According to ESPN’s matchup indicator, the Tigers’ win probability sits at 68.1%. The Tigers could be 14-1 before they head to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators on Jan. 12.

In a game of runs, LSU beat Kentucky 65-60 to improve to 13-1.

LSU men’s basketball team had a big SEC victory on Tuesday night against Kentucky. The Tigers beat the Wildcats 65-60. LSU came into the game ranked No. 21 and Kentucky No. 13.

The Tigers led 35-30 to start the second half; the Wildcats went on a 17-2 run to take a 47 to 39 lead. Soon after that, LSU went on a 20-3 run to take the lead for good.

Tari Eason led the Tigers in scoring off the bench with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field while adding six rebounds and three assists. Two other Tigers scored in double-digits, Xavier Pinson with 11, and Brandon Murray said ten. Davion Minz led Kentucky in scoring off the bench with 16 points, and Jacob Toppin added 14 points for the Wildcats. Kellan Grady, the only starter in double-digits, scored 13 points. The Tigers did an outstanding job defending, holding Kentucky to 36.2% shooting from the field and 33.3% from three-point land.

This was indeed a game run; both teams had 39 teams rebounds apiece and 15 turnovers apiece. But LSU defense was the most vital factor in this game.

The Tigers have another challenging game on Saturday when they host No.8 ranked Tennessee at home.

LSU vs Kentucky: How to watch, listen and stream the SEC basketball matchup

Prior to the Texas Bowl, we have LSU men’s hoops in action.

Prior to the LSU Tigers taking on Kansas State in the Texas Bowl, we have SEC hoops with Will Wade’s unit taking on Kentucky. It is an all Tigers-Wildcats affair on Tuesday.

The men’s basketball team looks to shake off the loss from the last time they took the hardwood with the loss at Auburn. LSU dropped to No. 21 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll and now faces No. 13 Kentucky at home. A great opportunity to get back on the winning side of things as they gear up for the heart of their SEC schedule. They also have Alabama and Tennessee in the coming weeks.

They will need to shoot much better than 28.6% as they did against Auburn. The Tigers will need big performances from Efton Reid inside, as well as Darius Days and Tari Eason. The big matchup inside is Reid and Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe, who averages 15.8 points and 15.2 rebounds per game.

According to ESPN’s matchup indicator, the Tigers’ win probability sits at 60.9%. Improving to 13-1 will be big for Will Wade and LSU. They set to face No. 18 Tennesse on Saturday at the PMAC.

Prior to the game, LSU will hold a ceremony as they rename the court at the PMAC, “Dale Brown Court.” Dale Brown coached the LSU men’s basketball team from 1972-1997. During that time he won 448 games, four SEC championships, two Final Four appearances, and was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.

Latest bracketology puts the LSU Tigers as a No. 4 seed

Latest bracketology is out.

The LSU Tigers men’s basketball team is preparing for the Auburn Tigers on Dec. 29. The team is sitting at 12-0 and the only undefeated team remaining in the SEC. Auburn has the second-best record.

The end goal would be a trip to the NCAA men’s tournament and the opportunity to bring a championship to the Bayou for the first time ever.

Joe Lunardi released his latest bracketology on Christmas Eve and the Tigers find themselves in the East Region. In the four-team bracket in Milwaukee, LSU would join Xavier, UAB, and South Dakota State. Notable teams in the East bracket would be No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Michigan State, No. 6 Texas, No. 8 Michigan,  and No. 9 Oklahoma.

Under Wade, the Tigers were eliminated in the second round of the 2020-21 tournament. During the 2018-19 tournament Wade’s team made it all the way to the Sweet 16, the furthest he has taken a team.

For the Tigers, the team will need huge contributions from Darius Days, Tari Eason, and Efton Reid among others.
