USA TODAY releases 2020 NFL mock draft

USA TODAY has released their official post-combine 2020 NFL mock draft which features two Georgia football players going in the first round.

With under two months until the 2020 NFL Draft and the combine coming to a finish, USA TODAY released its 2020 NFL mock draft this Tuesday.

The list made by the NFL and USA TODAY’s Nate Davis featured two Georgia Bulldogs going in the first round.

Of the 32 first rounders, Davis had offensive tackle Andrew Thomas going 18th to the Dolphins as well as running back D’Andre Swift, going 26th.  The Dolphins traded for the 18th pick from the Steelers and got the 26th from the Texans.  If this mock draft is accurate, there could potentially be some fresh Bulldog blood invading the state of Florida very soon.

Here are a few of the notable draft selections from USA TODAY:

1. Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow, QB, LSU

2. Washington Redskins – Chase Young, DE, Ohio State

4. New York Giants – Mekhi Becton, OT, Louisville

5. Miami Dolphins – Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama

18. Dolphins (from Pittsburgh Steelers) – Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia

If you buy into the assumption they’ll target Tagovailoa first, step two should be fortifying the protection for him – or whoever is taking the snaps here. Addressing the O-line would also bolster the league’s least effective run game in 2019.

24. New Orleans Saints – Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin

26. Dolphins (from Houston Texans) – D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia

Fitzpatrick led Miami with 243 rushing yards in 2019. Probably enough said, but Swift – widely regarded as the draft’s top back – would be a steal here in any circumstance.

Meet Tae Crowder, Georgia’s hard-hitting LB prospect

Check out Draft Wire’s exclusive interview with Georgia linebacker Tae Crowder

If you’re looking for NFL-ready prospects, the SEC is a good place to start your search.

While there will be plenty of top prospects hailing from the Southeastern Conference littered through the first two days of the 2020 NFL Draft, Georgia linebacker Tae Crowder is one who could still give NFL teams top-level experience in the later rounds.

A battle-tested defender who faced top competition on a daily basis, Crowder recently spoke exclusively with Draft Wire about his career with the Bulldogs, how playing in the SEC prepared him for the next level, and why an NFL team should take a chance on him in this year’s draft.

JM: You leave Georgia for the next level as an experienced player that’s played a role on that Bulldogs defense over the past three seasons. How does that experience serve you well going forward?

TC: There’s a lot of hard work that’s gone into the last couple of years. It was a fun process. I’ll never forget my time at Georgia. They taught me how to be a man. I have to thank my teammates and coaches for always pushing me. That experience can only continue to pay off in the future.

JM: What are three traits a successful linebacker must possess?

TC: The three most important traits in my opinion are discipline, physicality and you have to be coachable. Things will go all right for you if you have those three things in your back pocket.

JM: You’ve had so many great teammates throughout your time at Georgia. If you were going into battle tomorrow and could only bring one with you, who would it be and why?

TC: I would bring defensive back J.R. Reed with me. I know that he’s an incredibly disciplined person. He comes to practice every day ready to work. I admire him.

JM: What do you enjoy more: Coming downhill and playing in the run game, or dropping back into coverage?

TC: I can’t pick between the two, because both of them are my responsibilities as a linebacker. You sign up for both when you sign up to play this position. I prefer both. They’re both fun to me.

JM: You’ve played against some of the best competition college football has to offer throughout your time at Georgia. Who are some of the best players you’ve gone up against?

TC: That’s a tough question. I can’t really single anybody out. We see the best of the best on a weekly basis in the SEC. It’s the best conference in college football. Every team we play against has great players. That’s the situation we find ourselves in every week.

JM: How did practicing against guys like Andrew Thomas and D’Andre Swift make you a better player?

TC: I admire both of those guys. Sometimes you wake up tired and practice can be tough, but I always think of my teammates when I’m not in the right mindset. I think about those guys next to me and how hard they work. I can’t let them down. I let them be my motivation. I try to attack the day just like they do.

JM: Why should an NFL team use one of their draft picks on Tae Crowder?

TC: Tae Crowder is a disciplined guy that’s gonna show up to work every day. I love my teammates. I’m always gonna battle for the guy next to me.

USA TODAY ranks top LB’s ahead of NFL Draft: Is Tae Crowder too low?

According to USA TODAY’s Draft Wire, Georgia’s Tae Crowder ranks just inside the top twenty in a list of NFL Draft prospects.

According to USA TODAY’s Draft Wire, Georgia alum Tae Crowder ranks just inside the top twenty in a list of NFL Draft prospects at linebacker.

It is important to note that these are preliminary rankings based entirely upon collegiate performance. Such rankings are subject to change following pre-draft workouts including the NFL Combine and each school’s respective Pro Days.

That said, dear reader, Tae Crowder is an unsung hero and one of my personal favorite Georgia Bulldogs.

It’s partially due to his play, but chiefly because of his backward football background:

Crowder was a last-minute addition to the Dawgs’ 2015 signing class, receiving his scholarship offer the morning before National Signing Day. He hadn’t taken an official visit. He spent no time in personal meetings with Georgia coaches.

Yet, he committed on the spot.

“It was always my dream to play at the University of Georgia,” Crowder told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2015.

This year, he graduates as one of the very last prospects recruited by Mark Richt, who left his post as top Dawg following the 2015 college football season.

As Harris County’s offensive player of the year during his senior season, Crowder came to Athens as a dual receiver and running back.

He was quickly moved to inside linebacker, and, after redshirting his first year in Athens, spent another year fine-tuning his linebacking skills before spending three years starting, recording 122 tackles, and grabbing two takeaways along the way(s).

Does this one ring a bell? It certainly rung the referee’s bell.

Crowder was not invited to the NFL Combine. Only one former Bulldog defender of the ten total was summoned to Indianapolis.

Given his history of adaptation, I think Tae will do just fine.

Georgia Football Week 12: Expert picks and predictions (UGA vs Auburn)

Georgia football expert picks and predictions for UGA vs Auburn. Stats, score, betting predictions.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a chance to go the their 3rd straight SEC Championship game with a win over Auburn this Saturday.

They have already proven that they control their own destiny, winning three straight SEC East games following an overtime loss to South Carolina.

Many counted Georgia out, saying its season was over with that loss, but the Dawgs kept barking and scrapped their way back into the top 4 and in perfect position to make a trip to the SEC Championship, likely against LSU.

But first, Georgia’s focus is on Auburn. A win, and the Dawgs not only secure a trip back to Atlanta, but can start thinking College Football Playoff – though Kirby Smart would never admit that.

This Saturday in Auburn is going to be a bloodbath, as these are two of the most physically dominant teams in college football.

UGA Wire compiled a list of staff predictions, including the game score, spread, over/under, stat lines and more to get you ready for the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.
