Former Georgia LB Tae Crowder to sign with Chargers

Tae Crowder is headed to the LA Chargers…

The Los Angeles Chargers are signing former Georgia Bulldog Tae Crowder, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The inside linebacker was selected by the New York Giants with the final pick (Mr. Irelevent) of the 2020 NFL draft and spent the better part of three seasons in New York before being waived in December.

Later that month Crowder was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers and served on their practice squad until being released in May.

Over his three NFL seasons, Crowder has 232 tackles, two sacks, eight pass deflections, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.

In correspondence, Los Angeles waived offensive tackle Andrew Trainer with an injury designation.

Crowder was the No. 255 overall pick by the Giants in 2020, making him “Mr. Irrelevant.” He appeared in 41 games, 31 being starts, before being waived in December of 2022. Crowder then joined the Steelers’ practice squad but did not appear in any games.

Through three seasons, Crowder has 232 tackles, nine for loss, eight passes defended, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions.

Before joining the NFL ranks, Crowder was a key player for the Georgia Bulldogs, finishing 122 career tackles, five pass breakups and two interceptions.

7 biggest surprises of Giants’ 2022 season

The New York Giants were full of surprises in 2022 — some good and some bad — so we look back at the seven biggest.

The New York Giants season is over and now comes the time for us to unpack what the heck we witnessed this year.

There were a few disappointments this year and quite a number of surprises.

Here’s a look at seven of those surprises.

Giants’ 7 most disappointing players of 2022

The New York Giants provided many reasons for optimism in 2022 but these seven players most certainly disappointed.

The New York Giants had a banner season under the first-year combo of general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, going 10-8-1 overall and qualifying for the postseason for the first time since 2016.

That was satisfying for many Giant fans but the season wasn’t without its disappointments. Here are seven disappointing players from the 2022 season.

Steelers sign Tae Crowder off Giants’ practice squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed LB Tae Crowder to their active roster from the New York Giants’ practice squad.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed linebacker Tae Crowder off of the New York Giants’ practice squad. He will replace Marcus Allen, who recently landed on IR due to a biceps injury.

Crowder had re-signed to the Giants’ practice squad shortly after being waived last week. That came on the heels of the linebacker tweeting, “free me” and later apologizing to the team.

“I think that it was one of those things where it just didn’t work out with the expectation of execution and things just kept building up and building up. And you want to give a guy time to correct it, and we just didn’t have the time for him to correct it,” defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said of Crowder.

In 41 career games (31 starts) for the Giants, Crowder recorded 232 tackles (124 solo, nine for a loss), six QB hits, 2.0 sacks, eight passes defensed, and two interceptions.

Giants signing Landon Collins to 53-man roster

The New York Giants are signing safety/linebacker Landon Collins from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.

After an impressive Week 15 performance against the Washington Commanders, the New York Giants are signing safety Landon Collins from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.

The move comes after linebacker Tae Crowder was waived and later re-signed to the reserve unit.

Although Collins took just 27 defensive snaps last Sunday night, he recorded three tackles. Two of those were key third-down stops.

“I think so,” defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said when asked if Collins can take on a larger role. “I think he had one misread out there, which is kind of expected a little bit because it’s been so long since he’s played. But I thought he did a nice job, and excited to see where he goes moving forward.”

Martindale added that he’s “very comfortable” with Collins playing inside linebacker.

The Giants have struggled against the run for much of the season with their inside backers being the primary culprits. Collins, who is stout against the run and a solid tackler, will most certainly help in that area.

Collins will join fellow safety/linebacker Tony Jefferson and rookie Micah McFadden at the position in Week 16 and likely beyond.

Report: Giants to re-sign LB Tae Crowder to practice squad

The New York Giants are expected to re-sign LB Tae Crowder, who was waived on Tuesday, to their practice squad.

The New York Giants waived linebacker Tae Crowder on Tuesday, two weeks after he tweeted, “free me.” He later apologized to his teammates and coaches for the tweet.

“I think that it was one of those things where it just didn’t work out with the expectation of execution and things just kept building up and building up. And you want to give a guy time to correct it, and we just didn’t have the time for him to correct it,” defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said of Crowder.

Crowder cleared waivers without a claim on Wednesday, making him an unrestricted free agent. And it didn’t take him long to find a home — a familiar one at that.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that Crowder will re-sign with the Giants, joining their practice squad.

It is expected that the Giants will sign safety Landon Collins from the reserve unit to their active roster, effectively swapping the two. Collins had paired with fellow safety Tony Jefferson to handle inside linebacker duties against the Washington Commanders in Week 15.

It’s a bit of a fall for the former Mr. Irrelevant, but perhaps some time on the practice squad will allow for the opportunity to correct his execution issues.

Giants waive Tae Crowder two weeks after ‘free me’ tweet

Two weeks after he tweeted “free me,” the New York Giants have waived linebacker Tae Crowder, the former Mr. Irrelevant.

Tae Crowder is officially a free man.

Two weeks after Crowder, who was upset with his playing time, tweeted, ‘free me,” the New York Giants have obliged.

The Giants announced on Tuesday that Crowder has been waived. The former Mr. Irrelevant was a healthy scratch in Week 15 against the Washington Commanders, replaced by a duo of Tony Jefferson and Landon Collins.

In 41 career games (31 starts) for the Giants, Crowder recorded 232 tackles (124 solo, nine for a loss), six QB hits, 2.0 sacks, eight passes defensed, and two interceptions.

The Giants’ interior linebackers have not played especially well this season, including Jaylon Smith and rookie Micah McFadden, which has opened the door for both Jefferson and Collins.

The safeties played well in that role on Sunday and expectations are that Collins will be signed from the practice squad to the active roster.

Crowder, meanwhile, is subject to the waiver system. If he clears, he will become an unrestricted free agent who is able to sign with any team.

Giants-Eagles Week 14: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants lost their Week 14 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Here are the snap counts on offense, defense and special teams.

The New York Giants took one on the chin Sunday afternoon. They were completely dismantled by the Philadelphia Eagles, 48-22, in a game that wasn’t even that close.

The wheels have completely come off in East Rutherford and a 6-1 start has turned into a 7-5-1 mess that resembles much of what Dave Gettleman and Joe Judge left behind.

There’s a lot to break down and a lot to go over but before we look ahead, let’s look back. Here are the snap counts that contributed to the Giants’ latest loss.

Offensive snaps: 66
Defensive snaps: 85
Special teams snaps: 34

Wide receiver Kenny Golladay was limited to just 11 offensive snaps on Sunday and didn’t draw a single target. It’s actually shocking to find out he was even on the field because it wasn’t noticeable throughout the game.

The remaining snap counts were also skewed because the Giants eventually pulled their starters from the game. Most of them, anyway. Only Nick Gates and Jon Feliciano took 100% of all snaps on either side of the ball.

Cornerback Rodarius Williams was a healthy scratch and linebacker Tae Crowder only saw 17 snaps after coming in for the injured Micah McFadden.

Tae Crowder apologizes to Giants teammates, coaches for ‘free me’ tweet

New York Giants LB Tae Crowder apologized to his coaches and teammates after sending a “free me” tweet following a Week 13 tie.

Shortly after the New York Giants and Washington Commanders played to a tie in Week 13, linebacker Tae Crowder hit Twitter with a curious tweet.

“Free me,” he wrote.

It stemmed from apparent frustration over his lacking role. The former starting inside linebacker played zero defensive snaps in the tie and has seen his role decrease significantly in recent weeks.

“I’m more of a TikTok guy,” defensive coordinator Wink Martindale said when asked about Crowder’s tweet. “TikTok has good golf tips on there, scare cam’s one of my favorite things to see, and a lot of comedians.

“It was taken care of internally, and like I said I’m not on Twitter, so I didn’t really see it.”

After the tweet created a stir, Crowder apologized to his coaches and teammates following a private meeting with head coach Brian Daboll.

“I really wasn’t thinking much of it,” Crowder told the New York Post. “I’ve seen a lot of fans talking about a release or whatever, but I’m all for my team. I just want to do anything I can to help the team win.

“I apologized to all my teammates just because I never want to cause anything to the program. I never want to be that guy to be a distraction. All my teammates know I’m not that type of guy.”

Although Crowder offered an apology, he acknowledged his frustration with his diminished role.

“I’m a guy who loves to compete and I just haven’t been on the field like I used to be,” he added. “Once you can’t go out and help your team — whether you win or lose — it’s frustrating.”

Cornerback Rodarius Williams also expressed frustration with his role in Week 13 but it’s unclear if he also offered up an apology over his tweets.
