QB Matthew Stafford facing his former NFL team in the playoffs

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will make his return to Detroit in the NFL playoffs

Former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford will make his return to Detroit in the NFL playoffs this upcoming Sunday. Stafford will travel to Detroit on the opposing team for the first time since the Lions traded him back in 2021.

Stafford and the Rams clinched the sixth seed in the NFC after their win last week, but didn’t know who they were going to play heading into Week 18. With a Cowboys win, the Lions ended up as the third seed and will host the Rams in their first home playoff game since 1994.

It’ll be an emotional game for Stafford as he spent 12 seasons with the Lions after being their first overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He lead them to the playoffs for the first time since 1999, but was unable to win a postseason game with Detroit. Stafford is the Lions’ all-time leading passer in numerous stats and is the best signal caller in Detroit history.

Matthew Stafford went on to win a Super Bowl with the Rams before struggling in 2022. The former Bulldogs quarterback threw for 3,965 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. After numerous offseason surgeries, many people weren’t sure if Stafford would bounce back from a subpar season. Stafford was selected for a Pro Bowl and returns to the playoffs after putting together an impressive 2023 regular season.

Stafford’s wife, Kelly, recently shared a video tribute that Stafford made for Detroit when he originally left in 2021.

The game is kicking off on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET on NBC.

How Georgia Bulldog NFL rookies performed in 2022

What Georgia Bulldog rookies made the biggest impact in the NFL during the 2022 season?

The Georgia Bulldogs dominated the 2022 NFL draft with a record-breaking 15 selections. Most of the 15 Georgia players draft had a large role for their respective NFL teams.

However, some former Georgia standouts stayed on the practice squad and a couple of other players primarily saw special teams snaps in their first year in the league. The NFL is a big adjustment from college for most players. The game is faster and there’s stout competition to get on the field.

Former Georgia Bulldogs like George Pickens, Quay Walker, Jake Camarda, and Jamaree Salyer were all big contributors as rookies.

Former UGA star Jake Camarda makes NFL special teams play of the year

Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Jake Camarda may have saved the Bucs’ season after punting the ball following a bad snap

Tampa Bay Buccaneers punter Jake Camarda may have saved the Bucs’ season on a play that was nullified by a penalty. Camarda, who stunned the NFL world with he 40-yard dash a the NFL combine, scrambled to get off a punt after he received an awful snap late in the fourth quarter against the Carolina Panthers.

Camarda, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft, showed off his speed as he eluded Panthers players to nail a punt inside Carolina’s five.

However, the punt was nullified with a penalty on the Bucs. If Camarda would’ve just fallen on the ball, then the Panthers would’ve been set up with excellent field position and a much better chance to defeat the Bucs.

We don’t think any other punter in the NFL would’ve been able to get off a kick in this tough situation. Here’s a look at Camarda’s heroics:

The New York Giants have placed former Georgia football standout Azeez Ojulari on injured reserve. Ojulari, a second-year player, has seem limited action in 2022. The former second-round pick has played in only two games this season.

Now, Azeez Ojulari will miss at least the next four games for the Giants. New York is off to an excellent 5-1 start, but will miss Ojulari, who is one of the Giants’ top pass rushers.

Ojulari is coming off a promising rookie season where he played in 17 games, recorded 8.0 sacks, and finished with 49 total tackles.

There was concern over Georgia linebacker Azeez Ojulari’s durability entering the 2021 NFL draft. Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Azeez Ojulari currently has a calf injury. He was reportedly close to returning, but suffered an unfortunate setback. Hopefully Ojulari can suit up for the Giants later in the season. He’d provide a big boost to New York’s pass rush if he can return.

Ojulari has not played since Week 4. ESPN’s Field Yates reported the news of Ojulari being placed on injured reserve.

Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine undergoes leg surgery following scary injury

Minnesota Vikings safety Lewis Cine suffered a serious leg injury against the New Orleans Saints in Week 4. Cine and the Vikings were playing against the Saints in London, England.

Cine, a rookie from the University of Georgia, was primarily playing special teams for the Vikings to begin the 2022 NFL season. Minnesota selected Cine with a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

We will not share a video of Cine’s injury due to the graphic nature of the injury. Cine is expected to be out for the remainder of the season.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell issued the following statement on Cine following the rookie’s scary leg injury.

Very tough moment for our team and obviously for a guy who, since Day 1, has been a personal favorite of mine. And done everything we’d asked, and was continuing to progress in his rookie year, really having a dynamic role for us on [special] teams.

We hope that Cine can make a full recovery and return to football. The Minnesota Vikings defeated the New Orleans Saints, 28-25.

Former Georgia Bulldog OL wins Chargers’ game ball

Former Georgia Bulldog Jamaree Salyer stepped up in his first career start.

Los Angeles Chargers left tackle Jamaree Salyer received a game ball from head coach Brandon Staley for his Week 4 performance against the Houston Texans. Los Angeles won, 34-24, on the road.

Jamaree Salyer made his first career NFL start and helped the Chargers allow only one sack against the Texans. Additionally, Los Angeles totaled 419 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Salyer, a rookie out of the University of Georgia, was selected in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft.

Salyer started at left tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs throughout the 2020 and 2021 college football seasons. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound offensive lineman allowed only two hurries and no sacks during his final season with Georgia.

Salyer primarily practiced at offensive guard for the Chargers, but that changed after star left tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a torn biceps in Week 3 against the Jaguars. Slater is expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 NFL season.

The rookie stepped up for Los Angeles on the road, where it is tougher for offensive linemen to play well. The Chargers are 2-2.

The Houston Texans entered the contest already having 10 sacks this year. The Chargers had to protect banged up quarterback Justin Herbert, who is dealing with a ribs injury. Salyer is a big reason the Chargers were able to win.
