Ravens climb to No. 1 in NFL in points per game after win over Bucs

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in style Monday night and climbed to No. 1 in the NFL in total points per game.

Not only did the Baltimore Ravens defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in style on Monday, but they also surged to the top of the NFL in total points per game.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson has been superhuman lately and needed just 22 pass attempts, and nine carries to total five touchdowns Monday night.

Jackson’s entourage includes tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, running backs Derrick Henry and Justice Hill, and lastly, wide receivers Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.

Any and every defensive tactic thrown at the Ravens can be easily countered due to the plethora of options they have in personnel.

When opponents crowd the box, Jackson can target Bateman and Flowers on deep routes like we saw Monday. Yet, when defenses show two-high safeties, Jackson can target pass catchers at the intermediate and short level or target underneath voids with HB screen plays.

Ultimately, the team’s plush personnel and offensive coordinator Todd Monken’s mastermind are currently fueling its success on offense. The team has looked pretty much unstoppable on offense through six weeks.

The Rashod Bateman “breakout” column you’ve been waiting for

If there is one thing the world has no shortage of, it’s “Is This the Year Rashod Bateman Breaks Out?” articles.

If there is one thing the world has no shortage of, it’s “Is This the Year Rashod Bateman Breaks Out?” articles. The writer of this post has produced at least three of these, as have countless other Baltimore Ravens writers, this preseason alone.

It’s easy to make fun of how much this specific story angle has been covered, but now, it’s looking like it’s finally happening. He had four receptions for a career-high 121 yards, good for 30.1 yards per reception (also a career-high) in the 41-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.

The 121 yards are actually 8.4% of his total career receiving yards (1,440 across 41 games) entering the night.

Bateman had one touchdown, a 49-yard reception that reportedly traveled 58.3 yards in the air. He also had a 59-yarder, which is good for Lamar Jackson’s longest completion of the season thus far.

This breakout performance followed last week’s outing, in which he had what was then a season-high 71 yards receiving.

Through seven weeks, he already has a new career high in touchdown receptions in a single season, with three.

This former Minnesota Golden Gopher is getting it done right now because he’s embodying the “Row the Boat” philosophy that defines the culture of his collegiate program.

His college coach, P.J. Fleck, described Row the Boat as “a never-give-up mantrawhen he explained the full meaning of the phrase at 2017 Big Ten Media Day.

That’s Bateman, who persevered despite all the injuries piling up. Bateman has yet to achieve a season with the statistical production expected of a first-round draft selection and has caught plenty of criticism.

However, right now, he’s doing the one thing that can silence the critics for good—putting up solid numbers.

Zay Flowers is faster than Speedy Gonzales, Ravens improve to 4-2

Whether opponents use zone or man coverage versus Baltimore Ravens WR Zay Flowers, they still can’t account for his impeccable quickness.

Whether opponents use zone or man coverage versus Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers, they still can’t account for his impeccable quickness.

Nine catches for 142 receiving yards means Flowers finished week six with a whopping 14.7 yards per catch average versus the Washington Commanders.

With Ravens running back Derrick Henry and quarterback Lamar Jackson demanding attention in the trenches, Flowers, and teammates Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman have been able to run loose in voids at the intermediate and deep level of the pass defense.

As long as offensive coordinator Todd Monken continues to run a balanced attack, Flowers and others will get their share of targets in the passing game.

Yesterday, Monken totaled 28 first downs, winning the time of possession 36.08 to 23:52. Flowers has been an essential possession receiver, moving the chains when needed, and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks another big play for a touchdown.

Ravens WR Rashod Bateman praises Zay Flowers for his breakout performance

Ravens WR Rashod Bateman praises Zay Flowers after having his own career high in yards against the Washington Commanders

Lamar Jackson spread the football around on Sunday in the passing game, having three different receivers log 60+ yards in the afternoon. Rashod Bateman and Jackson have seen their chemistry grow this season, and on Sunday, the former Golden Gophers wide receiver had one of his best days as a pro.

Bateman logged four catches for 71 yards (17.8 avg) on four targets. The 71 yards were the most for Bateman since Week 2 of the 2022 season. Rather than focus on his accomplishment, Batenan had nothing but praise for Zay Flowers and his historic day.

Flowers had nine catches for 132 yards (14.7 avg) and hauled in all nine of his targets. Lamar Jackson is developing a rapport with his key pass catchers.

John Harbaugh expresses confidence in Ravens’ WRs amid Davante Adams trade rumors

John Harbaugh expresses confidence in Ravens’ wide receivers amid Davante Adams trade rumors

Whenever a notable wide receiver becomes available in free agency or via trade, fans of the Baltimore Ravens inevitably become fascinated with the idea of pairing them with MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. Davante Adams is the latest example after the six-time Pro Bowler requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked how he felt about the team’s current group of wide receivers amid speculation that Baltimore could be a team to pursue Adams.

“You know how we feel about our guys,” Harbaugh said. “I really can’t comment on anybody else’s players. We talked about Davante Adams a couple of weeks ago [when we played the Raiders], and I didn’t want to talk anything about him after the game – we had seen enough at that point. We love our guys.”

Adams was instrumental in the Raiders Week 2 upset win over the Ravens as he caught nine passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. The superstar receiver would undoubtedly help take Baltimore’s already explosive offensive to another level, but considering his current salary, the needed draft capital to give up, and the fact that the Ravens are a run-heavy team, the move for the soon-to-be 32-year-old receiver seems unlikely to occur for Baltimore.

The Ravens appear content to roll with Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Nelson Agholor as the team’s top trio of wide receivers, with tight ends Isaiah Likely, Mark Andrews, and Charlie Kolar also featuring heavily in the passing attack.

Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman makes two spectacular catches on scoring drive vs. Bengals

Lamar Jackson and Rashod Bateman have struggled to develop efficient gameday chemistry over the past few years. Still, the MVP quarterback and the wide receiver have been on the same page over the past few weeks.
The Ravens are up 14-9 over the Bengals late in the second quarter, and Bateman is a massive reason for this.  The former Minnesota Golden Gophers star made two dynamic catches, including a 16-yard touchdown grab to give Baltimore a lead.

Bateman made two massive grabs on the 7-play, 51-yard drive that took 2:59 of game action.

Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman had a funny social media response to his expectations in 2024

The Baltimore Ravens are expected to have a big year in 2024. They are coming from a tough loss in the AFC Championship game to the Kansas City Chiefs, who they will play in Week 1 of the season.

Wide receiver Rashod Bateman is a big X-factor for the Ravens this year. A fan posted some number predictions to the wide receiver, which garnered a response about how world peace would be achieved if those stats were reached. Bateman responded to the comment, saying that he understands that world peace would happen if he could achieve what the post was asking.

Bateman is taking over full WR2 responsibilities this season behind Zay Flowers. He will need a big year, especially if the Ravens’ offense is to reach their full potential.
