Alvin Kamara wins Florida sport fishing tournament

Alvin Kamara took some time off between Saints offseason workouts to get out on the water and reel in a tournament-winning sailfish:

Props to Alvin Kamara for making the most of his offseason. The New Orleans Saints running back headlined “The Catch” sport fishing tournament in Florida last week, teaming up with Miami Dolphins star Raheem Mostert to win the whole thing. They competed with other NFL players including Kamara’s former Saints teammates Trey Hendrickson and Jameis Winston.

One of the highlights of the fishing rodeo came when Kamara and two of his teammates hooked three sailfish at the same time. Kamara described it as “Chaos. Organized chaos … It was great. Lot of moving parts, but I think we did it effortlessly. Raheem was on there. He was fighting for his life. I was fighting for my life for a second. I got mine in first. We had to give Raheem some moral support.”

It was a fun time for all. With offseason training sessions ramping up as the summer approaches, it’s good to see veterans like Kamara making time to enjoy themselves before locking in for months of hard work.

B/R found the perfect destination for former Saints starter in free agency

Andrus Peat remains unsigned in free agency, but Bleacher Report believes he’d be a perfect fit for this AFC Super Bowl contender:

There are still plenty of New Orleans Saints free agents searching for their new team, and the most notable of them might be Andrus Peat. New Orleans declined to re-sign Peat and in turn suffered a $13 million dead cap hit. Saints head coach Dennis Allen has left the door open to Peat returning to New Orleans this offseason, but the team signed Oli Udoh to fill a similar role on the depth chart.

So where could Peat end up? Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay thinks the former Saint would be a perfect fit with the Cincinnati Bengals, writing:

The Cincinnati Bengals would be a great fit for Peat, especially after they let incumbent tackle Jonah Williams walk in free agency and brought in Trent Brown as his replacement on the right side of the line. Brown has a history of inconsistent play and could struggle to live up to the $4.8 million deal he inked this offseason.

The great part of Peat’s skill set is he has the versatility to play guard or tackle. Peat has been viewed as a tackle in the offseason by publications ignoring his more expansive history as a guard. Signing right tackle Trent Brown doesn’t take Peat off the table at all. He’ll be inexpensive and can compete at both tackle or guard on the left side.

The offseason has been quiet for Peat. The versatile offensive lineman has visited with the Titans, but nothing came from it. Pairing him with the Bengals makes a lot of sense. Their Super Bowl window remains open, and protecting Joe Burrow will be imperative to ensuring it doesn’t close. Peat will help fortify their protection. He’d also be joining some familiar faces in Cincinnati like former Saints draft picks Trey Hendrickson, Sheldon Rankins, and Vonn Bell.

Geno Stone should thrive playing under Bengals’ DC Lou Anarumo

Former Ravens safety Geno Stone may be in for another historic season with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Former Ravens safety Geno Stone may be in for another historic season with the Cincinnati Bengals. Expect defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo to polish Stone and build a scheme that favors his ball-hawking tendencies.

Last season, the Bengals were inhibited by two key shortcomings. First, they lost all-pro safety Jesse Bates III to the Atlanta Falcons, and then their starting quarterback Joe Burrow went down in the middle of the season with a hand injury. Still, the Bengals finished the season with a 9-8 record and defensive end Trey Henderson ranked No. 2 in the NFL in total sacks.

Anarumo understands that Stone likes to play aggressively, and so does he. The Bengals had 26 takeaways last season, ranking No. 7 in the NFL.  The Bengals are looking to build a secondary behind defensive tackle B.J Hill and Hendrickson. With Stone and the return of safety Vance Bell, defensive back Mike Hilton may see more opportunities to blitz as defensive backs Cam Taylor Britt and Dax Hill work outside.

The Bengals were just a few victories away from the Super Bowl in 2022 and 2023. With Stone, they want to build on the identity that helped turn their franchise around. As an AFC North powerhouse, the Ravens need to be aware of their rivals’ moves to dethrone them in 2024.

Only one Bengal makes PFF top 101 players of 2023 list

Guess which Bengals star made it?

The 2023 season didn’t go how the Cincinnati Bengals would have hoped, to put it lightly. While many teams would have been very pleased with the 9-8 finished they ended at, missing the playoffs and Joe Burrow being injured was the worst-case scenario for them.

Now that the season is well over, PFF ranked the top 101 players from the season overall, and the Bengals were not well-represented.

Trey Hendrickson was the only Cincinnati player to make the list and he was 43rd. Here’s what Sam Monson had to say about him:

Nobody sacked the quarterback more than Hendrickson, who actually tied T.J. Watt for the most plays with a sack — the only difference being how the NFL apportions half-sacks in their official numbers.

Hendrickson did have the best season of his career in his third year with the team, totaling 17.5 sacks and 25 quarterback hits, making his third straight Pro Bowl.

It certainly could be argued that Hendrickson should be higher on this list than 43, and that more Bengals should be represented, but now the team is just looking to have a better season in 2024.

If Burrow is able to stay healthy, one would have to think that he and maybe a few other players on the Bengals offense would have made it onto this list.

Joseph Ossai getting help from Trey Hendrickson over offseason

Joseph Ossai is getting help from one of the best in the business.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Joseph Ossai is looking to make some improvements to his game this offseason going into his third year in the league, and he couldn’t be getting help from many better places than he is.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com wrote that Trey Hendrickson has taken Ossai under his wing in the past year, and told him to stay in Cincinnati with the Bengals’ strength staff instead of going home to Texas during the offseason.

“This past year, he just helped me develop, helped me with my pass rush mentality, and then also just out of football,” Ossai said. “We would go to a church ministry at night once a week. Outside of football, we both found something that we could kind of connect with and just him mentoring me.”

Ossai has dealt with multiple injuries in his two years with the Bengals, but he has played through a lot, still getting to 30 combined games in those seasons.

He said that Hendrickson is helping to improve his mental game so that he’s able to move on from plays that he didn’t make in the past, or he got flagged on, like the late hit that was called in the AFC Championship the Bengals ultimately lost.

Whether Ossai will make the improvements he’s setting out to is yet to be seen, but it definitely can’t hurt when it’s Hendrickson who’s helping him work.

Former star DE J.J. Watt calls Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson underrated

Huge praise for Trey Hendrickson from J.J. Watt.

Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson had a very good season, and he was noticed by former NFL defensive end J.J. Watt, who still talks to his former Houston Texans teammate and current Bengal DJ Reader.

“I talk to him about all those guys all the time,” J.J. Watt said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “(Sam) Hubbard and Trey. They’ve got a really good squad down there.”

Hendrickson finished just behind Watt’s younger brother, T.J. Watt in sacks this season, getting 17.5 while Watt had 19 for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hobson said Watt smiled as he talked about Hendrickson.

“Doesn’t always wear gloves, right? Goes barehanded. Among football guys, that’s like, ‘OK. Doesn’t wear gloves. That’s a little out there.'”

“But you respect it because it means you play the game a certain way and I think he embodies that … He’s a great player. An underrated player. He doesn’t get as much credit as he probably should, but he had a great year … He’s got some great moves and he’s also got power.”

Praise from someone of J.J. Watt’s caliber is nothing to scoff at, so for Hendrickson to be recognized by him is a high compliment.

Look: Ja’Marr Chase, Trey Hendrickson rep Bengals at Pro Bowl

A look at all things Ja’Marr Chase and Trey Hendrickson at the Pro Bowl.

The Cincinnati Bengals had two representatives this week at the Pro Bowl Games.

Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and defensive end Trey Hendrickson were again the guys present for the Bengals, this time in an NFC win.

It was Chase who put on the biggest show, scoring multiple touchdowns, linking up with Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud. At one point, he even channeled Chad Johnson by hopping up on the media platform and taking control of a broadcast camera.

Here’s a look at some of the top highlights and media for both players, plus a reaction here and there to the action.

Trey Hendrickson named Bengals MVP by local PFWA chapter

A big honor for Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson is the team’s MVP, selected by the Cincinnati chapter of the Pro Football Writer’s Association.

Hendrickson was the obvious choice after appearing in all 17 games and posting a career-high 17.5 sacks.

“Trey Hendrickson proved his immense value to the Bengals defense as one of the most reliable and dominant pass rushers in the NFL,” said chapter vice president Mike Petraglia. “He recorded a career-high in sacks despite often being the target of double teams and scheming to account for his explosiveness off the edge.”

That 17.5-sack mark was second in the NFL behind only T.J. Watt in Pittsburgh.

While it wasn’t good enough to make the All-Pro team, Hendrickson stood out as one of the lone, consistent bright spots playing at an elite level in Cincinnati all season.

Trey Hendrickson, Bengals blanked from AP All-Pro team

No All-Pro nod for Trey Hendrickson.

No Cincinnati Bengals appear on the Associated Press All-Pro team, continuing a streak dating back to 2015.

Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson was the major contender for the honor this year as he nearly led the league in sacks with 17.5, falling just behind Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt’s 19 sacks.

Watt and Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett made it as first-team edge rushers, while Micah Parsons and Maxx Crosby made the second team.

Unfortunately for Hendrickson, he falls victim to a logjam when it comes to pass-rushers who probably should have made the list.

The Bengals haven’t had a first-team All-Pro member since Geno Atkins and Andrew Whitworth made it in 2015.

Trey Hendrickson tied for league lead in sacks with one week left

Trey Hendrickson is close to making some Bengals history.

The Cincinnati Bengals don’t have much to play for in Week 18 since they have officially been eliminated from the playoffs after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs last week, but there’s one player who could etch himself into Bengals history.

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson has the chance to lead the league in sacks going into the final week since he is tied with Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt with 17.

If Hendrickson finishes the season with the lead, he will be the first Bengals player to lead the league in sacks since it became an official stat in 1982.

His 17 is already a career-high for him, over his first year in Cincinnati when he had 14, but with the Browns likely sitting starters, and their offensive line already having injury issues, Hendrickson could have a good chance to add to that number.

He has a total of 41 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, three pass deflections and three forced fumbles, putting together what has been the best year of his career.
