Ravens HC John Harbaugh discusses OLB Malik Hamm’s potential impact

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh talked about the potential of Malik Hamm amidst a possible return

The Baltimore Ravens have been known for finding undrafted free-agent gems after putting together a rookie class. Plenty of names come to mind when thinking of players who got overlooked that Baltimore has taken chances on in the past.

One player that the Ravens have high hopes for is outside linebacker Malik Hamm, who signed with Baltimore following the 2023 NFL draft. He flashed during the 2023 preseason but went on injured reserve to start the year. Hamm’s 21-day practice window has been opened, and head coach John Harbaugh said the rookie can help in multiple ways.

“I think [Malik Hamm] definitely is potentially an option. It’s [his] health and how ready he is. I think he’ll be ready. He moves well and could help us both on defense and special teams if he gets a chance. Then, with where the roster is, you have to weigh those two things.”

Hamm had 32 sacks at Lafayette and signed with the Ravens after going undrafted this year. He had four tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in the preseason.

With one week of the preseason remaining, the Ravens currently have 14 undrafted free agents on the roster, with three or four who’ve made highlight plays, and have a solid chance to make the 53-man roster.

After two joint practices earlier last week, the Ravens and Commanders will close out the second week of the NFL preseason with an intriguing matchup at FedEx Field.

Monday night’s contest could be a physical, hard-hitting affair after the practice sessions were marred by Washington rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes and Baltimore wide receiver Tylan Wallace exchanging punches.

With kickoff now five hours away, we’re looking at which undrafted free agents have the best shot at making the 53-man roster.
