NFL trade deadline: 8 D-linemen the Bills could target

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman the team could target at the 2020 NFL Draft.

The 2020 NFL trade deadline is right around the corner. It’s slated for Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Sitting at 5-2 overall and in control of their own destiny at this point, could the Buffalo Bills add to their arsenal to solidify themselves as a legitimate contender in the AFC? Despite their record, the Bills do certainly have a hole or two they could stand to fill in their roster.

In this part of Bills Wire’s trade deadline coverage, we’ll take a look at a couple of defensive linemen the Bills could target as Tuesday inches closer and closer:

Eagles Final Injury Report: 7 players ruled out for game vs. the Giants

Philadelphia Eagles rule out 7 players for a game vs. the Giants

The Philadelphia Eagles released their final injury designation in advance of Thursday’s game against the New York Giants and seven players were ruled out.

Alshon Jeffery appeared on the list with a calf and foot injury, further explaining why he’s yet to make his 2020 debut, while Jack Driscoll and Zach Ertz are both out with ankle injuries.

Lane Johnson will return to right tackle for the Eagles with Bret Toth backing him up.

With Malik Jackson out, T.Y. McGill could get the call up at defensive tackle after being protected on Tuesday.

Doug Pederson confirms Alshon Jeffery will be among 4 Eagles ruled out for game vs. the Giants

Doug Pederson confirms Alshon Jeffery will be among 4 Eagles ruled out for the game vs. the Giants

Alshon Jeffery watch continues and on Wednesday, Doug Pederson confirmed that the Eagles star wide receiver will miss his seventh straight game of the 2020 season with a foot injury.

“Well, obviously, you know Alshon and DeSean have been practicing with us — and DeSean last week — and so, obviously [we’r] optimistic. But it’s a short week, so you don’t know how guys are going to respond physically. We’ll see where they’re at because with short weeks we don’t get actual live reps in practice, so we keep everything at more of the traditional walk-through. And so, that’s kind of where we’re at. Lane Johnson is in that same boat with those two guys.”

Jeffery, working back from a Lisfranc injury, practiced in a limited capacity for a third straight week but was not deemed ready to return, causing some confusion and questioning of the Eagles in regards to why the receiver wasn’t placed on the PUP list prior to the start of the season, freeing up a roster spot.

Eagles estimated injury report: Malik Jackson among 6 to sit out; Alshon Jeffery listed as limited

Malik Jackson among 6 to sit out; Alshon Jeffery among for listed as limited

The Philadelphia Eagles released their estimated injury report for Thursday night’s matchup with the New York Giants and 11 players landed on the list.

DNP: Driscoll (ankle), Ertz (ankle), M Jackson (quadricep), Johnson (ankle), Sanders (knee), Wallace (shoulder).

LIMITED: Epps (rib), D Jackson (hamstring), Jeffery (foot), Maddox (ankle), Riley (rib).

Ertz and Sanders will both likely miss a few weeks, while Lane Johnson could be held out another week as well.

Tennessee in top 6 for elite 2021 defensive tackle

The Vols have a chance to sign this elite prospect from the northeast.

Tennessee is still in the conversation to land Tywone Malone, a 2021 defensive tackle prospect from Oradell, New Jersey.

Malone is not only a blue-chip interior defensive lineman, but also a high-level baseball player.

The Vols are included with USC, Rutgers, Ole Miss, Florida State and Texas A&M in Malone’s final decision.

A 6-foot-3.5, 300-pound lineman, Malone is rated a 4-star prospect, and the No. 5 defensive tackle in his class per the 247Sports Composite. A strong, powerful defender, Malone is also the top prospect in New Jersey.

The Vols have a few connections that could help bring Malone to Knoxville.

Tight ends coach Joe Osovet is listed as his primary recruiter, a coach who is familiar with the northeast, having spent much of his career coaching JUCO football in New York.

Malone also attends Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey, the alma mater of current Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano. A burgeoning baseball program at UT under Tony Vitello could also help in the effort for Malone’s signature.

The Vols’ 2021 recruiting class currently sits at No. 6 in the country, and No. 3 in the SEC. Tennessee currently has two defensive tackle commits, including 4-star prospect KaTron Evans.

Eagles’ Malik Jackson discreetly nudged ball back with his foot before snap (but it didn’t help)

Nice try.

It was a really good effort by Malik Jackson, but the cheating that was caught on camera didn’t end up working.

The veteran defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles was standing near the goal line late in his team’s win over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday night, with officials placing the ball down at the 1-yard line and getting ready for play to begin again. The Eagles were up by 11 at that point, with the game all but over.

When the referee walked away, Jackson nudged it backwards with his foot and no one called him out on it, which is just hilarious (although imagine if it mattered in the game!). But Jerrick McKinnon ran it on for a touchdown, rendering the move moot:

Just an incredible effort right there to do it, especially when it seemed like no one on the Niners or the officiating staff caught it.

Eagles DT Fletcher Cox expected to be a game-time decision vs. the Bengals with an abdomen injury

Eagles star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox will be a game-time decision against the Bengals with an abdomen injury

With Javon Hargrave healthy and in the Eagles lineup, head coach Doug Pederson could decide to think about the long haul and rest Fletcher Cox this week. During his Friday morning zoom meeting, Pederson indicated that Cox would be a game-time decision against Cincinnati with an abdomen injury suffered against the Rams.

Cox missed his second straight day of practice for precautionary reasons and he joined safety Rudy Ford (groin) on the injury list along with Jalen Reagor (thumb) and Alshon Jeffery.

Eagles Injury Report: Fletcher Cox among 7 to miss practice; Jason Kelce among 3 listed as limited

The Eagles had 7 players not practice and three others participate on a limited basis on Wednesday

The Philadelphia Eagles listed of the walking wounded grew by leaps and bounds on Wednesday when 10 players landed on the Wednesday injury report.

Corey Clement (illness), Fletcher Cox (abdomen), Rudy Ford (groin), DeSean Jackson (rest), Malik Jackson (rest), Alshon Jeffery (foot), and Jalen Reagor (thumb) were all nonparticipants.

Lane Johnson (ankle), Jason Kelce (rest) and Jason Peters (rest) were limited participants and are all on track to start on Sunday.

Jalen Reagor will reportedly miss several weeks with a thumb injury that’ll make an already thin wide receiver group even more scarce.

Javon Hargrave to make his Eagles debut against the LA Rams

Javon Hargrave to play in the Eagles home opener against the Rams

Lost in the return of Miles Sanders (hamstring), Derek Barnett (hamstring), and Lane Johnson (ankle) to the Eagles lineup is the debut of star defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who’ll make his debut with the team against the LA Rams on Sunday after battling a pec injury.

Aaron Donald and the Rams frontline will get all the hype on Sunday, but the Eagles trio of Hargrave, Fletcher Cox, and Malik Jackson should do the most game-wrecking when the action is all said and done.

Hargrave came over from the Steelers 3-4 defense and signed a three-year, $39 million deal with the Eagles to pair with Cox and Jackson to form a dominant trio. With Hargrave back in action, the Eagles could counter the Rams, by presenting a pass-rushing foursome of Brandon Graham, Hargrave, Fletcher Cox, and Malik Jackson or Josh Sweat.

Eagles snap count vs. Washington: Breakdown, analysis as Eagles implode on the road

Eagles snap count vs. Washington: Breakdown, analysis as Eagles implode on the road

The Philadelphia Eagles opened the 2020 NFL season on the road Sunday and for one quarter and a half, they looked like Super Bowl contenders. The Birds imploded on the road, giving up 27 unanswered points to Washington in a heartbreaking opening season loss.

With the Eagles playing without 7 starters on both sides of the ball, there were plenty of snaps to go around.

With the Eagles set to host the Rams next Sunday, here’s the snap count for the loss at Washington.

***

QB:  Carson Wentz 68 offensive snaps

Wentz had a disastrous second half after starting the game 14-for-18 for 182 yards passing, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, and lights out 145.8 QB rating.

Offensive Line:

Nate Herbig, Isaac Seumalo, Jason Peters, Jason Kelce 68 snaps, Jack Driscoll 50 snaps, Jordan Mailata 18 snaps, Matt Pryor 4 snaps

The Eagles makeshift offensive line struggled to hold up under the pressure caused by the Washington front. Jason Peters avoided injury and played every offensive snap. Jack Driscoll missed 18 snaps with an injury for a group that was playing without Lane Johnson at right tackle and it showed.

Running backs:

Boston Scott 38 snaps, Corey Clement 25 snaps, Jason Huntley 1 snap

The Eagles running game was nonexistent without Miles Sanders and although Boston Scott was the starter, the production from the position never materialized on Sunday. The Eagles had 57 total yards rushing on 17 carries.

Wide Receiver:

Jalen Reagor 40 snaps, DeSean Jackson 37 snaps, Greg Ward 30 snaps, JJ Arcega-Whiteside 28 snaps, John Hightower 27 snaps

The Eagles’ wideouts were led by a rookie as DeSean Jackson was in and out of the ball game.

Defensive line:

Fletcher Cox 57 snaps, Malik Jackson 55 snaps, Josh Sweat 49 snaps, Brandon Graham 38 snaps, Hassan Ridgeway 30 snaps, Vinny Curry 22 snaps, T.Y. McGill 16 snaps

The Eagles defensive front played well at times but didn’t register enough hits or pressure on Dwayne Haskins. Brandon Graham left the ballgame with a head injury.

Linebacker:

Nate Gerry 69 snaps, Duke Riley 57 snaps, T.J. Edwards 20 snaps, Genard Avery 20 Snaps, Alex Singleton 10, Shaun Bradley 4 snaps

Nate Gerry and Duke Riley played most of the game in pass defense while Shaun Bradley got in on four plays.

Cornerback:

Darius Slay 64, Avonte Maddox 61 snaps, Nickell Robey-Coleman 41 snaps, Cre’Von LeBlanc 10 snaps

Safety:

Jalen Mills 60, Rodney McLeod 70 snaps, K’Von Wallace 6 snaps, Marcus Epps 4 snaps
