Jets activate Vinny Curry from IR

Vinny Curry is finally making his Jets debut

As was likely expected, the Jets have activated defensive lineman Vinny Curry from injured reserve and he will make his season and Jets debut, and play in his first game since 2020, Sunday against the Packers, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Curry returned to practice last week after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during training camp. This after missing all of 2021 with a rare blood disorder due to complications from a splenectomy.

After a year and a half, Curry will finally play his first game as a Jet. His last game came in 2020 when he was still with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’ll return to what is already a solid defensive line rotation, though one that will be without rookie Jermaine Johnson, who will miss the game with an ankle injury.

The Jets are also promoting offensive tackle Mike Remmers and tight end Kenny Yeboah to the active roster for Sunday’s game.

Duane Brown and Vinny Curry return to practice, opening 21-day window for roster activation

Duane Brown and Vinny Curry return to practice

The Jets announced Wednesday that left tackle Duane Brown and defensive lineman Vinny Curry have returned to practice, opening their 21-day windows, respectively, to be activated to the roster after becoming eligible to return from injured reserve this week.

Head coach Robert Saleh said they will get more information on both players Wednesday and Thursday. Specifically, on Brown and the possibility of him playing Sunday, Saleh said, “We’ll see. You know me, I’m going to say optimistically, but I’m going to go with the doctor approach on this one and say day-to-day. We’ll see.”

With both players now back at practice, the Jets have 21 days to bring them back onto the active roster, or they would miss the rest of the season. In this case, both will certainly be back on the roster at some point, but it doesn’t seem like it will be this week, meaning it could be another week with Alijah Vera-Tucker at left tackle. Saleh is keeping that information close to the vest for now and we likely won’t find out anything until this weekend, perhaps even Sunday.

Jets place Vinny Curry on IR, re-sign Marcell Harris

Curry to IR, Harris back, two players brought on to the practice squad

The Jets made a couple of roster moves Thursday. As expected, the team placed defensive end Vinny Curry (hamstring) on injured reserve. He is out for at least four games.

In a corresponding move, the Jets re-signed linebacker Marcell Harris to the 53-man roster. Harris was among the final cuts as the Jets got down to their initial 53-man roster.

The Jets also added cornerback Craig James to their practice squad, as well as linebacker Chazz Surratt.

James originally signed with the Jets in July but was cut just five days later. James has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings in his career.

Surratt is also a former Viking, a third-round pick in 2021. He was among the final cuts for the Vikings this week. Surratt was a quarterback-turned-linebacker while at North Carolina.

Robert Saleh shares injury updates on Michael Carter, Vinny Curry

Jets coach Robert Saleh shared injury updates on Michael Carter and Vinny Curry, who have minor injuries

Michael Carter and Vinny Curry are dealing with injuries at the moment, though both are only minor. Jets coach Robert Saleh shared updates on each player after Tuesday’s practice after both were held out of team drills.

Carter has a “small” ankle injury and is considered day-to-day. Curry injured his hamstring but like Carter, he too is expected to return this week.

So overall, it was good news from Saleh on these two key players for the Jets.

Carter is battling Breece Hall for snaps at running back, while Curry is trying to earn reps at edge rusher. Fortunately, they’ll be back on the field soon, competing once again.

6 Jets who could take on bigger roles in 2022

These Jets could become integral parts of the team in 2022:

The Jets need more than their projected starters to be competitive this season.

New York will need its backups to step up and outperform expectations if the team is to make a postseason run in Robert Saleh’s second season. Another offseason in the staff’s systems should help some incumbent players, but it will be on them to find ways to be useful for the Jets moving forward.

Here are six players who could take on bigger roles in 2022.

Vinny Curry contract details: Jets DE gets $800K guaranteed

Vinny Curry rejoined the Jets on a deal that is comparable to the one he signed with New York last offseason.

Vinny Curry rejoined the Jets in April, signing a contract that is similar to the one he inked with New York last offseason.

Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Curry most recently signed a one-year, $1.12 million deal that includes $800,00 guaranteed. For comparison, Curry inked a one-year, $1.3 million pact with $1.1 million guaranteed last year.

Curry never got a chance to play on that original deal after losing his entire 2021 campaign to complications stemming from a rare blood disorder. Curry revealed the issue last August after the disorder was discovered by Jets doctors in July. The diagnosis required the removal of his spleen, but Curry was supposed to return last September. But blood clots formed during recovery, which forced Curry to go on blood thinners. Those prevented Curry from sustaining physical contact for a while.

Curry vowed to return in 2022. The Jets waived him from the non-football injury list in January, but they’re now taking him up on his promise to take the field again.

New York signed the defensive lineman on Wednesday. Curry, 33, signed with the Jets last offseason, but he lost his entire 2021 campaign to complications stemming from a rare blood disorder.

Curry revealed the issue last August. At the time, he shared that the disorder was discovered by team doctors in July. The diagnosis required the removal of his spleen, but Curry was supposed to return in mid-September. However, blood clots formed during his recovery, which forced him to go on blood thinners. That prevented Curry from sustaining physical contact for the next three to six months, he wrote in a social media post.

Curry vowed to play again in 2022. The Jets waived him from the non-football injury list in January, but they’re now taking him up on his promise to take the field again.

“I’m back, baby,” Curry said in a video posted to New York’s Twitter account. “I’m ready to take flight and kick some [expletive] on the way. Let’s go!”

Curry previously spent seven years in Philadephia and one in Tampa Bay. A Neptune, New Jersey native, he has 32.5 sacks for his career. Curry tallied three sacks as a rotational defender with the Eagles in 2020.

Former Eagles DE Vinny Curry re-signs with the Jets

Former Philadelphia Eagles DE Vinny Curry agrees to deal with the New York Jets after missing the 2021 NFL season

Vinny Curry is a New Jersey native and resident, so he’ll now just split the difference between his former team and his new franchise after agreeing to a deal with the New York Jets.

Curry and Jets GM Joe Douglas have familiarity and Curry’s ability to play multiple positions along the defensive line should translate well for Robert Saleh and the staff in New York.

Curry is returning to the Jets after he announced that he was going to miss the entire 2021 NFL season after doctors diagnosed him with blood clots.

The veteran defensive tackle had been diagnosed with a rare blood disorder that required the removal of his spleen and the blood clots formed during recovery.

Curry who turns 34 in June, is entering his 11th NFL season and spent eight years with the Eagles.

At the time, Curry wrote that the issue was discovered by team doctors in July. The diagnosis required the removal of his spleen, but Curry was supposed to return in mid-September.
