Heritage High School (1-1) defeated South-Doyle High School, 30-20, Friday at Billy K. Nicely Memorial Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Joe Osovet enters his second season as Heritage’s head coach.

Osovet served as tight ends coach for the Vols in 2020. He also served as Tennessee’s Director of Player Development (2018) and Director of Football Programming (2019).

Osovet guided Heritage to a 4-6 record in 2022, the school’s best season since 2017 (3-7).

He inherited Heritage’s program with a 0-10 record in 2021.

Heritage will next play Aug. 31 William Blount High School in Maryville, Tennessee. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. EDT.

In 2001, Osovet created a scheme called a manipulation within his Bolt offense at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York.

Twenty-plus years later, manipulation plays are executed throughout the sport and are known as RPOs.

Former Tennessee assistant coach Joe Osovet is in his first season as head coach at Heritage High School (Maryville, Tennessee).

Osovet has guided the Mountaineers to a 4-5 (2-2 Region 2-5A) record in 2022 and is in position for a TSSAA Class 5A playoff berth.

Heritage hosts Halls High School (Knoxville, Tennessee) Friday. A win against Halls (1-8, 1-3) would clinch a playoff berth for Heritage.

Heritage (5-6) last made the playoffs in 2016. The Mountaineers also made the playoffs in 2015, going 3-8.

Osovet replaced Tim Hammontee at Heritage. Heritage recorded an 0-10 season in 2021 after finishing 2-8 (2020) and 0-10 (2019).

Osovet served as the Vols’ tight ends coach under head coach Jeremy Pruitt. He served as Tennessee’s Director of Player Development (2018) and Director of Football Programming (2019).

Former Vols’ assistant Joe Osovet wins first game as head coach with Heritage.

Former University of Tennessee assistant coach Joe Osovet earned his first victory as Heritage High School’s (Maryville, Tennessee) head coach Friday.

The Mountaineers (1-2, 1-0 Region 2-5A) forced five turnovers in a 45-21 win against Cocke County.

Friday’s victory ended a 17-game losing streak for the Mountaineers. It was Heritage’s first win since Sept. 25, 2020.

Osovet served as the Vols’ tight ends coach in 2020 under head coach Jeremy Pruitt. He also served as Tennessee’s Director of Player Development (2018) and Director of Football Programming (2019).

Osovet served as head coach of Nassau Community College (2013-15) and at ASA College (2016-17) before arriving at Tennessee.

He was hired as Heritage’s head coach in February.

Former Tennessee assistant coach Joe Osovet made his debut as head coach at Heritage High School (Maryville, Tennessee) Thursday.

Heritage lost, 45-7, to Maryville High School (Maryville, Tennessee).

Heritage recorded six first downs against Maryville.

Osovet served as tight ends coach for the Vols in 2020.

He served as Tennessee’s Director of Player Development in 2018. In 2019, Osovet was Director of Football Programming.

Osovet was named Heritage’s head coach in February, replacing Tim Hammontree, who won a state championship at Maryville.

Heritage went 0-10 last season and has lost 15 consecutive games.

Heritage last made the playoffs in 2016, finishing 5-6.

The Mountaineers will play Campbell County Aug. 26.

Joe Osovet hires a former Vols’ undergraduate assistant as co-defensive coordinator at Heritage.

Former Tennessee assistant Joe Osovet was hired as head coach at Heritage High School in Maryville, Tennessee on Feb. 9.

Osovet announced Monday he has hired Jake Dawson to his coaching staff.

Dawson will serve as Heritage’s co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach.

Dawson served as a defensive undergraduate assistant at Tennessee from 2019-20. He was a safeties coach in 2021 at Powell High School in Powell, Tennessee.

With the Vols, Osovet served as director of player development (2018) and director of football programming (2019). He was tight ends coach for Tennessee in 2020.

Heritage High School told Vols Wire Osovet will be introduced in the theatre at 2:30 p.m. EST on Thursday.

Osovet later became head coach at Nassau Community College from 2013-15. He then was hired as head coach at ASA College from 2016-17 before joining the Southeastern Conference in an off-field role at Tennessee.

With the Vols, Osovet served as Director of Player Development (2018) and Director of Football Programming (2019). He was tight ends coach for Tennessee in 2020.

Osovet joined the show “Tennessee Two-A-Days” to discuss his Bolt offense.

“When I took over as the OC at Nassau, we were always a hard-nosed, pro-style offense, run the ball down your throat,” Osovet said. “We got to a point where we were seeing so much loaded boxes.

“I figured lets spread things out and we can still maintain our power run game, but now when people start adding that eighth and ninth defender in the box, we’ll be able to do some type of manipulation of them.”

Osovet’s Bolt offense features various formations that can manipulate a defense. The offense is a physical uptempo brand in pistol looks.

His offense showcases a double-stack in 10-personnel, a double stack extend in 10-personnel with wide receivers from numbers to numbers.

2×2 sets are also used with wide receivers typically around four yards apart.

Tiger packages feature 3×1 sets that can provide a two-stack at times.

A down-the-field passing game also places stress on defenses with looks in Hooters, Motorboat, Sting and Sail.

Osovet is also creative in the red zone and uses a yo-yo motion to manipulate defenders to find the end zone.

KNOXVILLE — Joe Osovet was promoted from Director of Programming for Football to tight ends coach in January by Jeremy Pruitt.

Osovet’s contract runs through Jan. 31, 2022.

Three Tennessee assistant coaches (Will Friend, Tee Martin and Brian Niedermeyer) will have their contracts expire following the 2020 season.

Pruitt will also fill an open position after relieving Jimmy Brumbaugh of his duties coaching Tennessee’s defensive line following Week 4 this season.

Osovet has a long history of offensive success in his career and can help Tennessee from a quarterback standpoint during the remainder of this season or in preparation for next.
