Ohio State baseball comes from behind to beat the Dayton Flyers Wednesday

A season series sweep of Dayton was in order for the Ohio State baseball team Wednesday. #GoBucks

The Ohio State baseball team has a lot of work still to do, but there are signs that it is starting to figure things out a little bit after a disappointing start to the Big Ten season.

On Wednesday, OSU stepped outside of the conference to host the Dayton Flyers and won by way of comeback variety, 8-7, to improve to 20-17 overall.

It didn’t take long for the Buckeyes to get on the board first. In the bottom of inning No. 1, OSU scored two runs thanks to an RBI double by Kade Kern, followed by a sacrifice fly by Tyler Pettorini.

The Flyers struck back with four runs in the top of the third inning to make it 4-2, then tacked on another couple of runs in the fourth inning to go up 6-2. The score would say that way until the bottom of the seventh inning when OSU began the climb back.

Mitchell Okouley scored on a groundout by Trey Lipsey to make it 6-3, then Cole Andrews got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to cut the deficit to 6-4.

Dayton got another run in the top of the eighth, but that only set the stage for the final comeback. In the bottom of the inning, Matthew Graveline drew a walk with the bases loaded to pull to within two runs at 7-5. Marcus Ernst then hit a two-run single to tie things up at 7-7. That was followed by another walk with the bases loaded to Henry Kaczmar to give the Buckeyes the 8-7 lead.

Pitcher Jonah Jenkins then came in to shut the door for Ohio State in the top of the ninth inning, and the Buckeyes went home happy with a three-game season sweep of Dayton.

OSU will get back into conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Penn State.

Look: Bengals’ DJ Reader, B.J. Hill show up at Reds game

One got the first pitch and the other was snapping photos.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman B.J. Hill has quickly become a fan favorite after coming over as part of a ho-hum trade and breaking out enough to earn a big-money extension.

There’s also the awesome personality, of course.

It’s a similar story for fellow defensive lineman DJ Reader, who was one of the biggest free agency wins in team history before having an equal impact on the field.

Hill showed that personality off recently by taking a tour of the stadium at the Cincinnati Reds game, snapping pictures as he went. Reader showed off his arm by throwing out the first pitch.

Bally ports Cincinnati and others, including Hill himself, documented the fun offseason event on social media:

WATCH: Wisconsin’s new-look offense highlighted in latest episode of ‘The Camp’

New offensive coordinator Phil Longo and the Badgers offense was center stage on the most recent episode of Wisconsin football’s show “The Camp.”

Longo comes to Wisconsin by way of North Carolina, where he held the same position. He brings a new-look style to a Badger offense traditionally known for its running backs, offensive line, and slow pace of play.

The new-look Badger offense expects to keep much of the hard-nosed identity mixed in with air raid principles and a lot more free-flowing action for the wide receivers.

Check out Longo talking about his wide receivers and more on the latest episode of Wisconsin’s inside look at spring practice:

Watch: Notre Dame’s new special teams coach Marty Biagi mic’d up

More Irish mic’d up fun

When [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] lost special teams coach [autotag]Brian Mason[/autotag] to the Indianapolis Colts, it left a huge hole for head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] to fill.

The Irish special teams last year was elite, arguably the best group in the country last year. Freeman tabbed former Notre Dame special teams analyst [autotag]Marty Biagi[/autotag], who rose the ranks since leaving South Bend, working with Purdue’s and Ole Miss’ special team.

It was viewed as a very good hire, even if the shoes Biagi had to fill were fairly large.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

It seems like it’s been a right of passage for coaches this spring to get mic’d up and it was Biagi’s turn. Watch below the new, err, returning Notre Dame special teams coach interacting during practice.

PODCAST: What WRs, O-linemen should Cardinals fans know about?

In this edition of the podcast, Jess Root and Seth Cox, among other things, break down receivers and offensive linemen to know in the draft.

The NFL draft is a little more than a week away and we have a new podcast episode to get you ready. Revenge of the Birds’ Seth Cox and I have an extra long show in our third 2023 NFL draft preview.

There were three main topics.

We went over how the latest betting odds suggest that the Houston Texans will not draft a quarterback No. 2 overall and instead will take Alabama pass rusher Will Anderson. Could it happen and how does it affect the Cardinals?

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

After that, we continue our positional preview. We go over the wide receivers to know at all parts of the draft and do the same thing for offensive linemen, focusing first on tackles and then on centers and guards.

Enjoy the show!

Enjoy the show with the embedded player above or by subscribing to the show on Apple PodcastsSpotify or your favorite podcast platform, so you never miss a show. Make sure as well to give it a five-star rating!

Here are the time markers for the topics:

Lions held a top-30 visit with TCU RB Kendre Miller

The Detroit Lions held a top-30 visit with TCU RB Kendre Miller

As we’ve been monitoring all off-season, the Detroit Lions have been doing their fair share of top-30 visits for the 2023 NFL Draft. It’s not unusual for teams to push these visits to the deadline. This year for the 2023 NFL Draft, teams hurry to beat today’s deadline for top-30 visits.

For Detroit, it was reported that TCU RB Kendre Miller had a top-30 visit with the team. While it seems unlikely for the Lions to select a running back early in the 2023 NFL Draft, they could very much be interested in a player such as Miller. He could ease into a role with the team and could potentially be part of a rotation that showcases Swift, Montgomery and himself.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

He’s a physical runner that has good contact balance and unique cutting ability. I love his patience and he sees the field well while running through tackles. On my big board for the 2023 NFL Draft, Miller ranked as my 101st overall player and just missed the cut for my 2023 NFL Draft Guide. Much of that is due to Miller coming off a knee injury that kept him out of the National Championship game against Georgia. Meanwhile, there were already concerns about his speed translating to the next level. He wasn’t able to test at all during the pre-draft process.

Between the tackles, Miller should be just fine. If he can stay healthy, he should be a serviceable backup with the potential to start down the road. It’ll be interesting to see where he lands after running for 1399 rushing yards on 224 carries and 17 touchdowns. More than likely, we’ll hear his name called on the early stages of day three of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Titans sign former Texans WR Chris Moore

The Titans signed former Texans WR Chris Moore on Wednesday.

The Tennessee Titans finally added some much-needed depth and talent to their wide receiver room on Wednesday after signing former Texans wideout Chris Moore.

Tennessee’s interest in Moore recently leaked to the public, and the deal is now official.

This isn’t going to move the championship needle by any means, but the Titans need all the help they can get offensively at the moment, and Moore is coming off a career year in Houston.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

Moore totaled 548 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 48 catches last year. His best game came against Dallas back in Week 14 where he was targeted 11 times, catching 10 of those passes for 124 yards.

Ideally, one would have preferred for the Titans to go the younger route considering Moore will be 30 in a few months, but this at least brings an experienced and relatively reliable receiver into a room that needs both of those things.

Nevertheless, this shouldn’t change anything when it comes to the draft, Tennessee still needs to find a competent wideout to pair with Treylon Burks atop the depth chart, and I would expect that to happen sometime within the first two days of the draft.
