Week 12 Scouting Notebook: A look at potential Chargers prospects in 2024 NFL draft

Here are a few prospects the Chargers could be watching in Week 12.

Another week of college football is here, which means we are back with another edition of the Scouting Notebook.

The Scouting Notebook will feature prospects to keep an eye on throughout the day. While some may think it’s too early to start talking about the 2024 NFL draft, there’s never a bad time to talk about the future of the Chargers.

With that being said, here are a handful of prospects to watch for in Week 12.

Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Harvard EDGE Truman Jones

Our #Chiefs UDFA Spotlight series continues with an Ivy League edge rusher looking to make his mark in Kansas City.

A three-year starter and team captain at Westminster School in Atlanta, Georgia, Jones had offers from all of the top Ivy League schools and interest from a half dozen others. He enrolled at Harvard in 2018, appearing in just three games as a true freshman.

Jones burst onto the scene as a productive contributor in 2019, recording the second-most sacks (6.5) in the Ivy League that season. He worked his way up to become the 148th team captain in Harvard football history during his senior campaign, which saw him earn a unanimous First-Team All-Ivy League selection.

Arkansas softball vs. Harvard-How to watch and stream

Arkansas softball begins its NCAA Tournament journey at 6:30 on ESPN+.

Arkansas begins its NCAA Tournament quest Friday night at Bogle Park, where the Razorbacks will take on Harvard.

Courtney Deifel’s crew went 38-17, 14-10 in the SEC, and went 21-8 at home this season.

The winner of the game will advance to play tomorrow against either Oregon or Notre Dame, who were playing at the time of this writing.

Arkansas won its regional a year ago and hosted a Super Regional as well, winning the first game against Texas before losing the following two to end its season there.

Harvard RB accepts invite to Dolphins rookie minicamp

He’s also going to be at minicamp for the Chiefs.

As the 2023 NFL draft has come and gone, teams have added rookies to their rosters and are in the process of signing those who went undrafted.

For those who haven’t been given a contract, teams will offer tryout opportunities at their minicamps.

Last year, the Miami Dolphins hosted 14 tryout players for rookie minicamp, and this year, we’ve already seen an invite be accepted. According to The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler, Harvard running back Aidan Borguet will attend, and he will also attend the camp hosted by the Kansas City Chiefs.

In Borguet’s 30 games with the Crimson, he rushed for 2,429 yards and 25 touchdowns on 5.9 yards per carry. He also added 133 yards and a score on 11 receptions. In his three years, he was a third-team All-Ivy selection (2019), second-team All-Ivy selection (2021) and first-team All-Ivy selection (2022).

Miami’s pretty set at running back, at this moment, with Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Devon Achane on the roster. Borguet would have to wow coaches during minicamp to earn a contract.

Former Harvard forward Chris Ledlum announced his commitment to Tennessee on Wednesday.

Before signing with Harvard, Ledlum was named 2019 Massachusetts Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year at Northfield Mount Hermon School.

Ledlum is the second commitment this week for the Vols. Former USC Upstate guard Jordan Gainey announced his commitment Tuesday.

Chiefs to host Harvard EDGE Truman Jones on top-30 visit

The #Chiefs are set to host an ivy league edge rusher on a top-30 visit, per report.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to bring in prospects for visits as the days wind down ahead of the 2023 NFL draft. The latest prospect in for a visit is an ivy league edge rusher who had a dominant showing at the East-West Shrine Bowl.

According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, the Chiefs are set to have Harvard EDGE Truman Jones in for a top-30 visit. In four years with the Crimson, Jones posted 88 total tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, four passes defended, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and four blocked kicks on special teams. After a dominant senior campaign, during which he was named the 148th team captain in school history, Jones was selected for unanimous First-Team All-Ivy League honors.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 251 pounds, Jones proved to be a tremendous athlete on his pro day. He touched 37 inches on the vertical jump with a 10-2 broad jump. His short shuttle time of 4.38 seconds would have made the top 5 at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.

The thing that pops the most when you watch Jones play is the raw power. He sets a strong edge in the run game and hardly gives up any ground. That power and the effort in which he plays translate when he earns the opportunity to rush the passer.

It appears that Kansas City is looking to bolster the defensive trenches with some late-round, undrafted free agent types. With this top-30 visit with Kansas City, Jones now joins the ranks of Stephen F. Austin EDGE BJ Thompson, Pitt EDGE Deslin Alexandre, Western Kentucky DT Brodric Martin and Toledo DL Desjuan Johnson.

Michigan basketball reaches out to top-five ranked transfer

This would be a HUGE get if #Michigan can make it happen!

The Wolverines basketball squad is expected to be active in the transfer portal this offseason. Michigan already made the top 10 for one of its top transfer targets, and the Wolverines have reached out to a huge transfer target.

Forward Chris Leldum out of Harvard announced he was going to enter the transfer portal in early March. The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 18.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last year playing in the Ivy League. Ledlum was an All-Ivy League selection after his phenomenal play.

According to Adam Zagoria, Michigan basketball — among many others — has already reached out to the former Harvard forward.

According to On3, Ledlum is ranked No. 5 in the transfer portal player rankings.

The Wolverines need forward help for next season. Ledlum has the ability to play the 2, 3 or 4 position. He’s not a great 3-point shooter, shooting only 29% from deep last year. But he is a ferocious rebounder who averaged nine boards a game two years ago and over eight this past season.

Ledlum played three seasons at Harvard and would have two seasons of eligibility left if he chooses.

Notre Dame punter uses memory of brother to push forward

A sad but touching story as we begin to enter the holiday season.

I’ve never met Blue and Gold Illustrated beat writer Tyler Horka but he seems like more than just “An outstanding young reporter” like [autotag]Paul Finebaum[/autotag] once called him (according to Horka’s Twitter profile).  Horka seems like he’s going to one day be playing the role of Jen Lada or Tom Rinaldi on College Gameday by making your eyes water on fall Saturday mornings.

Horka has shared a number of stories that pull at the heartstrings this year that include Notre Dame super-recruit [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag]’s love for his late brother, how linebacker Prince Kollie saved his high school football coach’s life, and how Dabo Swinney helped Notre Dame wide receivers coach Chasni Stuckey get his start in coaching.

Horka knows how to make a room suddenly get a bit dusty and did it again this week.  He spoke with Notre Dame punter Jon Sot and some of those closest to him about the untimely death of his older brother.  I don’t want to steal clicks from Horka’s piece but instead, want to push more viewers to it.  Whether you’re a Notre Dame fan or just a college football fan that visits us regularly, go check it out.

“Sometimes I look back like, ‘How am I here right now?” Sot said. “It doesn’t feel like I should be here with some of the things that have happened. But I always push through it.”

Jon Sot to Tyler Horka of Blue Gold Illustrated

Be sure to check it out in full as it helps get your mind right entering the holiday season.

Oh, and hey Horka:  keep up the great work.
