Tom Izzo: A.J. Hoggard will not return to Michigan State basketball

Tom Izzo: A.J. Hoggard will not return to Michigan State basketball

In a recent, illuminating radio interview, Tom Izzo gave some much-requested clarity around his program as it currently stands. While there are still plenty of question-marks, it doesn’t appear that A.J. Hoggard is one of them, as far as MSU is concerned.

Izzo said that Hoggard is currently exploring a professional basketball career. Then added the following:

“He could go back to college. It wouldn’t be here,” Izzo said.

That seems pretty resolute. Izzo seems ready to give the reins to Jeremy Fears Jr. and Tre Holloman and refresh his roster for another run.

Watch Michigan State football safety Jaden Mangham talk about new coaching staff, spring practices

Jaden Mangham spoke to the media this week about the new coaching staff and spring practices

To me, one of the most interesting things to hear about out of Michigan State football’s spring practices is how the players who were already on the team are adjusting to the new coaching staff.

These are guys who are now playing for a staff that didn’t recruit them, and they didn’t sign up to play for, but they are still embracing the changes and trying to grow as players.

One of those players is Jaden Mangham, the Spartans’ safety who seems poised for a big year. The cameras caught up with Mangham this week after practice, and you can see that interview below:

It was a tough night at the office for Michigan State hockey as they dropped a heart-breaker to their rival Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA Tournament. However, that doesn’t tarnish what was an amazing season for the Spartans, who won both the Big Ten Regular Season Championship, and the Big Ten Tournament Championship.

After the loss, MSU hockey coach Adam Nightingale addressed the media, which you can see below:

Michigan State football adds Ann Arbor Huron WR Dyson Sims as PWO commitment

Michigan State football adds Ann Arbor Huron WR Dyson Sims as PWO commitment

The news around Michigan State football isn’t coming quite as rapidly as it did when Jonathan Smith first joined the program, but you can expect a steady diet of news to keep trickling out throughout the spring, like we did on Saturday when the Spartans received a PWO (preferred walk-on) commitment from 2-star ATH Dyson Sims.

Sims, labeled an ATH by 247Sports, is their No. 112 ranked player in the state of Michigan for 2024 and will be a nice addition at wide receiver.

REPORT: Michigan State basketball assistant coach a candidate for Detroit Mercy job

REPORT: Michigan State basketball assistant coach a candidate for Detroit Mercy job

After a disappointing season that saw the Spartans fall in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, many fans have been asking for Tom Izzo to make some staff changes. According to a report from Tony Paul of the Detroit News, Izzo may be forced to make that change, as Michigan State basketball assistant coach Mark Montgomery has been flagged as a ‘serious candidate’ for the Detroit Mercy head coaching job.

Montgomery was an assistant at Detroit Mercy in 2021 and was the former head coach of Northern Illinois.

Michigan State women’s basketball falls short to North Carolina in first round of NCAA Tournament

Michigan State women’s basketball falls short to North Carolina in first round of NCAA Tournament

Well, it was a heck of a first season for head coach Robyn Fralick and her Michigan State women’s basketball team. The Spartans had their best season in eight years, defied the odds and finished No. 4 in the Big Ten, and put a scare into North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, despite falling short. The Spartans fell to the Tar Heels 59 to 56.

This was always going to be a difficult match-up for MSU, as the Spartans are widely-known to be lacking size this year, so it wasn’t a surprise that they got absolutely dominated on the boards, getting out-rebounded 45 to 27. It’s actually remarkable that the Spartans only lost by three, considering North Carolina had 18 offensive rebounds to the Spartans’ six.

Michigan State will be able to get some revenge on North Carolina when the men play them tomorrow.

WATCH: Jaden Akins on-court interview after Michigan State basketball’s win over Mississippi State

WATCH: Jaden Akins on-court interview after Michigan State basketball’s win over Mississippi State

Well, after a long season of trepidation, anxiety, anger, and frustration, Michigan State basketball is moving right along in the NCAA Tournament after handily dispatching Mississippi State in the first round of play.

One of the heroes of that win was Jaden Akins. The Spartan shooting guard was flying all over the court, showing off his athleticism and hitting big shots, while playing some amazing defense as well.

After the game, Akins was given the honor of the on-court interview, which you can watch below:

Michigan State women’s basketball a 9-seed in the NCAA Tournament

It didn’t take Robyn Fralick long to make her mark on Michigan State women’s basketball. In the first year under new head coach Robyn Fralick, the Spartans make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021.

MSU will be a 9-seed in the tournament and will face 8-seed North Carolina in the first round of play. The Spartans will be trying to make a run this year, the program hasn’t made the Sweet Sixteen since 2009.
