Ohio State football makes Texas 5-star cornerbacks final five

Ohio State could be adding to one of the nations best secondary recruiting classes. #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] has done a great job of reloading talent in its secondary and it looks like the Buckeyes might not be finished in the 2024 recruiting class.

Already with commitments from Aaron Scott, Bryce West, Miles Lockhart, and Jaylen McClain with Garrett Stover potentially lining up at the position, the Buckeyes have reloaded.

There are still a few big recruits that could join them, one of them being Texas cornerback [autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 190-pound defender took his official visit to Columbus in mid-June, and now has make it known which five schools are still on his list along with OSU: Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon and LSU.

Every school on his final list would love to land Black, as he’s ranked as the No. 3 cornerback and 24th overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. If he was to join the Ohio State recruiting class, it would be another big recruiting win for the Buckeyes.

5-star CB Kobe Black puts Oregon among top schools

The Ducks landed among the top schools for 5-star cornerback Kobe Black, the No. 2 CB in the 2024 class.

Dan Lanning Demetrice Martin, and the Oregon Ducks have been on a roll when recruiting cornerbacks since they landed in Eugene. Already in the 2024 recruiting cycle, the Ducks have landed commitments from 4-star CB Ify Obidegwu (No. 122 overall player, No. 11 CB) and flipped 4-star CB Dakoda Fields (No. 83 overall, No. 9 CB) from the USC Trojans back to Oregon.

Now the Ducks are finding themselves in the running for one of the top defensive backs left on the board — 5-star CB Kobe Black.

On Wednesday, Black announced his top five schools, listing the Ducks, Texas Longhorns, Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Black is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 CB in the nation, and the No. 26 overall player in the class. He took an unofficial visit to Eugene back in the month of June, and said on social media that he can’t wait to get back for an official visit in the future.

So will the Ducks be able to land another elite defensive back in the class of 2024 and continue to grow in the secondary? We will have to wait and see, but they are at least in the running to do so.

5-star cornerback announces his final five schools

The No. 2 cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class has trimmed his list of possible destinations down to five.

The No. 2 cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class has trimmed his list of possible destinations down to his final five schools. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has LSU in the running to land him.

[autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, four-star cornerback from Waco, Texas, where he plays for Connally High School. The Connally Cadets finished the 2022 season 9-3 with a loss to Hamshire-Fannett in the second round of the UIL 4A D2 playoffs.

Black has trimmed his list of schools down to LSU, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Texas. The Texas Longhorns received a Crystal Ball projection to land him back in June and the Longhorns are a 92% favorite to land him per On3.

LSU currently has four cornerback commits for the 2024 recruiting class ([autotag]Cai Bates[/autotag], [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] and [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag]). Two of those guys are four-stars and the other two are three-stars. Black is a five-star and the No. 2 cornerback overall so if he were to commit he would further bolster how good this class is.

Texas Football: 2024 recruiting class can still win its “big three”

Texas’ three most important targets are still out there to win over in the next few months.

Texas recruiting has cooled in recent days. We’ve seen cornerbacks Selman Bridges and Corian Gipson commit elsewhere and effectively thwart the Longhorns’ dream cornerback class. Even so, there are several big time targets the team can win out for over the next few months.

There are three essential recruits needed for the 2024 class in my estimation. Texas needs to win them all. Edge rusher Colin Simmons, cornerback Kobe Black and offensive tackle Brandon Baker are those three.

If Texas wins out on the above three players, the class is an unmitigated success. And it really wouldn’t matter who else they fail to win.

Simmons, Baker and Black play at the three premium positions you can’t always acquire through the portal. That’s not the case at other positions.

Texas found a big time quarterback and several key receivers through the portal. Quinn Ewers (Ohio State) and his pass catchers Xavier Worthy (Michigan), Isaiah Neyor (Wyoming) and AD Mitchell (Georgia) were all transfers. But to get elite edges, tackles and cornerbacks you have to recruit high school talent.

There’s more to add in this recruiting class. How it finishes in these three recruitments could determine how we view the 2024 class.

Another 2024 5-star prospect is headed to Texas A&M this weekend

2024 5-star CB Kobe Black will join over nine 5-star prospects set to descend on College Station for the annual recruiting pool party.

Add another 2024 high-ranking prospect to the visitors’ list, as Texas A&M’s annual recruiting pool set is for this weekend during the final days of July, which will now include five-star cornerback Kobe Black, who will join over nine other five-star prospects in the 2024 cycle.

Black is currently positioned as the 26th-ranked player in the 2024 class, and 2nd-ranked cornerback, and the 5th-ranked player in Texas, according to 247Sports.

This summer, Black has been courted by nearly every blue-blood program in the country. At the same time, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, and A&M are the primary teams battling for his commitment, the Aggies hosted Black during an unofficial visit in late June 21, and after visiting the Longhorns just two days after, Black will make his way back to College Station for what could be a defining recruiting moment between both parties.

As one of the most talented defensive prospects in the class, Black is a nightmare matchup at cornerback, and during his 2022 junior season at Connally High School in Waco, Texas, Black recorded 36 tackles, two tackles for loss, nine PBUs, and two interceptions: both returned for touchdowns.

Where do the Sooners stand in On3’s team recruiting rankings after recent commitments?

The Oklahoma Sooners have picked up several commitments in the last couple of weeks. Where do they stand in On3’s team recruiting rankings?

The Oklahoma Sooners have picked up momentum on the recruiting trail with the recent commitments of Xavier Robinson, Wyatt Gilmore and Ivan Carreon. That makes back-to-back weeks the Sooners have landed pledges from multiple prospects, three of which were four-star prospects.

The rest of the summer could be even bigger as the Sooners await decisions from five-star prospects [autotag]David Stone[/autotag], [autotag]Williams Nwaneri[/autotag], [autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag], [autotag]Terry Bussey[/autotag] and [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag]. The Sooners appear best-positioned for Nwaneri and Stone, but their efforts have given them an outside shot at the other three.

The Sooners are also awaiting decisions on running backs [autotag]Taylor Tatum[/autotag] and [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag], a pair of players that have been trending toward Oklahoma for some time. And we know [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag] and Oklahoma will add several more offensive linemen to the class.

With what’s still to come, the Oklahoma Sooners appear heading toward another top-10 class in the [autotag]2024 recruiting cycle[/autotag].

Here’s a look at how the top 25 stacks up in On3’s team recruiting rankings as of July 2. Interestingly, the SEC is very prominent in the rankings: 13 of the 16 teams that will make up the conference in 2024 are inside the top 25.

Sooners in the hunt for several high-profile 2024 recruits

As the month of July gets underway, the Oklahoma Sooners are still in fantastic position for five of 247Sports top 20 prospects in 2024.

The 2024 recruiting cycle is in full swing. Several of the top players are already off of the board and have made their commitments known. But not all of the top recruits have made their decision and Oklahoma is still in a great spot for several of the class’ top prospects.

The Oklahoma Sooners are still in the running for five of 247Sports’ top 20 uncommitted prospects.

Those recruits are five-star defense lineman Williams Nwaneri, five-star defensive lineman David Stone, five-star wide receiver Terry Bussey, five-star defensive back Kobe Black and five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley.

Of those five, Oklahoma sits in a really good spot for four of them. Let’s take a look at where the Sooners stand in their recruitment of these top 247Sports prospects.

Looking at Texas’ path to the best cornerback class in 2024

Texas leads for three cornerbacks ranked inside the Top 70 overall recruits.

Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph has the chance to build an historic cornerback class on the Forty Acres. He’s off to a good start.

After the Longhorns’ first major recruiting weekend of June, Joseph had a commitment from four-star cornerback Santana Wilson. The Arizona cornerback comes from an NFL bloodline, but he appears to be faster than his dad, Adrian Wilson.

Santana might only be the beginning of the fun for the Longhorns cornerback class. Texas is trending for the No. 22 overall player and No. 2 cornerback in Kobe Black. The team also leads for the No. 46 player and No. 5 cornerback Selman Bridges as well as No. 67 player and No. 8 cornerback Corian Gipson.

Here’s a look at where Texas stands with all three of the premier cornerbacks according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine.
