Georgia Bulldogs add athletic 4-star CB Ondre Evans

Georgia Bulldogs add athletic 4-star CB Ondre Evans

The Georgia Bulldogs have signed cornerback Ondre Evans to their No. 1 recruiting class. Evans, the top-ranked cornerback in Tennessee, is a four-star recruit that adds to an elite secondary class in Athens.

Evans is the 8th-ranked cornerback in the nation and the 99th ranked overall player. He played his high school ball at CPA and he’s a lean, athletic corner that stands 6-feet tall and 183 pounds. The Nashville product was originally committed to LSU, but flipped to Georgia in October.

Evans is an opportunistic cornerback that can jump routes because of his quick burst. Throughout his high school career, he’s played more zone, but can get work in man coverage. He played both sides of the ball in high school, as well, but will likely stay at cornerback for the Bulldogs. He was also a short distance runner in track and field.

The Bulldogs had a relatively young cornerback room in 2023. Evans along with other five-star cornerback Ellis Robinson IV, those two could have an opportunity to play in 2024 if they impress.

BREAKING: Four-star cornerback Cai Bates decommits from LSU

The Tigers lost a key piece in the 2024 class on Monday night.

After some nice recent wins on the recruiting trail, LSU suffered a pretty substantive loss on Monday night as four-star Edgewater (Orlando) cornerback [autotag]Cai Bates[/autotag] decommitted.

Bates ranks within the top 100 nationally, per the 247Sports Composite, and he was the second-highest-rated committed player in LSU’s 2024 class prior to his decommitment. Bates committed to LSU on June 26 following an official visit days earlier.

With Bates’ departure from the class, LSU’s group of 2024 commits now ranks 14th nationally per 247Sports and 12th nationally per On3. Between Bates and [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag], LSU has lost both of their top 160 cornerback commits in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

LSU still has a trio of cornerback commits in four-star [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag] and three-stars [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag] and [autotag]Bernard Causey[/autotag]. There is no clear favorite to land Bates now, though Florida State, Alabama, Tennessee and others remain in the mix.

Recent LSU recruiting addition named among most impactful flips in 2024 cycle

The Tigers’ class moved back into the top 10 after it flipped Weston Davis from Texas A&M last month.

Recruiting can be a fickle thing, and even when you have a player on board, it isn’t over until they sign on the dotted line — or sometimes after.

Decommitments and flips are part of the game, and it stealing away a player pledged to another school (especially a rival) can give a team quite a bit of momentum on the trail.

LSU has been the victim of this at times this cycle, losing cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] to SEC foe Georgia, but it recently pulled off a flip of its own as it convinced five-star offensive tackle [autotag]Weston Davis[/autotag] to join the class despite having previously committed to Texas A&M.

On3 deemed that one of the most impactful flips in the 2024 cycle.

As Texas A&M has struggled along through this season under Jimbo Fisher, much of the speculation has centered around whether the Aggies will bring him back for another season in 2024. On the recruiting trail, teams have taken advantage of that uncertainty, and one of the biggest beneficiaries has been LSU.

The Tigers are pushing for a number of A&M commits, and they’ve already flipped one, landing On3 five-star offensive tackle Weston Davis at the end of October. The Tigers used their proximity to his home in Beaumont, as well as their early development of young linemen to pull off the flip. Now they turn their attention to recent Aggies decommit Dre’lon Miller, as well as current pledges Gabriel Reliford and Terry Bussey.

The Tigers’ class had fallen out of the national top 10, but it’s back in with the addition of Davis as coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] looks to finish strong with his third signing class.

Where does LSU’s 2024 recruiting class rank after recent shakeups?

Here’s where LSU’s class ranks after some recent shakeups.

LSU’s 2024 class looks different than it did last week.

It took a hit when cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] flipped to Georgia. It’s a big loss considering Evans was just one of eight top 200 commits in the class and plays a position of need.

The staff did its best to recoup the loss, though. In recent days, the Tigers got commitments from corners [autotag]PJ Woodland[/autotag] and [autotag]Bernard Causey[/autotag]. Both are three stars, but there’s optimism about what they can bring to the class.

The Tigers now sit with five corners in the 2024 class. Causey and Woodland are joined by [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Cai Bates[/autotag] and [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag].

Even with the new additions and the young talent already on the roster, expect LSU to be active recruiting defensive backs in the portal.

But after the recent shakeups, let’s take a look at where LSU’s class stands now.

On3: 11th

247Sports: 12th

The loss of Evans knocked LSU’s class out of the top 10, but the Tigers are in pursuit of top 100 wide receiver [autotag]Dre’lon Miller[/autotag], who decommitted from Texas A&M after a visit to Baton Rouge.

A commitment from Miller would put LSU back in the top 10.

NEW: LSU lands 3-star cornerback who recently decommitted from Ole Miss

The Tigers completed the flip of former Ole Miss cornerback commit Bernard Causey on Tuesday afternoon.

As was largely expected, LSU completed the flip of three-star cornerback [autotag]Bernard Causey[/autotag] from Ole Miss.

The New Orleans John F. Kennedy prospect ranks just outside the top 1,000 nationally according to both 247Sports and On3’s industry rankings, but clearly, the Tigers see some things they like.

Causey decommitted from Ole Miss on Monday night, and the Tigers immediately received a flood of predictions for the in-state prospect. He ultimately announced his commitment to LSU less than 24 hours later on Tuesday afternoon.

He committed to Ole Miss back in June, but he received an offer from LSU on Sept. 27 that obviously changed things.

Causey’s commitment helps offset some recent losses in the 2024 class, including four-star cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag], who recently flipped to Georgia. LSU now has 25 commits in a class that currently ranks 11th nationally per On3 and 12th per 247Sports.

NEW: LSU loses a 2024 commit to SEC foe

For the second day in a row, LSU has lost a commitment from the 2024 recruiting class.

For the second day in a row, LSU has lost a commitment from the 2024 recruiting class. This time, it was a four-star cornerback who flipped from LSU to SEC foe Georgia.

[autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound, four-star cornerback from Nashville, Tennessee. Evans committed to LSU on June 15 after taking an official visit to Baton Rouge. Four months later, Evans took an official visit to Athens, Georgia, and he committed to the Bulldogs on that visit.

LSU’s 2024 recruiting class had risen as high as the No. 6 class in the country according to On3 but after two decommitments in two days (the other being from four-star receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag]), the Tigers have fallen out of the top 10. There is plenty of time for [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] to pull this class back together but as of now, it feels like the class is ripping apart at the seams.

LSU will host Army this weekend for homecoming in Baton Rouge.

Social media reacts: Georgia flips 4-star LSU commit

Georgia football fans were fired up after four-star cornerback Ondre Evans’ committed to UGA

Ondre Evans plays high school football for Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Evans is ranked as the No. 106 recruit in the class of 2024. Evans is considered to be the No. 10 cornerback and the No. 1 recruit in Tennessee, per 247Sports.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback is Georgia’s gain and LSU’s loss. The Bulldogs have 27 commitments in the class of 2024 and the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation. LSU has the No. 12 recruiting class in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Georgia football flips 4-star DB Ondre Evans

Speedy 4-star DB Ondre Evans flips to Georgia football

Four-star defensive back recruit Ondre Evans has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. Evans was committed to the LSU Tigers and elected to flip his commitment to Georgia.

Evans committed to LSU in June, but has changed his mind on the Tigers.

The four-star prospect plays high school football for Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Evans is ranked as the No. 106 recruit in the class of 2024. Evans is rated as the No. 10 cornerback and the top recruit in Tennessee, per 247Sports.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback also runs track and field at a very high level. Ondre Evans holds a wealth of scholarship offers and is an explosive athlete.

Georgia football has the No. 1 class of 2024 in the country. The Bulldogs hold commitments from 27 recruits, including five-star cornerback Ellis Robinson. Georgia has three commitments at cornerback in the class of 2024.

Defensive backs coach Fran Brown played a large role in landing a commitment from Ondre Evans. Ondre Evans has outstanding speed. In fact, he set the Christ Presbyterian Academy school record with a 10.55 second 100-meter dash.

The elite defensive back recruit announced his commitment to Georgia football via social media:

Georgia continues to recruit the cornerback position at an elite level.

Elite Louisiana cornerback Wardell Mack commits to Florida

LSU lost out on one of the top players in the state of Louisiana.

LSU lost out on one of the top players in the state of Louisiana in the 2024 cycle on Friday as four-star Marrero (La.) John Ehret cornerback [autotag]Wardell Mack[/autotag] committed to coach Billy Napier and the Florida Gators.

Mack ranks as the No. 72 player nationally and No. 2 player in the state of Louisiana, according to On3. It’s a tough loss, but it’s softened by the fact that the Tigers already have a top-100 cornerback on board in [autotag]Cai Bates[/autotag].

Still, it’s a bit disappointing that the Tigers have struggled to land the top players in the state in this cycle. LSU boasts commitments from eight of the top-10 players in Louisiana, but with Mack committing to Florida and No. 1 prospect [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag] trending toward Texas, it seems like LSU is poised to miss on the two best prospects in the state.

In addition to Bates, LSU has commitments from cornerbacks [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag], [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag] and [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag] in the 2024 cycle.

5-star cornerback announces his final five schools

The No. 2 cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class has trimmed his list of possible destinations down to five.

The No. 2 cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class has trimmed his list of possible destinations down to his final five schools. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has LSU in the running to land him.

[autotag]Kobe Black[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, four-star cornerback from Waco, Texas, where he plays for Connally High School. The Connally Cadets finished the 2022 season 9-3 with a loss to Hamshire-Fannett in the second round of the UIL 4A D2 playoffs.

Black has trimmed his list of schools down to LSU, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Texas. The Texas Longhorns received a Crystal Ball projection to land him back in June and the Longhorns are a 92% favorite to land him per On3.

LSU currently has four cornerback commits for the 2024 recruiting class ([autotag]Cai Bates[/autotag], [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] and [autotag]Wallace Foster[/autotag]). Two of those guys are four-stars and the other two are three-stars. Black is a five-star and the No. 2 cornerback overall so if he were to commit he would further bolster how good this class is.
