Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 41

Today’s installment focuses on the 10 players who wore No. 41 over the years as of Aug. 2023.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history of interest tied to them.

In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball played in them, their unretired jersey numbers pack in some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league. To that end, we have launched our accounting of that history, with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

Today’s installment focuses on the 10 players who wore No. 41 over the years as of Sep. 2023.

Who are the best international players to play for the Boston Celtics?

From Charlie Hoefer to Alaa Abdenaby to Rick Fox to Kristaps Porzingis, there has been no shortage of players who were born abroad who have worn the green and white.

The Boston Celtics are a storied franchise for more than just their titles. They have been a trailblazing team in terms of signing and fielding players from all over the world, a philosophy that started in their first season.

From Charlie Hoefer to Alaa Abdelnaby to Rick Fox to Kristaps Porzingis, there has been no shortage of players born abroad who have worn the green and white.

But who were the best and who were the worst? What criteria should we use to judge them across eras? In the spirit of the annual arrival of #RankingSeason, the thing to do is try.

And try the hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” did on a recent episode.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear how they assessed the international Celtics of all time.

On this day: Avery traded; Olynyk, Knight signed; Barnett, Simmons born; Wallace passes

On this date in 2017, the Boston Celtics traded veteran guard Avery Bradley to the Detroit Pistons for forward Marcus Morris.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, veteran combo guard Avery Bradley was traded with draft assets to the Detroit Pistons for forward Marcus Morris Sr. as part of the process of making cap space on the roster after signing Utah Jazz Star Gordon Hayward in 2017.

Avery, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound native of Tacoma, Washington, was drafted by the Celtics out of the University of Texas with the 19th pick of the 2010 NBA draft. The former Longhorn quickly made a name for himself as one of the league’s best man-to-man defenders while coming up with the aging core of the 2008 title team.

In total, the former Texas standout played for the team for seven seasons, averaging 12.1 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 rebounds per game.

On this day: Kelly Olynyk, Gabe Pruitt, Jack Foley born; ‘Celtic Pride’ debuts

On this day, Kelly Olynyk, Gabe Pruitt, and Jack Foley were born, and the film ‘Celtic Pride’ came out.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, big man and future Celtic Kelly Olynyk would be born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1991, later moving west to Kamloops, British Columbia when he was in seventh grade.

Olynyk played his college ball at Gonzaga and was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft before being immediately dealt to the Celtics. Olynyk would make the 2013-14 All-Rookie team and would play for Boston for four seasons over which he averaged 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists.

The Canadian big man would leave the Celtics in free agency for the Miami Heat in the summer of 2017.

Four Boston Celtics on the move in 2013 NBA re-draft

Among the cadre of present and former Boston players, we see reserve guard Shane Larkin, backup big man Daniel Theis, reserve center Mike Muscala, and veteran big Kelly Olynyk all shift positions in terms of where they were actually drafted.

Hoops Hype’s Frank Urbina and Raul Barrigon are at it again with a redraft of the class of players who were in the 2013 NBA draft, and a number of Boston Celtics alumni saw their fortunes change in this hypothetical redux of the first draft of the Celtics’ post-Banner 17 rebuild.

Among the cadre of present and former Boston players, we see reserve guard Shane Larkin, backup big man Daniel Theis, reserve center Mike Muscala, and veteran big Kelly Olynyk all shift positions in terms of where they were actually drafted — or in some cases, passed over entirely by teams in control of a pick.

With all of that said, let’s see where this foursome of Celtics alumni has landed had the 2013 draft gone the way these two Hoops Hype analysts envision it would if held today.

The Boston Celtics have been extremely active on the trade market since Brad Stevens took over as president of basketball operations. They seem more likely than not to make a trade of some kind this week considering they’re one of the title favorites this year. The question is, do they make a marginal rotation upgrade or do they swing for something bigger?

As mentioned in this year’s HoopsHype trade guide, the Celtics have the means to get all sorts of trades done. They can move up to three first-round picks in 2025, 2027, and 2029, which they could use to acquire a starting-caliber player. They also have several second-round picks, including three in this year’s upcoming draft that they could part with for some bench reinforcements. Depending on their appetite to increase their $59 million luxury tax bill, they could absorb a player using their $5.9 million trade exception.

Below is a list of players they’ve been linked to and a potential framework for them.

Boston Celtics trade rumble heat check: Renewed interest in Kevin Durant? Grant Williams inquiries?

We’re taking the temperature on the most recent rumbles on what we’re hearing about Boston’s trade plans.

With the 2023 NBA trade deadline just days away from arriving, the Boston Celtics are finding themselves entangled in a number of trade rumors as they so often seem to be.

Some of them make all the sense in the world, some could if you squint very hard, and others simply make no sense whatsoever. So we decided to dive into the most current trade rumbles we have heard with ties to the Celtics ahead of the 3 pm ET moratorium on making deals in the 2022-23 NBA season on this coming Thu., Feb. 9, and grade them based on how likely we think there is to be some fire behind each instance of trade smoke.

So with all that said, let’s get started.

All the players linked to the Miami Heat in trade rumors

The Miami Heat are usually one of the more active teams ahead of the trade deadline every season. They’ve made a mid-season deal in each of the previous five years, ranging from small financially motivated deals to ones involving rotation players.

This season they seemed primed to at least make a small deal, such as one involving Dewayne Dedmon. As mentioned in HoopsHype’s trade guide, the Heat are just $192,895 below the luxury tax and could use some more breathing room so they can do other things around the margins, such as converting Orlando Robinson to a standard contract.

But knowing the Heat, they’ll always be in the mix for adding players who can improve the roster since they’ve been committed to chasing a title since bringing in Jimmy Butler. Depending on the player, they will have the challenge of coming up with a framework that sends trade partners assets while also remaining below the luxury tax. Miami can trade up to three first-round picks now which are likely reserved for an All-Star pursuit. They also have just three second-round picks to offer in smaller scaled deals.

Below is a list of players they’ve been linked to and what a potential framework for them could look like.

Trade rumor rankings: Kyrie Irving, Bones Hyland and more

HoopsHype ranks the 10 players who have appeared most often in trade rumors over the previous week, led by Kyrie Irving.

With under a week remaining until the 2022-23 NBA trade deadline, we have come back with another edition of our trade rumors rankings series, in which we rank the 10 players who have appeared most often in trade rumors over the prior week.

This week was headlined by a star player asking out from his team for what feels like the 10th time in the past year-plus.

With so many players to discuss, let’s get right into the action below.

Report: Celtics eyeing Kelly Olynyk as possible trade target

A recent report suggests the Boston Celtics may be interested in a deal to bring Kelly Olynyk back to Boston.

The Boston Celtics may be the best team in the league, but that doesn’t mean the club isn’t looking to improve ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

One recent report suggested Boston may be seeking a reunion with a familiar name. According to Steve Bulpett of Heavy, the Celtics are considering making a move to bring big man Kelly Olynyk back to the Hub. Boston selected Olynyk with the No. 13 pick in the 2013 draft, and the Canadian spent his first four years as a pro in Celtic green.

Olynyk now plays for the Utah Jazz. And although the Celtics are joined by the Miami Heat in pursuing a potential deal, Bulpett reported his sources aren’t convinced a deal gets done.

“Olynyk is a guy they have interest in, but I doubt if that will happen,” a source told Heavy. “Both teams that have had Olynyk have interest in getting him back, but I don’t think that that’ll happen, just like I don’t think (a move for San Antonio’s Jakob) Poeltl will happen, either.”

The NBA trade deadline is Thursday, Feb. 9.
