Injury Report: Oshae Brissett questionable for Celtics vs. Mavericks

Oshae Brissett is questionable for the Boston Celtics game against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Due to personal reasons, Oshae Brissett has been listed as questionable for the Boston Celtics game against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday (March 1). Outside of the energetic wing, the Celtics have a clean bill of health. As such, their primary rotation will be at full strength when Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving visit the TD Garden.

Dallas has won eight of their last 10 games and looked like a vastly improved team since adding PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford at the trade deadline. With that in mind, the Celtics will face a stern test as they bid to win their 10th straight game and continue setting the pace in the Eastern Conference.

Brissett has played a total of four minutes and forty eight seconds over the past three games, so his absence shouldn’t be too much of a blow for the Celtics coaching staff. However, he does provide energy and has proven capable of swinging momentum in close games.

Should Brissett be officially ruled out, it will be interesting to see who Joe Mazzulla turns to if the Celtics find themselves needing an energy boost off the bench.

Oshae Brissett is providing a behind-the-scenes look at the Celtics roster

The Boston Celtics forward revealed why he documents his life as an NBA role player for his social media following.

Oshae Brissett has slowly begun cracking the Boston Celtics roster. The energetic wing, who is in his fifth NBA season, has proven himself to be a spark plug off the bench. Brissett is viewed as a potential energy shifter on nights when the Celtics look flat, especially in terms of rebounding and on-ball defense.

As such, Brissett remained with the team beyond the February 8 trade deadline. However, he’s also providing value to Celtics fans in other ways. Brissett has been documenting his life on his social media channels, including some behind-the-scenes content with the Celtics.

During a recent interview with NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin, Brissett discussed his reasons for showcasing what it’s like to be an NBA role player. He also discussed why he remains active on social media when most other players stay away from the negativity.

In typical Brissett fashion, he also gave a bit more information as he detailed his relationship with Joe Mazzulla and what it’s like to play for the Celtic’s head coach.

Celtics Lab 238: A deep dive into the deep rotation’s Stay Ready Crew with Noa Dalzell

Which players matter most to the team’s title aspirations? Which might be on the move ahead of the 2024 NBA trade deadline? What talent does Boston have in the pipeline in Maine? And who will see the floor in the postseason?

The Boston Celtics have by most accounts the best top six players in the entire NBA to match their league-best regular season record. So, it can be easy to forget about the rest of the team. The so-called “Stay Ready Crew” mostly does just that — keep themselves in the right frame of mind and state of health in case their number is called.

And those numbers do get called, with players like Oshae Brissett and Lamar Stevens bringing energy and matchup-dependent options that have sparked wins for Boston, while the sharpshooting duo of Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser wreak havoc on opposing defenses. And if it were not for the likes of Luke Kornet and Neemias Queta defying expectations as reserve big men, you can be sure there would be less wins to the Celtics’ name this season.

Which players matter most to the team’s title aspirations? Which might be on the move ahead of the 2024 NBA trade deadline? What talent does Boston have in the pipeline in Maine? And who will see the floor in the postseason?

To answer all of these key questions not quite getting the attention they deserve, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with Celtics Blog’s Noa Dalzell.

The self-proclaimed Boston bench beat reporter who has a bead on a certain crew that stays ready, join us in a deep dive into the Celtics’ reserves. (Apologies for variable audio, wifi issues made for a few bumps).

Boston’s Oshae Brissett, Dalano Banton discuss Toronto’s food, fashion and culture

The Canadians recently took some time to talk about their hometown.

The Boston Celtics are a little further north than usual this season, at least in the sense that they happen to have a pair of Toronto natives on their roster this season. Forwards Oshae Brissett and Dalano Banton have become part of the culture of this season’s Celtics, but also bring their own culture from north of the border.

The Canadians recently took some time to talk about their hometown’s food, fashion, and culture for the benefit of Bostonians and Celtics fans from further afield to highlight aspects of their background we might otherwise miss. As Brissett said, “Like how I dress, people would say that I dress like a Toronto man.”

They even break down what poutine is, though they do not necessarily both share the strong affection for the dish seen in many Canadians.

Celtics forward Oshae Brissett is always ready when his number is called

“You go out there and try to win the game because that’s what the Celtics are all about,” said Brissett.

How does Boston Celtics reserve forward Oshae Brissett approach trying to fight for minutes on a loaded team with designs on title contention? “By any means necessary — you go out there and try to win the game because that’s what the Celtics are all about,” said the man himself for a recent clip put together by the team.

Brissett may not get regular floor time with the Celtics, but that doesn’t mean he is as up and down as his minutes may be — in fact, quite the opposite. The Canadian swingman puts all his energy and focus on the floor when his number is called, making him at the top of head coach Joe Mazzulla’s list of players to go to when the contest needs an injection of controlled chaos.

In that Celtics’produced clip, Brissett shares that “having that confidence in myself lets me know that, ‘Okay, my opportunity’s going to come.'”

Celtics’ Oshae Brissett is earning praise from teammates and opposing coaches

Despite facing challenges as a less reliable shot from beyond the arc, Brissett has found ways to contribute to winning.

In recent games, reserve forward Oshae Brissett has emerged as a key rotation player for the Boston Celtics, drawing praise from teammates and coaches alike. Despite facing challenges as a less reliable shot from beyond the arc, Brissett has found ways to contribute to winning with his hustle, his second efforts, offensive rebounding, and overall energy.

His defensive intensity is another area where the Canadian forward has shone in his limited run with the team. Teammates like Jaylen Brown have made a point of praising his toughness and defensive focus in recent contests, and his passing game has been improving as well. Even opposing head coaches like Rick Carlisle of the Indiana Pacers — Brissett’s former ball club — have made a point of praising the Syracuse alum’s game.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast took a closer look at Brissett’s improved play in recent contests on their latest episode.

Boston’s Oshae Brissett is emerging as the ideal backup wing

Oshae Brissett’s emergence off the bench could stop the Boston Celtics from making a trade before the February 8 deadline.

The Boston Celtics have an open roster spot. As we head toward the February 8 trade deadline, most Celtics fans expect Brad Stevens to make a small move to add some additional depth to Joe Mazzulla‘s rotation. During a recent media availability, Stevens noted how the Celtics would likely target a wing with size should they decide to make a trade.

However, Boston already has that type of wing on their roster, and he’s currently staking his claim for a bigger role in the rotation. Oshae Brissett has proven himself to be a high-energy role player off the bench who can make an impact on defense with a brash and in-your-face style of play. Yes, he may struggle on offense, yet his upside as an energy guy is clear for everyone to see.

In a recent episode of the “Green With Envy” podcast, the hosts discuss whether Brissett’s emergence off the bench will deter Stevens from making a move and potentially parting with some tradable assets.

Boston could look to fill their final bench spot by converting a two-way player contract or adding someone via free agency. Brissett has likely done enough to cement himself as a potential member of the rotation for the remainder of the season.

What does Oshae Brissett need to do to earn a bigger role with the Boston Celtics?

Shoot better — but also find a way to get the chance to.

Why aren’t we seeing more of reserve Boston Celtics forward Oshae Brissett? With the team’s forward rotation fairly thin after Boston’s twin All-NBA stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley asks why the team hasn’t leaned into Brissett more so far this season.

“Brissett has been unable to work himself into the nightly mix,” writes Buckley. “He hasn’t outright failed his assignment, it’s more like he hasn’t been given a chance to pass or fail.” And this hasn’t exactly been because he hasn’t helped the team play better when he has had a shot, but perhaps rather how he has done so. Brissett has “provided loads of energy and defense but almost zero offense,” shooting 44.0% from the field overall and just 27.3% from beyond the arc with the Celtics this season.

Is Brissett’s energy elsewhere enough to warrant more run and to hopefully get that shot back on track?

With Lamar Stevens the only deep rotation wing on Boston’s roster hitting at least a third of his triples, it seems probable Mazzulla will give limited run to not only the Syracuse alum but also Svi Mykhailiuk and Dalano Banton for the immediate future.

But if Brissett does replicate the level of efficiency from 3 he had in his second and third seasons where he connected 42.3% and 35% from deep on volume respectively, he could become a valuable part of the rotation.

Celtics’ Derrick White, Neemias Queta OUT vs. T-Wolves; Kristaps Porzingis, Oshae Brissett questionable

Boston also listed Oshae Brissett as questionable with a sprained left thumb, and two way big man Neemias Queta as out with what the team is billing as “right foot injury management”.

The Boston Celtics will be down at least one key player to face the Minnesota Timberwolves and could be without two starters depending on how Kristaps Porzingis feels ahead of tipoff, with the Celtics sharing that the Latvian big man is dealing with a right eye stye that has him listed as questionable for Boston’s road tilt with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.

Guard Derrick White will miss the game, his second consecutive absence, for personal reasons likely related to the birth of his second child. White has not missed a game since the birth of his last child as something of an ironman for the team.

Has Oshae Brissett earned a bench role with the Boston Celtics?

Boston’s performance in a 119-111 victory over the Miami Heat that desperately needed the energy and rebounding he brought to bear in the win.

Boston Celtics reserve forward Oshae Brissett patiently awaited his debut with the team, and when the moment finally arrived on this past Friday night, the Canadian swingman seized it with vigor, igniting Boston’s performance in a 119-111 victory over the Miami Heat that desperately needed the energy and rebounding he brought to bear in the win.

As the Celtics found themselves lacking energy in the game’s first quarter, Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla turned to the newly acquired free agent forward, and he delivered and then some, with Mazzulla and several teammates crediting Brisset’s play with salvaging what could have been an early loss in their 2023-24 campaign.

Join CLNS Media reporters Bobby Manning and Josue Pavon as they dive into Brissett’s impactful debut and its significance in the game on a recent episode of the “Garden Report” podcast.
