Dallas Mavericks forward Grant WIlliams becomes fifth Boston Celtics alum traded on 2024 NBA deadline

Williams joins Gordon Hayward, Dennis Schroder, Kelly Olynyk, and Evan Fournier among Boston alums dealt today.

A fifth former Boston Celtics alumnus is on the move today. Ex-Celtics forward Grant Williams is reportedly joining the likes of Gordon Hayward (from the Charlotte Hornets to the Oklahoma City Thunder), Dennis Schroder (from the Toronto Raptors to the Brooklyn Nets), Evan Fournier (from the New York Knicks to the Detroit Pistons), and Kelly Olynyk (from the Utah Jazz to the Raptors) in being dealt today.

Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Williams is being sent by the Dallas Mavericks to his hometown’s Charlotte with guard Seth Curry, and a lightly protected 2027 first round pick for Hornets power forward PJ Washington.

The Celtics have had conflicting reports whether they will conduct any further business before the 3 p.m. ET moratorium for moving plays this season arrives, but Boston will be facing a number of former players on new teams in the near future regardless.

Four Boston Celtics alumni on the move on the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline

There has not been much action on trade deadline day for the Boston Celtics after having dealt for Memphis Grizzlies big man Xavier Tillman, Sr. the day before, but four former Celtics are on the move.

There has not been much action on trade deadline day for the Boston Celtics after having dealt for Memphis Grizzlies big man Xavier Tillman, Sr. the day before, but four former Celtics are on the move. One of the four, former Celtics center Kelly Olynyk, has been traded from the Utah Jazz with “guard Ochai Agbaji to the Toronto Raptors for Kira Lewis, Otto Porter and a 2024 first-round pick,” according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The other, former Boston forward Gordon Hayward, has been dealt from the Charlotte Hornets to the Oklahoma City Thunder for guard Tre Mann and forward Davis Bertans, wing Vasilije Micic and draft compensation, also reported by Wojnarowski.

The third is onetime Celtics floor general Dennis Schroder, who is being flipped with Thad Young by the Toronto Raptors for Spencer Dinwiddie, again per Woj.

Finally, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that former Boston wing Evan Fournier is part of a package including Quentin Grimes, Malachi Flynn and two second round picks that the New York Knicks are sending to the Detroit Pistons for Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks.

Trade rumors: Warriors show interest in Jazz center Kelly Olynyk

The Warriors are reportedly showing interest in a veteran big man from the Utah Jazz.

As the trade deadline creeps up, different names and rumors are starting to be connected to the Golden State Warriors.

In an appearance on “SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt,” ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski mentioned Utah Jazz center Kelly Olynyk as a player the Warriors could pursue.

Via @wojespn on X:

Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports also mentioned Olynyk as a player the Warriors have shown interest in. The Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers have also shown interest in the former Gonzaga big man, per Fischer.

In his 10th season, the former first-round pick out of Gonzaga is averaging 8.1 points on 56.2% from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc. Olynyk is adding 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 20.4 minutes off the bench.

The Canadian big man would provide the Warriors with some much-needed size and floor spacing in a frontcourt that features Kevon Looney, Dario Saric and rookie Trayce Jackson-Davis.

The trade deadline is Thursday, Feb. 9, at noon PT.

Celtics rumored to be interested in Kelly Olynyk, Delon Wright, Andre Drummond as trade targets

A number of intriguing players have been linked to the Celtics.

The rumor mill is heating up as the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline draws nearer to the Feb. 8 cutoff on moving players between teams. A number of intriguing players have been linked to the Boston Celtics as that team looks to bolster its bench rotation ahead of the 2024 NBA playoffs.

Former Celtics like Utah Jazz center Kelly Olynyk have reportedly been of interest for the Celtics, but his contract structure would make for a difficult swap. Others, like Washington Wizards guard Delon Wright, make enough that a deal would be hard — but not impossible. Still others, like Chicago Bulls veteran big man Andre Drummond, are affordable and perhaps gettable, but are likely to have plenty of other suitors to beat out.

The hosts of NBC Sports Boston’s “Arbella Early Edition” linked up with the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn to talk over Boston trade buzz.

Ranking the top 5 Thunder targets ahead of trade deadline

Ranking the top 5 Thunder targets ahead of trade deadline.

The NBA trade deadline is a little over a day away, which means the Oklahoma City Thunder could soon welcome new additions to their roster.

The Thunder (35-16) are in the thick of the race for the first seed as the All-Star break approaches. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has played like an MVP candidate; Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams help carve out an impressive trio.

This means this will be the first deadline OKC will be viewed as buyers in quite some time as it prepares for its first playoffs since 2020.

Odds are, the Thunder won’t make any drastic moves to the roster by Feb. 8. If OKC makes a deal, it’ll likely be to strengthen its depth and help fix some of its rebounding woes.

Entering the deadline, the Thunder are wealthy in trade capital — they have several young prospects they could trade along with an unending supply of draft picks.

If the Thunder wanted to, they could outbid anybody in the league for someone’s services.

Thunder Wire is ranking the top five trade targets for the Thunder as the trade deadline approaches:

Celtics linked to three names in trade rumors ahead of NBA’s 2024 deadline

The 2024 NBA trade deadline is nearly upon us.

The 2024 NBA trade deadline is nearly upon us, and with it comes endless trade speculation and a constant churning of the rumor mill. Also known as “silly season” due to the high volume of rumors floating around with an agenda, separating fact from fiction is easier said than done.

And such was the case with a recent set of trade rumors connected to the Boston Celtics that suggested the Celtics have an interest in a trio of players that at least from a fit point of view makes sense for Boston. But when one starts looking into how such a trade might actually go down in the real world, it becomes clear that some of those rumors are more likely to become reality than others.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” and “Talkin’ Cs” podcasts sat down to talk through that trio of rumored Celtics targets and their plausibility, as well as getting caught up on the news.

Report: Boston Celtics ‘expressed interest’ in Kelly Olynyk, Delon Wright, Andre Drummond as trade targets

Boston is reportedly looking to bolster its bench.

The NBA’s 2024 trade deadline is just days away, with rumbles about what the Boston Celtics starting to warm up as the proximity grows. The Celtics have reportedly “expressed interest in a wide range of trade targets, including Kelly Olynyk, Delon Wright, Andre Drummond, and others,” according to new reporting from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

“The Celtics are looking to package some of their minimum contract players at the end of the rotation and draft pick compensation to bolster their bench heading into the playoffs,” notes the H/H reporter. “Drummond would fit the parameters of Boston’s current compensation package above, while Olynyk and Wright would likely cost more.”

As Scotto alludes, a Boston trade for Olynyk is functionally impossible given it would take one of the Celtics’ core players to match his $12.2 million in salary.

Wright, earning $8.1 million this season, is an unrealistic option for Boston for similar reasons.

Report: Utah’s Kelly Olynyk, Washington’s Daniel Gafford are on short list of Rockets’ trade targets

Utah’s Kelly Olynyk and Washington’s Daniel Gafford appear to be on a short list of big-man targets for the Rockets at the trade deadline.

With the Jazz (22-21) in town Saturday to face the Rockets at Toyota Center, could veteran big man Kelly Olynyk be auditioning for a role with the Rockets (19-21) next month?

According to Matt Moore of The Action Network, Olynyk is on a short list of potential center targets for Rockets general manager Rafael Stone. Washington’s Daniel Gafford is another option, and talks are likely to pick up as the Feb. 8 in-season trade deadline nears.

Now 32 years old, the 6-foot-11 Olynyk is having another productive year in Utah, where he’s averaging 8 points (54.6% FG, 41.7% on 3-pointers), 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 20.9 minutes per game.

Olynyk isn’t a particularly strong defensive big man, but he’s among the best when it comes to shooting and playmaking at the position. That could be a good fit for a Houston team that is already familiar with that archetype given its starter is Alperen Sengun.

Olynyk is in the final season of his contract ($12.2-million salary in 2023-24) with the Jazz. Thus, even though he’s a productive player for a Utah team that is exceeding expectations, it could make sense for the Jazz to extract some value for Olynyk rather than risk him leaving for no compensation in 2024 free agency.

Olynyk played 27 games with the Rockets after the 2020-21 in-season trade deadline, averaging 19.0 points (54.5% FG, 39.2% on 3-pointers), 8.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 31.1 minutes.

As for Gafford, the 6-foot-10 center is averaging 10.4 points (68.5% FG), 7.6 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 26.1 minutes. Unlike Olynyk, Gafford would be more of a contrast to Sengun; his attributes include strong athleticism, rim protection on defense, and potential as a lob threat on offense. He’s not nearly the shooter or facilitator.

Now 25 years old, Gafford is under contract through the 2025-26 season at an average of just over $13 million per year.

Former Celtic Kelly Olynyk and wife embarked on good samaritan deed during Christmas

Kelly Olynyk and his wife had a Christmas to remember, for all the right reasons.

Kelly Olynyk and his wife, Jackie, helped spread some Christmas cheer during the holiday season. The pair stumbled across a stray dog while out for lunch in Austin, Texas. After being unable to find a shelter with enough space to house the dog, the former Boston Celtics big man and his wife were able to locate an emergency clinic and get the owner’s details via its microchip.

However, things didn’t go according to plan. After driving to the registered address of the stray pooch, Olynyk and his wife found out that the address details were outdated.

“We’re like, we have the address!,” Olynyk told Eric Walden of the Salt Lake City Tribune. “So we then drive to this person’s address, and we knock on the door, and we’re like, ‘Hey, I think we found your dog.’ And they’re like, ‘Uh, I don’t have a dog,’” Olynyk recalled. “We’re like, ‘Oh, are you so and so?’ They’re like, ‘No, and I’ve lived here for four years. It’s not me.’”

Failing to be discouraged by their setback, the couple began to play detective. They had the owner’s name and former address, which could be enough to find time via social media.

Should the Boston Celtics trade for Kelly Olynyk?

Olynyk’s expiring contract and seemingly expressed interest in returning to Boston have stirred discussions about a possible reunion

The Boston Celtics are facing decisions as the trade deadline approaches, with speculation surrounding potential moves to strengthen their roster having recently been clarified by Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens.

One name that has surfaced in trade talks is Utah Jazz big man Kelly Olynyk, a former Celtic enjoying a career-efficient season in Salt Lake City. Despite the Celtics’ current confidence in their center rotation, Olynyk’s expiring contract and seemingly expressed interest in returning to Boston have stirred discussions about a possible reunion with the Celtics. What would it take for Boston to get such a deal done, and would it make sense for all parties to pull the trigger on a trade to bring the Olynyk Klynyk back home?

In their latest “Garden Report” podcast, CLNS Media’s Bobby Manning and Josue Pavon delve into the possibility of the Celtics trading for the Gonzaga alum.
