Seahawks tender restricted free agents CB Mike Jackson and LB Jon Rhattigan

They have used a fifth-round tender on cornerback Mike Jackson and a right of first refusal tender for linebacker Jon Rhattigan.

The new league year is now officially official, and with it comes a flurry of transactions and personnel news.

A couple notes for Seattle just dropped via Tom Pelissero at NFL Network. The Seahawks have tendered two of their restricted free agents this year. They have used a fifth-round tender on cornerback Mike Jackson and a right of first refusal tender for linebacker Jon Rhattigan.

Jackson was expected to maintain a regular starting role in 2023 after a strong preseason showing. However, once Devon Witherspoon debuted Jackson quickly got lost in the shuffle in what’s become one of the deepest cornerback rooms in the NFL. Tre Brown and Artie Burns also both ended up passing him up on the depth chart.

Jackson wound up playing all 17 games but only earned four starts. He totaled 34 tackles and allowed zero touchdowns and a 95.1 passer rating in coverage. In the end, Jackson was on the field for 40% of the team’s defensive snaps and 51% on special teams.

Rhattigan also appeared in every game this past season for Seattle, but was relegated to an almost exclusive special teams role. He only played 19 defensive snaps on the year, or 2% of the team’s total. On special teams he was out there for 303 snaps, or 66%.

Looking ahead, both should at least continue to see significant playing time on special teams in 2024. Aside from that, it’s difficult to envision serious snaps on defense for either barring a string of injuries.

Seahawks LB Jon Rhattigan designated to return to practice

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jon Rhattigan has been designated to return to practice following the knee injury that ended his rookie season.

The Seattle Seahawks resumed practice this week following their bye and so did a player who’d sat out all season. On Tuesday, linebacker Jon Rhattigan was designated to return.

“Well, Jonny Rhattigan is coming back today,” coach Pete Carroll said during his press conference. “He’ll be back out practicing. We’re really fired up that he has made it through his recovery and all that. This is his first day back, so we are kind of celebrating that first of all.”

Rhattigan originally joined the Seahawks out of Army as an undrafted free agent last year, but his rookie season was cut short by a knee injury.

“He’s a really good football player,” Carroll explained. “He’s just a good all-around ball player. It might be his upbringing, I don’t know. He’s really instinctive, he’s tough, he’s a smart player. We’ve missed him in the depth at the linebacker spot, but he’s really made his mark in special teams, and we are really hoping in getting him back out there.”

Rhattigan can practice for up to three weeks before activation onto the 53-man roster.

Seahawks sign another RB, place LB Jon Rhattigan on PUP list

The Seahawks announced two roster moves today.

The Seahawks announced two roster moves today.

Undrafted rookie running back Ronnie Rivers has been signed. He played his college football at Fresno State, where he totaled 40 rushing touchdowns and 3,417 yards in 52 games. He got several offers from NFL teams to attend rookie minicamp, eventually settling on the Cardinals. However, Arizona released him as part of their cuts from 90 down to 85 players.

Rivers (5-foot-9, 195 pounds) gives Seattle’s backfield more depth while top-two options Rashaad Penny (groin) and Ken Walker (hernia) are out. The team has one more preseason game to go and they likely don’t want another injury at this spot to affect their plans for the regular season.

To make room for Rivers on the roster, linebacker Jon Rhattigan was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Rhattigan is still recovering from the season-ending knee injury he suffered late last year. He will be required to miss the first four games of the 2022 season.

The list includes backup strong safety Ryan Neal, core special teamers/linebackers Tanner Muse and Jon Rhattigan, cornerback Nigel Warrior and offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley.

Additionally, Bob Condotta at the Seattle Times notes that wide receiver Penny Hart and defensive tackle Bryan Mone are also listed as having been tendered at Over the Cap.

As of yet, the Seahawks have not been reported to be signing any incoming free agents from other teams. They have re-signed several of their own pending unrestricted free agents, though – including free safety Quandre Diggs, defensive tackle Al Woods and tight end Will Dissly.

So far, the only Seattle player who’s joining another squad is their utility backup offensive lineman Jamarco Jones, who intends to sign with the Tennessee Titans on a two-year deal.

Seahawks roster tracker: C Ethan Pocic to IR, LB Jon Rhattigan signed to 53-man roster

Here’s a rundown of Seattle’s transactions.

The Seattle Seahawks made several changes to their roster today. As reported yesterday by NFL Network, rookie linebacker Jon Rhattigan has been officially signed to the 53-man roster after being activated for last week’s game. That’s one of several moves the team has announced.

Here’s a rundown of Seattle’s transactions.

LB Jon Rhattigan signed to active roster

Rhattigan played most of the Seahawks’ special teams snaps against the Colts and provides extra depth at linebacker – which is a thin spot if you’re not counting edge defenders like Alton Robinson and Darrell Taylor.

C Ethan Pocic to injured reserve

Kyle Fuller has won the center competition by default. Fuller and Pocic traded snaps on Sunday in Indianapolis until Pocic left with a knee sprain. Now, Pocic is going on IR.

Three practice squad signings

The team also added three new players to their practice squad, all of whom came in for a visit on Tuesday. Wide receiver De’Quan Hampton, tight end Michael Jacobson and receiver Connor Wedington are signing. Free agent outside linebacker Jachai Polite also visited but will not be joining the practice squad again at this time.

G Jordan Simmons signs with Raiders

The practice squad also lost a key member, with their young guard Jordan Simmons getting signed by the Raiders, who are fresh off a thrilling overtime win on Monday Night Football.

The Seattle Seahawks have made a couple of moves ahead of tomorrow’s season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

First, linebacker Jon Rhattigan (six-foot, 236 pounds) has been activated from the practice squad and promoted to the 53-man roster. Rhattigan is a graduate of West Point and an undrafted rookie. His presence gives Seattle a little more depth at the linebacker position, as there were only three on the active roster – four if you count converted fullback Nick Bellore.

The Seahawks also released tight end DeShon Williams from the practice squad. He played his college football at Washington.
