Chiefs designate TE Blake Bell to return from injured reserve

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially designated TE Blake Bell to return from injured reserve per the NFL’s daily personnel notice.

Bell was spotted back at practice on Tuesday, signifying the team had officially opened his practice window. The veteran tight end was placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 1 after he suffered a hip flexor injury during the preseason tilt with the Chicago Bears.

The team maintained that Bell had a chance to return from the injury at some point this season. He missed the first 15 weeks of the season recovering from the hip injury, but he returns at the perfect time with TE Jody Fortson suffering an elbow subluxation. Now, Bell will have a chance to come back and contribute for the stretch run.

Bell appeared in all 16 regular season games with the Chiefs last season, catching nine passes for 87 yards. He also had four carries for 10 yards and four first downs on the season. That’s a part of his presence that the team has sorely missed, as they’re one of the worst in the league this season at converting on third-and-short.

Remember, being designated to return doesn’t mean that Bell is returning to the 53-man roster for the upcoming Week 16 game against the Seattle Seahawks. When a team designates a player to return from injured reserve it opens a 21-day practice window where they can begin practicing with the team. Bell still needs to be activated to the team’s 53-man roster. If he isn’t activated by the end of that 21-day window he’ll remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Seahawks LB Jon Rhattigan designated to return to practice

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Jon Rhattigan has been designated to return to practice following the knee injury that ended his rookie season.

The Seattle Seahawks resumed practice this week following their bye and so did a player who’d sat out all season. On Tuesday, linebacker Jon Rhattigan was designated to return.

“Well, Jonny Rhattigan is coming back today,” coach Pete Carroll said during his press conference. “He’ll be back out practicing. We’re really fired up that he has made it through his recovery and all that. This is his first day back, so we are kind of celebrating that first of all.”

Rhattigan originally joined the Seahawks out of Army as an undrafted free agent last year, but his rookie season was cut short by a knee injury.

“He’s a really good football player,” Carroll explained. “He’s just a good all-around ball player. It might be his upbringing, I don’t know. He’s really instinctive, he’s tough, he’s a smart player. We’ve missed him in the depth at the linebacker spot, but he’s really made his mark in special teams, and we are really hoping in getting him back out there.”

Rhattigan can practice for up to three weeks before activation onto the 53-man roster.

Seahawks activate cornerback Tre Brown from PUP List

The Seattle Seahawks have activated cornerback Tre Brown to the 53-man roster from the team’s Physically Unable to Perform List.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, including the activation of cornerback Tre Brown from the Physically Unable to Perform List.

Brown had been practicing for the last three weeks following his designation to return.

During his morning press conference, coach Pete Carroll had indicated Brown would be activated sooner than later.

“We’re looking towards that happening,” Carroll told reporters. “He’s done really well. He’s healthy, he’s ready to go. You’ll see us doing something with that.”

Brown fills the empty spot on the roster made available when Cullen Gillaspia was placed on injured reserve.

The Seahawks also announced the release of wide receiver Kevin Kassis from the practice squad.

Seahawks getting healthier entering 2nd half of season

The Seattle Seahawks are on the mend and expecting a number of injured players to return heading into the second half of the season.

The Seattle Seahawks have won three games in a row to lead the NFC West with a 5-3 record on the year. Coach Pete Carroll provided some additional good news during his Wednesday press conference – the team is getting healthier and should see the return of a number of players to start the second half of the season.

“We’re bouncing back here,” Carroll told reporters. “Cranked to get going here and I can feel a couple guys coming back to us. Hopefully, we can keep working on the health of the club and all.”

Carroll mentioned wide receiver Penny Hart and center Austin Blythe, in particular.

“There’s a chance that Penny Hart gets back out there and that’s a good boost,” Carroll continued. “Austin looks like he can work today so that’s a real positive for us. So we’ll see if we can keep building and get ready for a championship opportunity going down there in Arizona.”

In addition, cornerback Tre Brown has returned to practice and is expected to be activated back to the roster in the near future.

The first official practice report of the week will be released later this afternoon.

It’s ‘realistic’ Seahawks defensive end L.J. Collier will play Week 5

Designated to return to practice from the injured reserve, Seattle Seahawks defensive end L.J. Collier has a chance to play Week 5.

[autotag]The Seattle Seahawks revealed some good news on Wednesday when coach Pete Carroll provided an injury update on defensive end, L.J. Collier. Collier was designated to return to practice and has a chance to play Sunday in New Orleans against the Saints.

“Yes, it’s realistic,” Caroll told reporters during his press conference. “He’s got to put together a great week.”

Collier has been on the Seahawks’ injured reserve since the start of the season with an elbow injury. The defensive end had three weeks to practice before he needed to be activated, but he was called up sooner than later.

“Generally, we’d like to go a couple weeks getting the guy back,” Carroll continued. “He’s been working very hard and it’s an elbow injury. It’s not his legs and all that. He’s in really good shape right now. So, we got to see what happens though.

“We’ll see how the week goes.”

Jaguars designate TE Dan Arnold to return from injured reserve

Arnold could be back in action this week after missing the last three games.

Tight end has been a difficult position for Jacksonville to manage this year. The team lost James O’Shaughnessy in Week 2 for the bulk of the season, and it eventually acquired Dan Arnold from Carolina in the C.J. Henderson trade to help make up for it. Arnold has had a very solid season, becoming one of quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s favorite targets, but we haven’t had a chance to see the Jags’ tight end group at full strength for very long.

In O’Shaughnessy’s first game back from the injured reserve against the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 28, Arnold left the game with an injury of his own (Grade 2 MCL sprain) and was placed on the injured reserve.

Though the Jags’ season has torpedoed as the team now sits at 2-12, we may at least get to see O’Shaughnessy and Arnold play together, as the team designated the latter to return from the injured reserve on Wednesday.

That opens the door for Arnold to play on Sunday against the New York Jets, if his health allows. Since joining the Jaguars in Week 4, Arnold has started three games and made 28 catches for 324 yards. When adding his stats in the first three games with the Panthers, he is on pace to set a career-high in receiving yards if he plays in the final three games.

Once a player is designated to return from injured reserve, they have three weeks to be activated to the final roster. That said, with three weeks remaining in the regular season, Jags interim Darrell Bevell said the team wanted to make the designation to return for Arnold this week to keep his window to come back open.

“We’re opening up the window today to see where he’s at because there is only three weeks left in the season anyway,” Bevell said Wednesday. “He’s been doing a great job in rehab. He’s working his tail off and really wants to get back and help out. He feels like he can help Trevor [Lawrence], so we’re going to open it up and see what he can start doing.”

It would be a big boost. It really would. He’s a great talent for us and he has a lot of speed. I think it presents a problem to the defense, but we’ll just see how far he can come in the next days.”

There haven’t been many positives the last few weeks for the Jags, but getting Arnold back could provide a nice boost for Lawrence and the passing game, at the least.

Jags designate rookie DT Jay Tufele to return from injured reserve

The Jags could get a boost to their defensive line in the next couple weeks, as Tufele is eligible to return to the active roster.

Jacksonville will be getting some additional depth in an area where it’s very much needed. Rookie defensive tackle Jay Tufele, who has been on the injured reserve with a broken hand since Oct. 29, is designated to return and could theoretically be back as soon as this week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Tufele appeared in Week 5’s game against the Tennessee Titans, and he was supposed to be active for the game in London against the Miami Dolphins, but he broke his hand in pregame warmups and had to undergo surgery. Now, he is eligible to return to the active 53-man roster.

According to Big Cat Country’s Demetrius Harvey, Tufele was spotted at practice this past week sporting a cast and doing conditioning off to the side, but not much else. That would seem to indicate that Tufele isn’t especially likely to play on Sunday against Atlanta. The Jags have 21 days to activate him.

Tufele was expected to take on a bigger role before his injury with Taven Bryan struggling, but after Bryan’s improved play in recent weeks, Tufele may not see as much playing time. Regardless, the team has high expectations for Tufele, who was drafted in the fourth round with the 106th overall pick this past spring.

Chris Carson returns to practice, will be day to day this week

Seattle Seahawks Chris Carson, designated to return to practice, will be day to day ahead of the Week 10 matchup against the Packers.

The Seattle Seahawks designated running back Chris Carson for return to practice on Wednesday. Carson has been laid up on the injured reserve with a neck injury that has bothered him for some time.

Coach Pete Carroll was asked on Wednesday what it would take for Carson to play on Sunday in Green Bay against the Packers.

He has to make it through a week of work,” Carroll said. “Like we always talk about, it’s a one day at a time thing. He will get banged around a little bit tomorrow, but we have to see how he responds to it, it’s pretty important to get a good beat on this one. He will feel good physically running around because he’s in great shape and has been working really hard.

“It will just be about how he responds, the same old thing, how his body reacts to the workload.”

Carroll wouldn’t say whether or not Carson would be on a pitch count when he resumes work. The running back will need to be activated back to the 53-man roster before he can appear in a game.

“If he could make it back to play that would be a great asset to us,” Carroll said. “We have missed him for quite a while now.”

Rookie Dee Eskridge finally returns to practice after Week 1 concussion

Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Dee Eskridge has finally returned to practice after sustaining a concussion in the season opener.

The Seattle Seahawks designated three players to return to practice from the injured reserve on Monday, one of them being rookie wide receiver Dee Eskridge. Eskridge sustained a concussion in the Seahawks’ season opener and has remained on the IR ever since.

During his Monday afternoon press conference, coach Pete Carroll was asked how Eskridge looked on his first day back

I can’t tell you that right now,” Carroll told reporters. “He looked good running around today and that is all I know. Let’s see where he is tomorrow and the next day. These guys haven’t been here in a while, they’ve been working out hard, but they deserve a chance to get re-acclimated to football.

“In particular with a new guy, he hasn’t played very much with us, so let’s see.”

Eskridge, like Russell Wilson and Nigel Warrior who also returned to practice, will have to be activated back to the 53-man roster before he can appear in a game. With no plan to rush the rookie back, Carroll is just excited to see what his draft pick can do this season.

“He always does things well,” Carroll said. “He looks good, he’s explosive, he’s fast, he catches the ball, he’s quick, shifty, and all of that. Let’s see what happens and this was just a preliminary day of work, so I can’t take much away from that yet.”

Eskridge and the rest of the Seahawks have an off day before returning to practice on Wednesday to ready themselves to face the Packers on Sunday.

Seahawks designate Russell Wilson, Dee Eskridge, Nigel Warrior for return to practice

The Seattle Seahawks have officially designated QB Russell Wilson, WR Dee Eskridge and CB Nigel Warrior to return to practice from the IR.

Ahead of the Week 10 game against the Green Bay Packers, the Seattle Seahawks have officially designated quarterback Russell Wilson, rookie wide receiver Dee Eskridge and cornerback Nigel Warrior to return to practice.

Wilson, who was just medically cleared to play on Monday, missed the last three games following surgery on the middle finger of his throwing hand, Eskridge has been sidelined recovering from a concussion he suffered in the season opener, and Warrior has been on the IR since he was claimed via Baltimore at the start of September.

All three players remain on the team’s injured reserve and will need to be activated back to the 53-man roster to play on game day. Corresponding roster moves will need to be made to make room for any of the three to return to the active roster.
