Tracking what jersey numbers all the new Detroit Lions signees from the past few weeks are wearing

All of the injuries across the Detroit Lions defense have led to the addition of several recent reinforcements. The Lions have signed seven new defensive players in the last couple of weeks.

Between all the comings and goings from the Lions roster, it can be hard to keep up with who is on the field at times. In that spirit, here are the jersey numbers of all the recent defensive additions to the Lions roster, including the practice squad players who might be called up to play in Week 14 against the Packers.

LB Jamal Adams – 25*

Za’Darius Smith gets his Lions jersey number from a new teammate

Za’Darius Smith gets his familiar No. 99 jersey with the Lions and Brodric Martin changes his number

When new Lions defensive Za’Darius Smith makes his debut in Detroit’s Week 10 game in Houston on Sunday night, the veteran will be wearing his familiar jersey number. Smith, acquired in a trade on Tuesday from the Cleveland Browns, is listed on the Lions’ official roster as No. 99.

That number wasn’t immediately available when Smith joined the team. Defensive tackle Brodric Martin has been wearing No. 99, though Martin has yet to play in 2024. Martin, who wore No. 98 as a rookie in 2023, is now listed as No. 96. Injured DT Kyle Peko, who is out for the season, previously wore the 96 jersey.

No word on if Smith gave up anything to acquire the 99 jersey from Martin. The new No. 96 is in his second week of practicing after being designated to return from I.R.

Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins reveals NBA legend as inspiration for his jersey number

Kansas City #Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins reveals NBA legend Kobe Bryant as inspiration for his jersey number | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs made a significant addition to their wide receivers room with the recent trade for DeAndre Hopkins. He opened up to reporters on Thursday for the first time since the deal was finalized, giving Chiefs fans insight into his personality.

Hopkins, who wore jersey number ten throughout his career, will be sitting up with the number eight in Kansas City. Ten is occupied by injured starting running back Isiah Pacheco, while eight, previously worn by Justyn Ross, according to Hopkins, also holds much meaning in his life.

“Kobe Bryant, one of my favorite athletes of all time,” said Hopkins. “So I knew if I ever got the chance to wear number eight, you know, just like when I picked number 10, (Lionel) Messi was my favorite soccer player; underdog felt like me at the time coming out of college and, you know, Kobe, number eight, special, number.”

Many athletes in and outside the NFL relate to Hopkins’ admiration for the late NBA legend and five-time champion. The multiple-time All-Pro receiver hopes for championship credentials as he begins his tenure with the Chiefs.

Returning wide receiver Kaden Davis picked No. 81, which was previously worn by receiver Tre’Quan Smith last fall and by Tim Patrick before that.

LOOK: Wisconsin basketball releases jersey numbers for 2024-25 season

The Wisconsin men’s basketball program officially released each player’s jersey number ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Wisconsin welcomes six new faces to campus this fall after an offseason featuring a monumental shift in personnel.

Greg Gard and company added three top transfers: Central Arkansas guard Camren Hunter, Missouri guard John Tonje and Northern Illinois forward Xavier Amos.

The three will fill the voids left by star forward AJ Storr, fan-favorite point guard Chucky Hepburn and shooter Connor Essegian after the trio transferred to Kansas, Louisville and Nebraska, respectively.

Hunter, good for 16.9 points, 5 rebounds and 3.9 assists on 42% shooting and 31% from 3 as a sophomore in 2022-23, will wear No. 3 next season — Essegian’s former number with UW.

Amos, a stretch-forward who accounted for 13.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.3 blocks on 57% shooting and 38% from 3 in 2023-24 will wear No. 13 for Wisconsin this winter.

The Badgers’ final transfer, John Tonje, a reserve guard for Missouri in 2023-24 with 14.6-point, 4.7-rebounds and 1.3-assist averages at Colorado State under his belt in 2022-23, will wear No. 9.

Freshman Daniel Freitag, the No. 103 in class of 2024, No. 11 point guard, No. 3 from state of Minnesota will sport No. 5, the same number Tyler Wahl wore for five seasons.

Fellow newcomer Jack Robison, 247Sports’ No. 145 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 34 SF in the country and the No. 3 player in Minnesota, will suit up as No. 2. Superstar forward AJ Storr wore the jersey number last season for Wisconsin.

Serbian signee Andrija Vukovic will wear No. 19 this fall as well. His addition was Gard’s latest ahead of UW’s home opener in November.

#Falcons updated 90-man roster arranged by uniform number

The Atlanta Falcons announced another roster transaction on Tuesday, signing former Vikings cornerback Harrison Hand. The team released UDFA cornerback Anthony Sao in a corresponding move.

Hand has appeared in 27 games with two starts since being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. The former Temple standout has recorded 34 career tackles (28 solo), four passes defended and an interception over the last four seasons.

Check out the Falcons’ updated 90-man roster arranged by uniform number below:

Terrion Arnold will wear No. 0 as Lions rookies pick their jerseys

Top Detroit draft pick Terrion Arnold will wear No. 0 as Lions rookies pick their jerseys

The Detroit Lions rookie draft class has chosen its initial jersey numbers.

The first pick, cornerback Terrion Arnold, is rocking the No. 0 this weekend. Arnold wore No. 3 at Alabama, but that is punter Jack Fox’s jersey in Detroit.

Fellow CB Ennis Rakestraw has selected No. 15 for his jersey. The rest of the rookie draft class:

Terrion Arnold – 0

Ennis Rakesrraw – 15

Sione Vaki – 33

Giovani Manu – 59

Christian Mahogany – 73

Mekhi Wingo – 94

These are subject to change as the offseason rolls forward, of course; several drafted rookies have seen their Lions jersey numbers change from rookie minicamp to the start of the regular season as other transactions take place.

Falcons tight end Charlie Woerner to wear No. 89 this season

Falcons TE Charlie Woerner will wear uniform No. 89 this season in Atlanta

The Atlanta Falcons made arguably the biggest move of any team in free agency by signing veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins but the team’s other additions mostly flew under the radar.

The Falcons signed former 49ers tight end Charlie Woerner to a three-year, $12 million contract, filling the void left by Jonnu Smith. Woerner is someone head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson faced several times while they were with the Rams.

The team’s new No. 2 tight end is set to wear the No. 89 this season in Atlanta.

Woerner, 26, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Georgia. The fourth-year tight hasn’t missed a game since his rookie season. Woerner has caught 11 of 15 career targets for 120 receiving yards.

The Falcons released Jonnu Smith earlier in the offseason in a move that saved $6.5 million in salary cap space. Smith finished the 2023 season with 50 catches for 582 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Other recent Falcons offseason additions, including wide receivers Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore, were also assigned jersey numbers for the 2024 season. Mooney will wear the No. 1 while Moore will reportedly wear the No. 9.
