Jaydon Blue leads Longhorns offense in dominating win over UL-Monroe

While Manning performed well, Jaydon Blue took on a more significant role in the backfield and was a human highlight reel

Entering the Longhorn’s week 4 matchup, Arch Manning was the center of attention. The talented QB was making his first career start after two plus impressive quarters against UTSA the week before. While Manning performed well, Jaydon Blue took on a more significant role in the backfield and was a human highlight reel.

On 25 carries, the Houston native recorded 124 rushing yards, averaging five yards a carry. He was the only Longhorns player to eclipse 100 yards on the ground, taking some pressure off Manning. Blue proved to be nearly unstoppable, but he was also a scoring machine.

The talented junior found the end zone four times, accounting for 24 of the Longhorns’ 51 points. He entered Week 3 with no rushing touchdowns and is now tied with Jerrick Gibson for the team lead with three. That is a welcome sign for the Longhorns, who expect Blue to be an essential piece in a running back room that lost CJ Baxter before the regular season started.

As the Longhorns improved to 4-0, Blue’s impact did not go unnoticed by head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“It was great to have Jaydon Blue back,” Sarkisian said postgame on Thursday night.” He’s a weapon. He can get to the edge, but a lot of his yards are between the tackles.”

Over the next few weeks, Blue will continue to be a critical piece as conference play begins. The competition will get more challenging, and the Longhorns will need its offense at its best with points at a premium. On Saturday, Blue showed that he still handle a significant workload and take over a game.

247Sports ranks Texas running back room No. 9 in the country

Texas is set to have a strong running game in 2024.

The Texas running back room is set to thrive in 2024. One college football writer has it as one of the 10 best running back rooms in the nation.

247Sports’ Conner Bahns ranks the Texas ball carrying unit No. 9 in the country. He provided the following justification for their high ranking for the upcoming season

“Former No. 1 running back recruit CJ Baxter has superstar potential entering his second year of college football. He took the back seat to Jonathon Brooks last season but still strung together a nice freshman campaign, particularly down the stretch when he contributed touchdowns in some of Texas’ biggest games. His supporting cast at the ballcarrier spot is quite talented, too, with returning depth piece Jaydon Blue set to serve as a second option and incoming four-star prospect Jerrick Gibson offering a potential instant impact.”

Not mentioned were Christian Clark and Tre Wisner who could certainly make an impact for the Texas offense. Albeit, its the trio of Cedric Baxter Jr., Jaydon Blue and Jerrick Gibson that could become the best three-headed monster in college football.

There might not be a Doak Walker Award candidate among them for the 2024 season, although we didn’t view Jonathon Brooks as that before his breakout campaign last year. Even so, the tandem should be one of the more productive groups in the country.

Tashard Choice compares Texas RB Jaydon Blue to Jahmyr Gibbs

“They’ll look a little different in how they play the game, but the more Blue matures, he has a chance to be better [than Gibbs].”

Texas can find success in the run game without Jonathon Brooks

Although Jonathon Brooks’ injury may impact the Longhorns, CJ Baxter and Jaydon Blue provide a reliable running game.

Texas running back Jonathon Brooks tore his ACL in last week’s victory over TCU, ending his spectacular season. In his first full season as the starting back, Brooks rushed for 1,139 yards, 10 touchdowns, and averaged 6.1 yards per carry.

Despite the sophomore going down, Texas can still succeed in the run game with CJ Baxter and Jaydon Blue.

Baxter has been productive when healthy, accumulating nearly 400 yards and three touchdowns this season. For the Longhorns to keep the run game strong, they will need sophomore Jaydon Blue to step in and handle business, which he usually does.

Blue is an exceptionally quick and explosive back but has unfortunately found himself as the third string behind Brooks and Baxter this season. This is Blue’s time to prove that he has what it takes to fill in for Texas despite Brooks’ season-ending injury.

Although Brooks’ injury may impact the Longhorns, CJ Baxter and Jaydon Blue provide a reliable running game.

Texas Football: Three true freshmen who are turning heads in fall camp

These freshmen look like they can contribute early on.

The first year of the Steve Sarkisian era did not go according to plan for the Longhorns. Texas took a late-season tumble, failing to qualify for a bowl game with a mere 5-7 record.

Texas oversaw a roster revamp over the offseason using both the transfer portal and recruiting ranks to improve the talent on the team. The Longhorns signed the No. 5 overall class in the 2022 cycle.

Adding depth and talent to the trenches was a major point of emphasis for the Texas staff. The Longhorns bolstered the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball with five-star offensive lineman Kelvin Banks and Devon Campbell, along with four-star edge rushers Justice Finkley and J’Mond Tapp.

The incoming freshman class is loaded with talented players ready to compete for playing time early on. Last season Xavier Worthy broke out as a freshman All-American for the Horns.

Here are three true freshmen who have already begun to turn heads in fall camp looking to replicate that success.
