Tashard Choice compares Texas RB Jaydon Blue to Jahmyr Gibbs

“They’ll look a little different in how they play the game, but the more Blue matures, he has a chance to be better [than Gibbs].”

Texas has high hopes for running back Jaydon Blue in 2024.

Blue is expected to compete for the starting role alongside Cedric Baxter, but running backs coach Tashard Choice believes Blue could take the college football world by storm this upcoming season.

Not only is Choice a great recruiter and motivator, he has proven to develop some of the top running backs in the nation. Choice has coached Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson and Jonathon Brooks among others.

Robinson and Gibbs were top-12 picks in the 2023 NFL draft. Brooks is expected to be a top-50 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, although his season was cut short due to an ACL tear. Brooks is widely considered the No. 1 running back in this draft class.

Next in line for Choice could be Blue. Choice recently compared Blue’s body type to Gibbs and stated he has the potential to be even better.

“Speed-wise, he (Blue) is very similar to Jahmyr Gibbs, because he’s fast and he can catch the ball out of the backfield,” Choice said. “They’ll look a little different in how they play the game, but the more Blue matures, he has a chance to be better [than Gibbs].”

With Texas returning most of its starting offensive line in 2024, Blue and Baxter should have a strong season for the Longhorns as they enter the SEC.
