WATCH: Texas RB Savion Red excites the Longhorns at practice

Savion Red is taking to the running back spot well.

Second-year Longhorn Savion Red has made the position switch from wide receiver to running back this offseason.

Red played sparingly in his true freshman season, flashing some high upside at times with the ball in his hands. With Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson NFL bound along with some talented freshman wideouts joining the squad, Red has found a new home in the Texas backfield.

Red can profile as that Roschon Johnson type, short yardage back for the Longhorns. He holds a stocky frame with plus pass-catching with speed, working as a nice change of pace to Jonathan Brooks and Keilan Robinson.

Steve Sarkisian has praised Red for his willingness to change positions. It appears Red is taking to his new position well.

Watch Red slice through the Texas defense and score a touchdown in this clip from spring practice. He had the entire team excited including Bijan Robinson who was in attendance.

RB Bijan Robinson continues to climb Texas’ all-time rushing leaderboard

Bijan Robinson is making his case as one of the greatest Texas running backs of all time.

Bijan Robinson is making his case as one of the greatest Texas running backs of all time.

The junior running back is steadily making his way up Texas’ all-time rushing leaderboard. Robinson’s 140 rushing yards in Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma State pushed him into the top 10 rushers in school history.

Robinson is enjoying an excellent third season as a Texas Longhorn. He has rushed for 920 yards and 11 touchdowns, along with 280 yards and two more scores as a receiver. Robinson is the current Big 12 Conference leader in yards per game (115), rushing touchdowns, yards per carry (5.7) and missed tackles forced.

NFL scouts see Robinson as a future franchise ball carrier player at the next level.

With at least four more games left in the 2022 season, Robinson looks to keep building on his historic collegiate career. It is clear that the Arizona product is the next great running back from the University of Texas.

Here is a look into the record books at the top 10 rushers in Texas football history.

Texas running backs ranked among the best position groups in CFB

Texas should have lots of confidence in its running back room this season.

Texas should have lots of confidence in its running back room this season.

Bijan Robinson leads the group as one of the top offensive players in college football. The junior totaled nearly 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns in just 10 games last season. Robinson returns with Heisman odds and NFL draft aspirations.

What makes Texas’ running back unit so special is the depth and talent behind Robinson.

Senior Roschon Johnson is a rock-solid back who displays excellent toughness and leadership skills. Johnson is a great change of pace complement to Robinson.

Speedy Keilan Robinson is a home run threat every time he touches the ball. The former Alabama transfer is a great gadget guy and plays a huge role on special teams.

Young guys Johnathan Brooks and Jaydon Blue are exciting talents who have bright futures ahead of them.

247Sports ranks Texas’ running back room as the No. 5 overall position group in the nation. Pretty good company to be mentioned with for the Longhorns ball carriers.

Early position outlook: Texas is locked and loaded at RB

The running back room led by Bijan Robinson is locked and loaded for 2022.

Many teams across the country would love to have as much talent and depth as Texas does at running back.

Bijan Robinson, who headlines the room, is one most electric players in college football. The junior-to-be is must-see TV every time he touches the ball.

Robinson is a star, but what makes this running back room so great is the number of quality players behind him.

Senior Roschon Johnson is a tough runner who provides excellent leadership. Johnson finished the season with a monster performance against Kansas State. His 179 yards helped Texas end a seven-game losing skid to cap the season.

After Johnson is speedy Keilan Robinson. The Alabama transfer flashed his wheels in 2021. Many Texas fans hope to see more of No. 7 next fall.

Young Johnathan Brooks passed the eye test during his freshman season. Brooks showed a mix of great vision and quickness in a limited number of snaps in his first year at Texas.

The 2022 class features Jaydon Blue. A four-star prospect who sat his senior year to prepare for college football. Blue enrolled early for the spring semester and was already getting to work.

Here is an early look at Texas running back depth chart heading into spring ball:

Texas RB Roschon Johnson expects to play against West Virginia

Texas’ running back depth gets some much-needed good news.

Texas’ strongest position group all season has been running back. That changed in a major way against Kansas. The Longhorns lost superstar Bijan Robinson and promising freshman Johnathan Brooks to injuries.

On Tuesday, the Texas running back room received some much-needed good news as Roschon Johnson stated he will play this weekend against West Virginia.

Johnson has been dealing with turf toe and was only set to play against Kansas in case of emergency. He was tasked to finish the game when Robinson and Brooks went down.

Speedster Keilan Robinson should also make his return after missing the Kansas game while going through COVID-19 protocol.

Expect Johnson and Robinson to carry much of the workload for the final two games of the season.

Texas will head to Morgantown for a tough matchup against a strong West Virginia defense in Week 12. The Horns have no more room for error if they want to make a bowl game.

WATCH: Four Texas running backs record a touchdown against Rice

It was a touchdown party for the Texas running backs on Saturday night.

Stan Drayton is somewhere smiling at the fact that he may have assembled the best running back room in the nation.

There was an exclusive party in the end zone on Saturday evening, and four of Texas’ running backs were in attendance.

The Longhorns unleashed a deadly rushing attack against Rice that saw seemingly every running back that touched the ball tearing up the opposing defense. Starting running back Bijan Robinson led the team with three touchdowns and 127 yards rushing, the Texas running back room as a whole combined for six touchdowns and amassed over 400 yards rushing.

Bijan Robinson also made history in Week 3, as he became the fastest running back at Texas to reach 1,000 career rushing yards since the legendary Jamaal Charles.

Even with the change at quarterback, it was evident that the game plan was to feed the running backs as much as possible. The 38 rushes was the most of the season for Texas, and it is evident that Sarkisian should consider utilizing all of the backs as much as possible.

On every touch, it seemed as if one of the running backs could have gone the distance. Take a look at five of the six that did:

Position outlook for Texas’ running backs

If there is a position group more solid than running back on Texas’ depth chart, please let us know.

If there is a position group more solid than running back on Texas’ depth chart, please let us know.

Stan Drayton has done an excellent job filling his room with qualities bodies from top to bottom. Even with the departure of Keaontay Ingram to USC, the Longhorns are going to have one of the best groups in the Big 12. Only Oklahoma can compare from a depth perspective.

Everything begins and ends with Bijan Robinson. Every Texas fan knows his name but soon everyone in the country will know who he is. With questions surrounding the quarterback and wide receivers, Robinson is going to be the main guy in Steve Sarkisian’s offense. How far he can carry the load will be the only question.

From there, at least four guys could be used in game situations if needed. Roschon Johnson, Gabriel Watson, and Daniel Young are the experienced bunch, while Jonathan Brooks is a true freshman. There are plenty of options for Sarkisian at running back.

Here is the position outlook for Texas’ running backs.
