How do you feel about this? #GoBucks
Sometimes you run across something and you wonder what in the world people were thinking. There are things that inherently come with competition and then there are the blurred lines of bad taste.
Consider this one in the latter category.
Two photos are being sold by a Georgia-based memorabilia company named More Than Sports that are signed by Bulldogs defensive back Jevon Bullard. The images are of the hit that knocked Marvin Harrison Jr. out of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Both are being sold for $129.99 and have Bullard’s signature with the tagline “Night Night” inscribed underneath.
We could go into all sorts of reasons this is a bad idea, but anyone reading this can figure out the why. Sure, let’s celebrate a controversial call that knocked a kid out and put him in concussion protocol, shall we?
The photos did not go unnoticed by Harrison. He captioned a tweet of the photo and reacted with ” ‘Night Night’ lol bet” on his own Twitter account Tuesday evening.
Even more disappointing to many will be the description of one of the photos. It reads:
“Javon Bullard hand signed photo. Javon Bullard knows for his Chickfla Peach Bowl MVP and MVP in the National Championship as well!! This is iconic shot of potential game saving hit that was laid on on Marvin Harrison Jr!!”
The hit on Harrison was clearly one of the pivotal plays in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Ohio State was up 35-24 very late in the third quarter and driving again. Harrison was having a day and his loss significantly impacted the offense. The Buckeyes managed just six points from that point, including the field goal they had to settle for after that play. So, yeah, it was a big play in the game. But to celebrate a situation in which a young man was injured?
We are reminded time and time again that there’s a difference between winning and winning with class.
