The remaining active NBA players from each draft class between 2003 and 2010

It is truly remarkable that LeBron is still playing as well as he does.

With each passing season, more and more players in the previous generation of the NBA are graduating into retirement.

Some of the most recognizable and dominant players of a beloved era (e.g. Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, etc.) have recently ended their professional playing careers.

As the league begins to look increasingly different every year, we decided to look at which players drafted before 2011 are still active in the league. There are only 30 players who fit those qualifications and only 19 have started more than one game this season.

Here is a look at each NBA draft class and who remains active years later.

Warriors were pursuing reunion with JaVale McGee

The Golden State Warriors were ‘pursuing’ a reunion with JaVale McGee before he signed with the Sacramento Kings

The Golden State Warriors need additional size on their roster.

Dario Saric and Trayce Jackson-Davis, both 6 feet, 10 inches, are the two tallest members of the Warriors roster. As such, it should come as no surprise that Golden State registered interest in reuniting with former champion JaVale McGee after the Dallas Mavericks waived him, as The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported.

McGee signed with the Sacramento Kings instead. With three rings to his name, McGee might have chosen to join the Kings in search of a bigger role. Nevertheless, Sacramento’s recent improvements will certainly have aided the Kings’ pursuit of McGee, who is still an impact rim-runner at the age of 35.

“Known commodity JaVale McGee was a nice late-offseason addition for the Kings (especially considering they won his services over the pursuing Warriors),” Amick wrote. “The state of his 36-year-old game (beyond this recent highlight reel) remains to be seen, but I’m told the Kings’ optimistic plan would be for him to play a significant role.”

After missing on McGee, Golden State will likely deploy multiple small-ball lineups in the coming season. With so many elite-level guards and wings, Stever Kerr can get creative with his lineups and substitution patterns.

The Warriors still have two open roster spots as they head into training camp. As such, there is a chance Mike Dunleavy and the front office add size to the roster if they believe the player is a good fit and can make an impact.

Warriors could turn to former champion to solve size issue

The former Golden State Warriors champion is currently a free agent after being waived by the Dallas Mavericks.

Despite adding Trayce Jackson-Davis and Dario Saric this summer, the Golden State Warriors are still lacking size. No player on the roster is taller than 6 feet, 10 inches’, which could leave the Warriors susceptible to larger opponents throughout the season.

Golden State has two open roster spots heading into training camp. Following their offseason moves, the Warriors will likely utilize veteran minimum deals to round out their roster. One player being floated as a potential target is former Warriors champion JaVale McGee, who the Dallas Mavericks recently waived.

Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area recently explored the upside of bringing the two-time Warriors champion back for another season as a potential short-term fix in the middle of the court.

“McGee would automatically add the missing size that the outside is begging for once again. Dario Šarić’s addition in free agency finally gives the Warriors a player taller than 6-foot-9 … by one inch,” Johnson wrote. “McGee is a true 7-footer, and though skill now beats pure size, it’s no coincidence the last five NBA MVPs have been big men – ending an 11-year streak of the award going to a point guard, shooting guard or small forward. And while Joel Embiid stopped Nikola Jokic from a three-peat of the award, the Western Conference is littered with stars who tower over the Warriors.”

McGee’s size, experience, and familiarity with the Warriors would make him an ideal addition ahead of the new season. The veteran big man already knows the team’s style of play and has an on-court chemistry with Golden State’s championship core.

The move would certainly be a temporary fix for a longer-term issue, but McGee’s presence would ensure the Warriors can match size-for-size when teams decide to play big throughout the upcoming NBA season.

Should the Lakers bring back JaVale McGee?

The Mavericks reportedly plan on waiving center JaVale McGee soon. Should the Lakers sign him and stage a reunion?

After remodeling their roster and making it to the Western Conference finals this past season, the Los Angeles Lakers look like they have reopened their championship contention window.

They last won the NBA title during the 2019-20 season when they employed a big starting lineup with Anthony Davis at power forward and JaVale McGee at the 5. It seems they want to return to that approach, especially since they have been looking for one more true center to add to their roster.

On Tuesday, news broke that the Dallas Mavericks are planning to waive McGee, which would make him a free agent. Should the Lakers look to snag him and stage a reunion?

Former Warriors champion waived by Mavericks, could emerge as target

The former Golden State Warriors champion could become a target once he clears waivers.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Former Golden State Warriors big man JaVale McGee is being waived by the Dallas Mavericks, according to a report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. McGee, 35, spent two seasons with Golden State from 2016 to 2018, winning back-to-back championships during his time with the franchise.

Once he clears waivers, McGee will become an unrestricted free agent and will be free to sign with any team in the NBA. The Warriors have a lack of size in the middle of the court and could be interested in reuniting with their former rim-runner on a veteran minimum deal.

McGee also spent time playing alongside Chris Paul in recent years, having spent the 2021-22 season with the Phoenix Suns. He participated in 74 regular-season games, starting 12.

Golden State has two open roster spots and has been putting an emphasis on adding skilled veterans who fit the current core’s timeline. McGee would bring size, experience and leadership to the big man position while providing a style of play different to Dario Saric.

As a rim-protector, rim-runner and willing screener, McGee would slot straight back into his old role with the Warriors, albeit with a reduced workload. Furthermore, adding the veteran champion would reduce the pressure on Trayce Jackson-Davis to hit the ground running in the season.

McGee will likely have no shortage of suitors. Yet, few teams will be able to offer the veteran big man such a clear-cut shot at his fourth championship ring, and that could be what puts the Warriors in pole position for his services, should they want them.

ACC players taken in the 2023 NBA draft

Have long-term hopes for any of these players?

It’s no secret that the ACC is in a rough spot right now. Over the past couple of years, the conference’s quality of play has suffered, and the NCAA Tournament selection committee has taken notice, giving the power conference only four at-large bids in each of the past two years.

Now, we’re seeing the lull carry over to the NBA draft. A conference that typically sees one of its own go off the board within the first four picks had to wait until the 12th pick in 2023. In fact, that was the only lottery pick for the conference.

So it stands to reason that there isn’t a lot of hope for this ACC class of incoming NBA players, but stranger things have happened. As we just saw with the champion Denver Nuggets, even a diamond in the rough on draft night can turn into a franchise-altering player. It could happen again with one of these players:

Mock trade has Nets trading Patty Mills for JaVale McGee and 2nd-round pick

This mock trade has the Brooklyn Nets trading Patty Mills for JaVale McGee and a second-round pick.

With the offseason in full effect, the Brooklyn Nets have some time to ponder who they are taking in the 2023 NBA Draft or if they can pull off a trade of some sort. The summer season also comes to its fair share of mock trades and this piece will ponder another one for Brooklyn.

Most of the mock trades for the Nets this offseason have involved players like Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and Nic Claxton since those are the most valuable players on the team at the moment. While those players are among the best on the squad, Brooklyn would be using them to acquire a superstar such as Portland Trail Blazer Damian Lillard.

The mock trade that will be evaluated in this article will be less exciting than most trades, but it would still be important to the franchise given the assets involved. Per Jakob Ashlin of Fansided, Brooklyn could look to get some value for veteran guard Patty Mills.

Report: Brooklyn Nets among teams interested in JaVale McGee

Reports indicate that the Brooklyn Nets are interested in pursuing upcoming free agent JaVale McGee.

The NBA free agency draws closer as teams are looking to rebolster their rosters looking ahead to next season, the Nets are rumored to be eyeing big man Javale McGee.

John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports reported that the Nets were among three-teams interested in signing JaVale McGee. Brooklyn alongside the Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks are going to pursue McGee, who according to Gambadoro wants a multi-year deal.

The Phoenix Suns are not guaranteed to just allow McGee to walk and still may try to extend the big man.

McGee averaged nine points per game and nearly seven rebounds per contest. The former two-time Shaqtin’ A Fool champion has solidified himself as a consistent roleplaying center that has value across the league.

McGee wouldn’t be a starter for the Bucks, Nets or Mavericks but could absolutely make himself  a bigger part of the organization’s system. McGee could contribute heavily on the defensive end of the court and really push a team to the next level.

5 free agent big men that Sixers should look at in 2022 offseason

Here are five big men who the Philadelphia 76ers can look at in free agency to back up Joel Embiid.

As the Philadelphia 76ers begin preparing for the free agency period at the end of June, they have some, but not a lot of, money to play with. They will have the $6.4 million taxpayer mid-level exception to use, but they could open the full $10.3 million mid-level exception if they waive Danny Green, who will miss a good portion of the 2022-23 season.

Philadelphia has a few needs that need to be addressed in the offseason such as the addition of a legitimate 3-and-D wing player as well as another ball-handler, but they could also use a backup big man, once again.

The Sixers had a good one in Andre Drummond before they sent him to the Brooklyn Nets in the James Harden deal and they struggled to replace his production behind Joel Embiid. While young players Paul Reed and Charles Bassey wait in the wings, Philadelphia might be better off getting a win-now sort of player considering their championship timeline.

With that being said, here are five big men in 2022 free agency that could help the team move forward:

James Harden, Bam Adebayo and the best player props ahead to bet on Wednesday’s Game 2s

Breaking down the best player props to bet on ahead of Wednesday’s NBA slate.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned through my years of watching the NBA playoffs, it’s that Game 1 outcomes bring a lot of overreactions. We saw how quickly the narratives changed on Tuesday night as the Boston Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies each picked up a win in Game 2, changing the outlook on the remainder of those series.

Will Wednesday’s Game 2’s have a similar result?

The Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers could use some heroic player performances, and so could the Mavericks, as each team tries to even up their series on the road.

We look at some of Tipico Sportsbook‘s best player props ahead of Wednesday night.
