Former Chicago point guard Ryan Arcidiacono signing with Windy City Bulls

Arcidiacono is rejoining the Bulls to play for the ball club’s G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls.

A familiar face is rejoining the ranks of the Chicago Bulls, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. Former New York Knicks point guard Ryan Arcidiacono is rejoining the Bulls to play for the ball club’s G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls.

It is something of a full circle moment with the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Villanova in 2017. The Arch of Dimes (as Arcidiacono is sometimes called) has since also played for the Portland Trail Blazers at the NBA level. The 6-foot-3, 29-year-old floor general played so few minutes in his last stop that it is hard to get an idea of his production with a greater opportunity — just 2.3 minutes per game.

But Arcidiacono has career averages of 4.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game which were similar to his play at similar stops as recently as last season with the Blazers.

At this stage of his career it seems unlikely that we will see too much of Arcidiacono at the NBA level with the Bulls. But the Philly native could find luck trying to rehab his career at that level, even if not necessarily with Chicago.

Rookies Trayce Jackson-Davis and Brandin Podziemski combine for 52 points in G League

The pair of Golden State rookies impressed during their appearance in the G League, combining for 52 points with Santa Cruz.

With the Golden State Warriors getting two days off before hosting a back-to-back over the weekend at San Francisco’s Chase Center, rookies Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis were sent to the G League for a game on Friday night with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

During their appearance in the G League, the pair of rookies showed off. Jackson-Davis continued the impressive start to his professional career with a double-double. The former Indiana Hoosier tallied a game-high 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field with 12 boards, an assist and a block in 31 minutes.

Podziemski added 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field. The first round pick knocked down three triples to go along with seven rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes.

Behind the rookie duo, the Santa Cruz Warriors rolled to a 124-114 win over the Stockton Kings.

JD Davison and Boston Celtics agree to a two-way contract

Former Alabama PG, JD Davison, signs NBA two-way contract with Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics and former second-round pick out of Alabama, JD Davison, have agreed to a new two-way contract. The 20-year-old was selected No. 53 overall in the 2022 NBA draft and is still getting his feet wet in the league.

In 2022, Davison appeared in 12 games with the Celtics but played primarily with their G-League affiliate the Maine Celtics. Davison appeared in 26 games for Maine but only started one. Despite that, he still went on to average 12.5 PPG, 4.2 APG, and 8.7 APG. Very remarkable numbers for a guy who is bound to crack the NBA roster soon.

A two-way contract means that an NBA team is allowed to carry three extra players, in addition to the 15 they are allowed on the roster, to bounce back and forth between the G League team and the NBA franchise. Essentially, Boston wants to be able to have him available in case he starts to really look NBA-ready, but he can also get significant minutes to grow in the G League. It’s a good sign that the Celtics have been impressed with what they have seen from the former Crimson Tide star to date.

The Celtics have made the Eastern Conference Finals in five of the past seven years and just traded away starting PG Marcus Smart. There may be a role for Davison on a Celtics team that appear to be in the midst of their championship window.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow former Alabama basketball players now in the NBA.

ACC players taken in the 2023 NBA draft

Have long-term hopes for any of these players?

It’s no secret that the ACC is in a rough spot right now. Over the past couple of years, the conference’s quality of play has suffered, and the NCAA Tournament selection committee has taken notice, giving the power conference only four at-large bids in each of the past two years.

Now, we’re seeing the lull carry over to the NBA draft. A conference that typically sees one of its own go off the board within the first four picks had to wait until the 12th pick in 2023. In fact, that was the only lottery pick for the conference.

So it stands to reason that there isn’t a lot of hope for this ACC class of incoming NBA players, but stranger things have happened. As we just saw with the champion Denver Nuggets, even a diamond in the rough on draft night can turn into a franchise-altering player. It could happen again with one of these players:

Nate Laszewski to take part in pre-draft workout for Indiana Pacers

This is a nice opportunity for him.

As it currently stands, former Notre Dame forward [autotag]Nate Laszewski[/autotag] isn’t anywhere near anyone’s NBA draft projections. Even though that’s unlikely to change, Laszewski figures he can at least improve his stock as far as professional aspirations. He’ll get that opportunity when the Indiana Pacers host him and four other players during a pre-draft workout:

Laszewski, who mulled the 2022 draft before returning to Notre Dame, was the Irish’s best player in a very forgettable 2022-23 season. He led the team in both scoring (13.7) and rebounds (7.2). It helped that his 6-foot-10 frame brought size to a team that sorely lacked it. But whatever it was that convinced the Pacers to invite him, he clearly has some basketball left in him.

At the very least, this should be a sign that he’ll be invited to play in the NBA Summer League. After that, he’ll see if the G-League or some overseas team comes calling. The possibilities almost are endless, and he has to be feeling excited about that.

NBA draft combine to feature two former Crimson Tide members

Two Alabama players invited to 2023 NBA combine

The NBA draft is about a month and a half away, which means it’s time to start getting into the bulk of the draft process. The NBA is different than the NFL in the sense that you can go through the draft process while still maintaining your eligibility and return to college if it seems as if you won’t be drafted where you want to be.

The Crimson Tide had five players declare for the draft, but only two received invites to the NBA combine, Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney. Miller is expected to be a top-three pick and Clowney has been projected to be a late first/early second-round selection, so this comes as not much of a surprise. The 2023 combine will feature 78 players from the NCAA, G-League and overseas. Auburn had no players invited to the combine.

What does it mean for the likes of Jahvon Quinerly, Mark Sears and Charles Bediako? Well, I think it is more likely than not that all three return to Tuscaloosa in the fall. There is a chance that one takes the risk and sticks out the draft process. There is always a chance they enter the portal.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to monitor the NBA draft process.

Top 10 Notre Dame men’s basketball players according to ChatGPT

Let’s see what AI knows about Irish men’s hoops.

For the past few months, I’ve heard quite a bit about the AI information bot known as ChatGPT. It was the subject of an episode during this past season of “South Park”. More importantly, I’ve heard how it’s such a game-changer that writing jobs are done for. We’ll see about that as I’m not too worried about it, but then again, I’m sure newspaper employees said the same thing about the internet in the mid-1990s.

When our editor Nick Shepkowski decided to ask ChatGPT what it thought Notre Dame’s 10 best football players were, I decided to follow suit and ask the same question but for the 10 best men’s basketball players instead. Keep in mind that even the bot knows this list is subjective:

“Please note that there are many other outstanding players who have played for Notre Dame and could also be included on this list.”

So keep that in mind as you go over the following list, which also includes ChatGPT’s description of each player:

Pat Connaughton/Blake Wesley NBA Tracker: March 6-12

An uneven week in more ways than on.

After starting nearly every game for the Milwaukee Bucks since Christmas, [autotag]Pat Connaughton[/autotag] is back to coming off the bench. Whether or not that should be happening is up for debate, but what isn’t is that he continues to turn in some decent production. His most efficient game was during a March 9 win over the Brooklyn Nets in which he scored eight points in less than 17 minutes. For the week, he averaged 5.7 points while shooting 5 of 16 (31.3%) from the field.

There isn’t much to report on [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] as the San Antonio Spurs played only two games during the past week, and Wesley was assigned to the G-League during one of them. The rookie did return for their March 12 game, a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. For that game, he dished out a career-high six assists and recorded his second career block but shot only 1 of 12 from the field. Talk about a weird balance of good and bad.

G League: Moses Moody and rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. combine for 41 points vs. South Bay Lakers on Sunday

Despite the Santa Cruz Warriors’ loss to the South Bay Lakers, Patrick Baldwin Jr. and Moses Moody each notched 20 or more points on Sunday in the G League.

Although the Golden State Warriors had the day off, the Santa Cruz Warriors were in action in the G League against the South Bay Lakers on Sunday evening in Southern California.

During the G League contest, three members of the Golden State Warriors were on assignment. All three members of the Warriors tallied double-figures in Sunday’s G League contest against the South Bay Lakers.

Rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. led the way with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field with seven boards and three assists in 28 minutes. Baldwin Jr. continued his impressive shooting from beyond the arc, knocking down four triples on seven attempts from deep against the South Bay Lakers.

Via @GLeagueWarriors on Twitter:

2022 first-round pick Moses Moody added 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field with four rebounds and an assist in 29 minutes. Moody also knocked down four 3-pointers of his own on eight attempts from long distance.

Rookie guard Ryan Rollins notched 17 points off the bench on 7-of-18 shooting from the field with two boards and two assists in 27 minutes.

Despite a solid performance from a trio of Warriors, Santa Cruz had no answer for South Bay. Eight members of the Lakers scored double-figures as South Bay cruised to a blowout win over Santa Cruz, 152-118.

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers guard Bryce McGowens had an outstanding G-League debut

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers guard Bryce McGowens had an outstanding performance on Friday night for the Greensboro Swarm in the G-League. McGowens scored 32 points, while knocking down three out of his eight three-point attempts. He also added five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

The Charlotte Hornets selected McGowens in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. This season, he has appeared in five games for the Hornets logging 30 total minutes. In that short time, he has recorded 16 points, two steals, and a block. The Hornets transferred first-round pick Mark Williams and McGowens to the Swarm on November 10th.

Below are the early highlights of McGowens’s NBA/G-League season.
