Draymond Green deserves another suspension for recklessly putting his arm around Patty Mills’ neck

Draymond Green deserves to be suspended. Again.

The last time we’ve seen a serious incident involving Draymond Green, he received an indefinite suspension.

And while what happened on Tuesday doesn’t deserve another lengthy suspension, it needs to be something. Because Green was up to his old tricks again in the Golden State Warriors’ win over the Miami Heat, getting tangled up with Patty Mills before he put his arm around the neck of the veteran guard.

He apparently somehow was whistled for a common foul and not a flagrant. But it doesn’t matter. Given Green’s history, anything that would be this reckless needs a suspension — let’s say five games — to remind him that there’s a line that he cannot cross that he for sure crossed on Tuesday.

The remaining active NBA players from each draft class between 2003 and 2010

It is truly remarkable that LeBron is still playing as well as he does.

With each passing season, more and more players in the previous generation of the NBA are graduating into retirement.

Some of the most recognizable and dominant players of a beloved era (e.g. Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, etc.) have recently ended their professional playing careers.

As the league begins to look increasingly different every year, we decided to look at which players drafted before 2011 are still active in the league. There are only 30 players who fit those qualifications and only 19 have started more than one game this season.

Here is a look at each NBA draft class and who remains active years later.

OKC Thunder officially announce full details of multiplayer trade with Hawks

Full details of the multi-player trade can be found here:

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

The Oklahoma City Thunder officially announced their multiplayer trade with the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.

The Thunder acquired Rudy Gay, Usman Garuba, TyTy Washington Jr. and a 2026 second-round pick from the Hawks in exchange for Patty Mills, who was officially acquired on July 7 in a five-team trade.

The three players were rerouted to the Thunder after being on two other teams since the beginning of the offseason. Gay ended last season with the Utah Jazz and picked up his $6.5 million player option. Garuba and Washington Jr. were on the Houston Rockets as 2021 and 2022 first-round picks, respectively.

The deal saves the Hawks $4.6 million in cap space. The trio is set to make a combined $11.4 million next season; meanwhile, Mills is on an expiring $6.8 million salary.

With the Thunder already facing a roster crunch, odds are none of the three players acquired will be with OKC by the start of the 2023-24 season. It’s already been reported that Garuba and Washington Jr. could have a market as young prospects on cost control deals.

The Thunder also add another second-round draft pick to their arsenal. They’ve used their $32 million in cap space this summer to essentially buy draft capital by absorbing bloated expiring deals.

Veteran NBA guard Patty Mills has somehow been traded between 4 teams in the last 10 days

Patty Mills has got to be tired of being traded this summer.

NBA veteran guard Patty Mills has reportedly joined his fourth team within a matter of a 10 days.

Mills, who won a title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, played for the Brooklyn Nets from 2021-23 and was reportedly traded to the Houston Rockets at the start of the NBA’s 2023 free agency cycle.

Then, news broke that the Rockets were sending Mills to the Oklahoma City Thunder a day later as part of a bigger deal.

Somehow, the Atlanta Hawks entered the equation on Saturday and reportedly acquired Mills by sending three players (TyTy Washington, Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay) and a draft pick to the Thunder.

Indeed, Mills will join the Hawks for his third trade in the last 10 days, but ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski mentions that the Hawks still aren’t sure if they’ll keep Mills for the long haul.

Mills has got to be tired of being moved around so much and will probably just be happy to land with a team that will want to actually play him this season.

The veteran guard would join a fifth team this offseason if the Hawks decide to trade him or buy out his contract. That’d be quite a wild ride of such an established presence in the NBA.

Report: Thunder acquire TyTy Washington, Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay, draft pick from Hawks

A lot of details in this trade as OKC continues to make moves.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to wheel and deal this offseason, as they completed another trade on Saturday.

The Thunder acquired TyTy Washington, Usman Garuba, Rudy Gay and a second-round pick from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Patty Mills, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The trade saves the Hawks $4.5 million. Mills owns an expiring salary of $6.8 million.

This ends Mills’ short tenure with the Thunder. He was acquired from the Houston Rockets in a multi-team trade that also landed OKC three second-round picks.

Washington and Garuba were shipped out by the Hawks to shed salary. Washington is a 2022 first-round pick and Garuba is a 2021 first-round pick, so both are on their standard four-year rookie deals.

According to Wojnarowski, both Washington and Garuba have multiple teams interested in them as potential young projects. With the Thunder’s roster already stacked with young talent, perhaps they could acquire additional draft picks for both young players.

The Thunder currently own 35 draft picks over the next seven years.

Meanwhile, Gay was also moved for a second time after he was traded to the Hawks from the Utah Jazz. The 36-year-old picked up his $6.5 million player option for next season.

The Thunder essentially acquired four second-round picks and two young prospects for absorbing Mills’ $6.8 million salary and actually end up saving $0.3 million in Gay’s salary following the trade. A smart usage of cap space for a team that had money to spend.

Report: Full details on draft picks Thunder acquired in Patty Mills multi-team trade revealed

The Thunder landed three second-round picks by taking on Patty Mills.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

The Oklahoma City Thunder entered the offseason with over $30 million in cap space to spend. Instead of bringing in outside additions, the Thunder elected to use their financial flexibility by absorbing bad short-term salaries for draft picks.

One of their moves that follow this philosophy is the Patty Mills multi-team trade that landed the 34-year-old to OKC as a $6.8 million expiring salary. He was previously dealt to the Houston Rockets from the Brooklyn Nets.

The Thunder landed three second-round picks in the deal and The Athletic’s Kelly Iko revealed the full details of the three draft picks — the Rockets’ second-round picks in 2024, 2029 and 2030.

The Thunder also acquired the Miami Heat’s 2029 and 2030 second-round picks for taking on Victor Oladipo’s $9.5 million expiring salary. So overall, the Thunder essentially bought five second-round picks for $16.3 million.

Report: Thunder acquire Patty Mills in multi-team trade for draft pick(s)

The Thunder continue to utilize their cap space by absorbing bloated salaries for draft compensation.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to make moves with their available cap space.

The Thunder agreed to acquire veteran guard Patty Mills in a multi-team trade that includes the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. In exchange for absorbing his $6.8 million expiring salary, the Thunder will gain draft compensation. The exact draft compensation has not been released.

Mills was acquired by the Rockets from the Brooklyn Nets on July 1.

Heading into the offseason, the Thunder had $33 million to spend, and considering the moves they’ve made thus far, it looks like they are using the money they have to spend to add draft capital.

The Thunder acquired Cason Wallace by absorbing Davis Bertans’ deal and gained two future second-round draft picks from the Miami Heat by acquiring Victor Oladipo’s expiring salary.

It’s unknown what Mills’ future in OKC will look like. In all likelihood, the Thunder will buy out at least one of the expensive veterans they’ve acquired over the last couple of weeks.

If Mills stays on the Thunder, he joins fellow Australians Josh Giddey and Jack White on the roster.

In 40 games last season with the Nets, the 34-year-old averaged 6.2 points on 41.1% shooting, 1.4 assists and 1.1 rebounds. He also shot 36.6% from 3 on 3.4 attempts.

Report: Brooklyn Nets finalizing trade to send Patty Mills to the Houston Rockets

The Brooklyn Nets are finalizing a trade to send Patty Mills to the Houston Rockets, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

The Brooklyn Nets have already made one trade this offseason and it looks like they’re not done wheeling-and-dealing.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Nets are finalizing a trade to send veteran guard Patty Mills to the Houston Rockets. As of this writing, there is no indication of what Brooklyn is getting in return so it’s possible that the Nets are trading Mills to get more salary relief.

This is the second trade that Brooklyn has done this offseason after trading sharpshooting guard Joe Harris and two second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons for some salary relief. Like forward Yuta Watanabe, Mills saw his playing time dwindle after the trades of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving since the team brought in four new players as the result of those deals.

Mills, 34, has been in the NBA for the past 14 seasons after being selected by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 55th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft out of the Saint Mary’s. Mills began his tenure with Brooklyn in the 2021-22 season and averaged 9.7 points per game while shooting 39.3% from three-point range in his two seasons with the franchise.

Rockets sign Jock Landale and trade for Patty Mills, who will be rerouted

After reaching deals with Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks, Houston’s busy free agency continued by trading for Patty Mills (who isn’t staying) and signing big man Jock Landale (who is staying).

After previously reaching deals with Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks, Houston’s busy start to 2023 free agency continued with a trade for veteran Brooklyn guard Patty Mills and the signing of third-year big man Jock Landale, mostly recently of Phoenix.

The trade for Mills, who is well regarded for his perimeter shooting and leadership, was first reported by The Athletic. Now 34 years old, the 6-foot-1 guard has averaged 9.0 points (38.9% on 3-pointers) in 20.4 minutes per game over 14 NBA seasons.

Several of those seasons were spent alongside Ime Udoka, who was an assistant for seven years with the Spurs. Both Udoka and Mills were part of San Antonio’s 2014 championship team.

Mills is owed $6.8 million next season, and he is an expiring contract. However, per Kelly Iko of The Athletic, Mills could ultimately be moved yet again as part of a complicated sign-and-trade involving the Memphis Grizzlies and newly acquired wing Dillon Brooks.

Houston will receive a second-round draft pick from the Nets for the initial Mills trade, per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

As for Landale, he averaged 6.6 points (52.8% FG) and 4.1 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per game last season. The 6-foot-11 big man, now 27 years old, played with the Spurs in 2021-22 before moving to the Suns for 2022-23. Landale could be part of Houston’s plans to provide a backup to Alperen Sengun with more defensive abilities.

The Rockets were hopeful of landing Brook Lopez from Milwaukee for that role, but he ultimately chose to return to the Bucks.

Here’s a look at immediate reaction to the two deals. Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Landale signed a four-year, $32-million contract with Houston, but only the first season is guaranteed.

Nets’ Patty Mills: Ben Simmons is ‘looking good, feeling good’ amidst back rehab

Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons is looking and feeling good right now according to what Patty Mills told Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.

The Brooklyn Nets have a lot going on this offseason as they try to figure out how they want to proceed as an organization now that the 2023 NBA Draft has happened. One of the things that the Nets may have to worry about less than the others is Ben Simmons’ health.

According to Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News, Patty Mills gave an update on Simmons’ rehab from a nerve impingement in his back that ended his 2022-23 season after 42 games. Winfield was able to speak to Mills during the unveiling of the Indigenous Flow mural that opened in Sunset Park, Brooklyn on Saturday.

Mills said that Simmons is doing what he needs to do to get himself ready to play basketball again and that he’s working hard to get back to himself. If Simmons is able to fully recover from his back injury by the time that the 2023 FIBA tournament comes around, he could have a full training camp for the first time in a long time.
