The Brooklyn Nets made it to the NBA 2K24 semi-finals thanks to the team amassing a 3-1 record and a 10-point average point differential to get them to that stage. Thanks to a recent announcement by the NBA, it looks like one of the players that played a role in that journey is being recognized for his efforts.

In an announcement by the league on Monday, Nets forward Jalen Wilson made the NBA 2K24 All-Summer League Second Team because of his performance. Through five games, including the semi-final loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Wilson averaged 17.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 43.6% from the field and 45.8% from three-point land.

Wilson, the 51st pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Nets, comes into the league as an experienced player, which showed in the summer league, but also has an uphill climb in the NBA because of his being a late second-round pick. However, Wilson has signed a Two-Way contract with Brooklyn already and with the way he played in the summer league, he could be playing games for the Nets in the regular season sooner than expected.

Jalen Wilson turned in a strong performance in the NBA Summer League on the court and off of it after five games with the Brooklyn Nets in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Wilson averaged 17.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and one steal on 45.8% shooting from 3-point range. He scored in double figures in each game and wrapped up his stay with his best effort on Sunday: 22 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Thanks to his play on the court, he was able to raise some money off it.

The 51st pick teamed up with Wilson Sporting Goods to raise money for the local YMCAs in Brooklyn. Together, they agreed to pledge $100 per point and $50 per assist that Wilson recorded in Las Vegas.

After finishing with 88 points and 13 assists, a total of $9,450 was raised.

The recent act of kindness isn’t the first time Wilson has given back to the community. He, along with eight other of his Kansas teammates, helped donate $17,000 of his own money to help combat homelessness in Lawrence this past season.

Certainly, Wilson served as a tremendous role model in the community throughout his four years in college and has already continued those efforts in the NBA.

Brooklyn Nets sign Jalen Wilson to two-way deal

The Brooklyn Nets have signed their 51st overall pick, Jalen Wilson, to a Two-Way contract, the team announced Wednesday.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

The Brooklyn Nets recently completed their 2023 NBA Draft and brought in three new players: Noah Clowney (21st overall pick), Dariq Whitehead (22nd overall pick, and Jalen Wilson (51st overall pick). Brooklyn recently announced that they one of those players officially under contract.

On Wednesday, the Nets announced via their Twitter account that they have signed Wilson to a Two-Way contract. According to the G League website, players signed to Two-Way deal will spend the bulk of the season in the G League and not more than 45 days (50 games) with their NBA team. This essentially ensures that Wilson will be getting his experience at the G League level for the foreseeable future.

Wilson, 22, comes into the NBA after spending four seasons at the University of Kansas. He seemingly catapulted himself into the NBA conversation after going from averaging 11.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in his junior season (while winning the national title) to averaging 20.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game during his senior campaign, leading to Wilson being named first-team Consensus All-America for the 2022-23 season as well as the Big 12 Player of the Year.

Wilson will be playing for the Nets in the Vegas Summer League that spans from July 7 to July 17.

Nets’ Jalen Wilson says being an older prospect makes him ‘well-prepared’ for the NBA

Brooklyn Nets forward Jalen Wilson is confident that he’s prepared for the NBA thanks to his four years at Kansas.

Brooklyn Nets forward Jalen Wilson has accumulated numerous achievements and accolades during his four seasons as a Kansas Jayhawk. Not only did he experience team success by winning the NCAA championship for the 2021-22 season, he also ended his collegiate career being named first-team All-American and winning the Julius Erving award for being the small forward in the nation.

Despite everything he accomplished at Kansas, Wilson entered the 2023 NBA Draft being underrated by the masses. He helped his team win a national title as a role player and followed that up by coming back even better by becoming one of the best players in college basketball. Yet, in most mock drafts, he was projected to be a late second-round pick.

Wilson comes into the draft with four seasons under his belt, but at 22 years old, he’s considered a prospect with a low ceiling due to his size (6-foot-8 and 215 pounds) and average athleticism. Brooklyn took Wilson with the 51st overall pick and while some draft experts use his age as a knock on his NBA potential, Wilson feels that the amount of time he spent at Kansas has prepared him for the next level:

“(I) think my time at school gave me a lot of different experiences, taught me a lot of different things. I was able to do a lot of different roles. And, I just use that to my advantage. Being able to come in and play a specific role. I was able to do that on a championship team and was able to do that last year as well in a different role with being the older guy on the team. But, I look at this as an opportunity to come in and be able to do whatever I’m asked to do. I’ve been asked to do a lot of different things in my career at Kansas so I’ll be well prepared to do that here.”

Brooklyn Nets 2023 NBA Draft grades

Here are the grades for the Brooklyn Nets’ 2023 NBA Draft.

The Brooklyn Nets have officially completed their 2023 NBA Draft as they have made their three selections and have introduced those players to the media and the fanbase. To recap, the Nets had three picks in the draft: 21st overall, 22nd overall, and 51st overall.

With those picks, they selected Alabama forward Noah Clowney, Duke wing Dariq Whitehead, and Kansas forward Jalen Wilson, respectively. Now that the draft is done, the rest of the league can turn its attention to free-agency, summer league, etc.

Before we get there, it would be interesting to review Brooklyn’s draft and give out grades for each pick. The Nets did not have a lottery pick and even though there were rumors about Brooklyn packaging at least one of their picks to move up, nothing came to fruition. That will not necessarily play a part in these roles, but it should be pointed out that the Nets essentially had the chance to move up, but chose to pick players for the organization to develop:

NEW YORK — For their final draft pick of the 2023 NBA Draft, the Brooklyn Nets with a winning pedigree as a collegiate player. With the 51st overall pick in the draft, the Nets selected Kansas forward Jalen Wilson.

Wilson, 22, comes into the NBA having shown that he can be the lead guy on a Kansas team that was looking to win it all before losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Wilson, listed at 6-foot-8 and 215 pounds, enters the Brooklyn organization with experience in different roles and has been coached well by one of the best coaches in college basketball in Bill Self.

Wilson is a player who brings versatility on the offensive end as he’s able to score on the interior and is able to make an impact on the perimeter as well. Wilson proved that he was one of the best players in college basketball by being named to the All-American first-team for the 2022-23 season. What Wilson will need to improve on to stick around in the league is his three-point shooting (31.6% for his career) and being better on the defensive end.

2023 Lakers draft prospect profile: Jalen Wilson

A look at Jalen Wilson, a forward from the University of Kansas.

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to take that final step toward being once again a championship team next season. To do so, they will need more depth, especially since at least one of their key contributors from this season may leave via free agency or possibly a trade.

Even if they run it back, they could still use another strong contributor at the wing or forward position for next season but beyond.

With the No. 17 and No. 47 picks in the 2023 NBA draft, which will take place on June 22, Los Angeles could end up with at least one very serviceable player. One candidate for that No. 47 pick could be Jalen Wilson, a forward it recently worked out.

2023 NBA Mock Draft 5.0: 58 projections after the early entry withdrawal deadline

Rookie Wire took a look at where the next draft class stands following the early entry withdrawal deadline.

The NBA pre-draft process crossed another important checkpoint on the schedule with the early entry withdrawal deadline coming and going this week.

Prospects had the opportunity to test the waters and meet with teams to gain feedback on their potential draft stock. To maintain their remaining college eligibility, they had to withdraw from consideration by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.

The deadline saw several potential second-round picks withdraw from the draft and return to school. With name, image and likeness playing a prevalent role in college basketball, players were likely swayed to stay one more year to work on their games and capitalize financially.

[lawrence-related id=87858]

The 2024 draft is also projected to be weaker than in past years, which also may have played a role in some players opting against turning pro. They likely believe they will have a greater chance of being a first-round pick next year.

With several players off the board, teams can prioritize workouts and interviews with those individuals remaining in the draft. As a result, players’ stock will continue to fluctuate with less than three weeks to go until the draft.
