The Green Bay Packers have signed former New York Giants defensive back Gemon Green.
The New York Giants made six practice squad transactions following a massive 15-player workout on Thursday.
The New York Giants made several changes to their practice squad on Thursday evening, officially adding six players while releasing two others.
Offensive tackle Tyre Phillips and cornerback Gemon Green had their practice squad contracts terminated, effectively giving the Giants six open spots.
Those spots were filled by the additions of running back Taiwan Jones, cornerback Kaleb Hayes, wide receiver Dennis Houston, tight end Tyree Jackson, guard Jalen Mayfield, and tackle Jaylon Thomas.
The 35-year-old Jones, a 2011 fourth-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, provides the most NFL experience of the group.
Jones has appeared in 137 career games, playing primarily on special teams. He has a history of returning kickoffs and could be an intriguing potential option for Thomas McGaughey down the line.
Mayfield, a former third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons, is also an interesting addition. He started all 16 games at left guard in 2021 but missed last season with a lower back injury.
The roster shuffle came after the Giants hosted 15 free agents for workouts in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday.
The 15 players who worked out were Thomas, Jones, cornerbacks Kalon Barnes and D’Angelo Mandell, linebackers Milo Eifler, Aaron Patrick and Ulysees Gilbert, wide receivers T.J. Luther, Reggie Roberson, Josh Vann and Dezmon Patton, edge rusher Jeremiah Martin, quarterback Adrian Martinez, offensive lineman Lecitus Smith, and safety Mark Webb.

The New York Giants fell to the New York Jets in Week 3 of the preseason and here are 7 quick takeaways from the game.
The New York Giants dropped their preseason finale to the New York Jets, 32-24, on Saturday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Here are seven takeaways from the final game of their exhibition season.
News, notes and quotes from the final day of joint practices between the New York Giants, who rebounded nicely, and the Detroit Lions.
After a rough day on Tuesday, the New York Giants took the field for the second and final joint practice with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. They’ll enjoy an off day on Thursday before their preseason opener on Friday night.
Prior to practice, head coach Brian Daboll refused to acknowledge the struggles of his team the day prior, instead calling the joint practices “productive” multiple times.
“It’s practice so we are out here competing. I thought it was productive. We will go out here and try to have another one today,” Daboll said. “I’m not worried about chatter; I just want to go out there and have a good practice. Our guys were ready to go, I thought we had a good productive practice, and we will try to have one today.”
Lions head coach Dan Campbell said the joint practices should serve the team well enough to leave their starters out on Friday but Daboll wouldn’t commits to the same. It remains unclear who will and will not play.
“It’s just kind of like a Friday in the regular season. We’ll talk about that as a coaching staff tonight, tomorrow and come up with our decisions,” Daboll said.
Back on the field, all eyes were on quarterback Daniel Jones and the offense, who were looking to rebound from an ugly performance.
Here are some notes, takeaways, and video highlights from the final joint practice between the Giants and Lions:
They’re getting a heckuva player! #GoBlue
Though nine Michigan football players were selected in the 2023 NFL draft, one player was left out.
Fifth-year cornerback Gemon Green had an option to return to school, as his twin brother had, but he opted to move on, seeking a career at the next level. That plan didn’t quite work out as he had hoped. Seven rounds and 259 picks went by, and Green never heard his name called.
However, he will still have an opportunity to make a 53-man roster and achieve his dreams in the pro ranks.
According to MLive’s Aaron McMann, Green is signing as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants, where he’ll join former Wolverine Ben Bredeson.

Green went from being a liability in the defensive backfield to an asset within the same season. He earned his first opportunity to start in 2020, and he drew Michigan football fans’ attention for all the wrong reasons, starting in Week 2 against rival Michigan State. However, by the final game of that shortened season, Week 6 against Penn State, he was a force on the field.
He had his ups and downs, with the downs mostly being injuries in both 2021 and 2022, but he generally kept his receiver from making big plays, with a few exceptions.
Green’s counterpart, DJ Turner, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of this year’s draft.

The rush to sign undrafted rookie free agents is underway! Here’s a live 2023 tracker for the New York Giants.
The 2023 NFL draft has officially come to a close and the frenzy to sign undrafted rookie free agents (UDFA) is underway.
For general manager Joe Schoen and the New York Giants, they’ll look to add several players prior to the start of rookie mini-camp which will take place from May 5-6 in East Rutherford.
“I think you tie in free agency and you tie in the draft and I’m excited to go upstairs and see where we are on some undrafted free agents,” general manager Joe Schoen said after the draft.
It’s important to note that UDFA signings are not announced by the NFL, so some initial reports may be incorrect, changed or, unfortunately, outright faked. Until the Giants/NFL themselves announce the signings, these should all be considered rumors and subject to change.
As signings and rookie mini-camp invites are reported, we’ll update this article. So keep refreshing.

He’s been incredible for #Michigan the past few years.
After a shaky start to his Michigan football career, particularly as a starter, cornerback Gemon Green has had an upward trajectory.
Starting for the first time in 2020, Green was a liability for the first few games before standing out as the best player on defense in the season finale against Penn State. He continued that level of play in 2021 before getting injured midseason, and took it up a notch in 2022. Rarely did opposing teams throw at Green unless they had a true difference-maker at the receiver position, someone who could go up and make contested catches.
While many expected Green to stay in Ann Arbor for the upcoming season, he’s ready to test his ability at the next level. He announced on Instagram that he’s declaring for the 2023 NFL draft.

With Green and fellow starter DJ Turner departing, the Wolverines will have to rely heavily on second-year cornerback Will Johnson, who started while Green was sidelined by an injury sustained in the MSU postgame tunnel incident. From there, whether Michigan relies on a talent already on campus — whether it be Ja’Den McBurrows, Myles Pollard, freshman Jyaire Hill, or another young, untested player — will be a big unknown until, at least, spring ball.

An attorney representing a Michigan State player alleges that the tunnel incident was started by a Michigan player swinging his helmet, throwing punches
We finally have another big update from the Michigan tunnel incident, in which Michigan State football players were seen on camera attacking a Michigan player.
According to attorney Dave Diamond, who is representing one of the MSU players who were suspended, it was a Michigan football player who first ‘engaged with Spartan athletes with his helmet and swinging a punch.’ The release also states ‘the UM player started the altercation.’
This would be a major update to a story that has largely placed the Michigan football players as victims of an attack by the Spartans. It will be up to the legal process and the footage and eye witnesses they have available to corroborate these claims, but this is certainly a major update in this story and will be one to continue monitoring.

REPORT: Member of Gemon Green’s family, Michigan student-athlete attempted to attack Michigan State football TE Maliq Carr
The aftermath of the now-infamous Michigan-Michigan State football tunnel incident following their rivalry game had grown quiet. It seems coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans are intent on letting law enforcement handle the investigation rather than contribute to hearsay and rumors.
Until Friday.
Twitter user @dhagg42 reported an unnamed member of Gemon Green’s family, who is also a Michigan student-athlete, attempted to attack Michigan State tight end Maliq Carr as he was attempting to board the MSU team bus. The story has been corroborated and confirmed by Maliq Carr’s family.
This incident would have happened after the tunnel incident.
As MSU football players were getting on their team buses, a member of the Green family and U of M student athlete attempted to attack MSU student-athlete Maliq Carr. Thankfully, Michigan State Police officers were able to intervene and prevent anything from escalating.

As many rumors are swirling about what actually happened outside of the extremely concerning footage, this is another domino to fall as we wait for more information to be revealed in what was a traumatic night for a rivalry that has gotten quite ugly.

Good. #GoBlue
More consequences are potentially coming for some of the Michigan State players involved in Saturday night’s tunnel incident.
Thus far, four of the players that had attacked Michigan cornerback Ja’Den McBurrows have been suspended immediately and indefinitely by the MSU program as the Spartans begin to sort things out. However, the two unidentified players who were seen bludgeoning cornerback Gemon Green could be in even more of a world of hurt.
According to ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren, Green’s parents will indeed press charges in the MSU players involved in hurting their son. Other charges could be filed by other entities, such as the state, but that’s notable that charges will be filed in one way or the other.
I spoke to the father of Gemon Green, the Michigan football player hit with a helmet in the tunnel. He said the family is planning to press charges and take legal action on those involved.
He said Gemon was struck with a helmet in the face, back and shoulder.
