Giants injury report: Azeez Ojulari designated to return from IR

New York Giants LB Azeez Ojulari was designated to return from injured reserve (IR) and returned to practice on Wednesday.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday and looked like an entirely different team from just a week ago.

Quarterbacks Daniel Jones (knee) and Tyrod Taylor (ribs) are both on injured reserve, ushering in the era of Tommy DeVito and Matt Barkley, who was signed from the practice squad earlier in the day.

Additionally, right tackle Evan Neal, who suffered a second knee injury in Week 9, is considered “week-to-week” according to head coach Brian Daboll.

On the positive end of things, linebacker Azeez Ojulari was designated to return from injured reserve and returned to practice on Wednesday.

“Hopefully he’ll be ready to go this week,” Daboll said.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Evan Neal (knee), CB Adoree’ Jackson (concussion), RB Deon Jackson (concussion), OL Sean Harlow, (personal), NT Dexter Lawrence (rest)

Cowboys lose backup offensive lineman to Giants

From @ToddBrock24f7: Sean Harlow had joined Dallas as practice squad OL depth; now he’ll return to the Giants as an injury replacement for guard Shane Lemieux.

The Cowboys have lost a piece of offensive line depth. What’s worse, he’s going (back) to a divisional foe.

The New York Giants signed Sean Harlow off the Dallas practice squad on Thursday, per NFL insider Tom Pelissero. He’ll take the roster spot formerly occupied by Big Blue veteran guard Shane Lemieux, who tore a biceps during practice this week and was placed on injured reserve.

Harlow had been listed as a center and joined the Cowboys practice squad in late September after starter Tyler Biadasz hurt a hamstring in a practice injury of his own. Harlow was elevated for the team’s Week 3 contest versus Arizona but did not play in the game.

The Oregon State product also has experience at guard, where he’s expected to play for New York.

The fourth-round draft pick from 2017 already did a stint with the Giants during the summer, lasting four weeks before being released as part of that club’s final roster cuts.

Coincidentally, the Cowboys just worked out eight free agents on Wednesday. While none is a marquee name, three of them are guards and another plays tackle.

And now there’s an open spot on the practice squad.

Giants place Shane Lemieux on IR with torn biceps

The New York Giants have placed OL Shane Lemieux on injured reserve after he suffered a torn biceps during practice on Wednesday.

The New York Giants continue to suffer injuries along their offensive line, announcing on Thursday that Shane Lemieux has been placed on injured reserve (IR) with a torn biceps.

Lemieux, who had appeared in four games with one start for the Giants this season, suffered the injury during Wednesday’s practice.

Over his four-year career, Lemieux has been limited to just 18 games (12 starts) due to injuries. He dealt with a patellar tendon issue in 2021 and then was limited to just one game last season as the result of a toe injury.

Lemieux joins J.C. Hassenauer and Joshua Ezeudu as members of the team’s offensive line currently on IR.

In addition to the group on IR, offensive linemen Andrew Thomas (hamstring), Evan Neal (ankle), Matt Peart (shoulder), John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) and Mark Glowinski (quad/ankle) all currently appear on the injury report.

In a corresponding roster move, the Giants have signed offensive lineman Sean Harlow from the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.

Harlow, a fourth-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2017 NFL draft, spent time with the Giants in August. He was released as a part of final cuts. He signed with the Cowboys a day later.

The New York Giants defeated the Carolina Panthers, 21-19, in their preseason meeting at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Friday night.

It was an impressive showing for the first-team units, especially on offense, and provides the Giants a lot to build upon entering the final week of the preseason.

Here are seven takeaways from the Giants’ Week 2 preseason dub.

Giants place center J.C. Hassenauer on IR, sign Sean Harlow

The Giants made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, putting J.C. Hassenauer on IR and signing Sean Harlow to replace him at center

The New York Giants placed center J.C. Hassenauer (torn triceps) on injured reserve and signed journeyman center Sean Harlow on Tuesday, shuffling their roster in training camp.

Hassenauer, who was signed this offseason as a depth player along the line, tore his triceps on Sunday. Head coach Brian Daboll announced that he would be out “long term.” By going on IR, Hassenauer will miss the entire 2023 season.

Harlow, 28, was among four players brought in by the Giants on Monday for a tryout. He is a seven-year veteran who was a fourth-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons out of Oregon State back in 2017. He has also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, and most recently, the Arizona Cardinals.

Harlow has played in 33 regular season NFL games, starting eight.

Backup center is Cardinals’ biggest hole in offensive personnel

If the season started today, Sean Harlow would be the Cardinals’ backup center. He is listed at only 284 lbs.

The Arizona Cardinals have addressed the entire starting lineup on offense this offseason, although they added only one new player. They re-signed James Conner, Zach Ertz, Maxx Williams and A.J. Green.

While they added guard Will Hernandez, they also lost guard Max Garcia, running back Chase Edmonds and receiver Christian Kirk to other teams.

There are still some questions for the roster on offense, but one role remains unfilled.

With Garcia leaving, the Cardinals don’t have a backup center. With Josh Jones and Justin Murray, they have backup guards and tackles, but no one you want to count on at center.

If the season started now, Sean Harlow, who weighs in at a lean 284 pounds and who struggled in his start at center last season, would be the backup to starter Rodney Hudson.

The only other center on the roster is Marcus Henry, a 6-2, 302-pounder who has six NFL games under his belt and a total of four offensive snaps.

We can expect to see the Cardinals draft a center or add someone in free agency later on.

Cardinals activate OL Sean Harlow from COVID list

The Cardinals have four players from the 53-man roster remaining on the COVID list heading into the weekend.

The Arizona Cardinals had five players get placed on the COVID list this week after testing positive for the virus. One of them is coming back.

The team announced that offensive lineman Sean Harlow was activated from the COVID list. That leaves four players still on it. He was placed on the list on Monday along with outside linebacker Markus Golden.

There is the chance that Golden could be activated and be able to play this week.

Harlow will help with the offensive line depth, although he doesn’t usually start unless there is an injury. The Cardinals will be down a starting offensive lineman because left tackle D.J. Humphries tested positive and was placed on the list on Thursday. He will not be able to play Sunday, meaning the team will have to shuffle things around on the offensive line. Center Rodney Hudson returned, so four of the five starters will be in the lineup.

Arizona’s four players remaining on the COVID list are Humphries, Golden, cornerback Breon Borders and linebacker Devon Kennard. Safety Javon Hagan is on the practice squad COVID list.

Cardinals must add at least one O-lineman to roster for game vs. Jaguars

They will only have seven linemen available on Sunday. We should see Sean Harlow elevated from the practice squad.

The Arizona Cardinals enter Week 3 thin on the offensive line. Two players — guard Brian Winters and tackle Josh Miles — have been ruled out of the game. Another — right tackle Kelvin Beachum — is questionable and will be a game-day decision Sunday.

If Beachum is active, and he likely will be, the team only has seven healthy offensive linemen.

Teams can have up to 47 players active for games, but they are required to have at least eight offensive linemen available to play.

Winters is the Cardinals’ primary backup at both guard positions.

The Cardinals protected practice squad offensive lineman Sean Harlow earlier this week, so it would appear likely we can expect him to be elevated to the roster on Saturday.

That would give the Cardinals a starting lineup of left tackle D.J. Humphries, left guard Justin Pugh, center Rodney Hudson, right guard Josh Jones and either Beachum or Justin Murray at right tackle. Whoever doesn’t start at right tackle will be the primary backup at tackle, Harlow would back up at the guard positions and Max Garcia would be the backup center.

Harlow has played one NFL game. The former fourth-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 played one offensive snap in 2019.

If elevated on Sunday, he will likely see time on special teams on the kicking team.
