FINAL betting odds for Florida vs Missouri, per BetMGM

Heading into the final hours before kickoff, the Florida Gators added a half-point to the spread

Gameday is finally here and all systems appear to be “go” for this evening’s matchup between the Florida Gators and Missouri Tigers, in a game originally scheduled for last weekend but was postponed due to an outbreak of the novel coronavirus on UF’s squad.

While the virus still rages on the roster, Florida will field at least the minimum of 53 scholarship players required by the Southeastern Conference. Despite this, the Gators managed to get a half-point boost over yesterday’s numbers with mere hours remaining before kickoff.

According to BetMGM, Florida is a 14-point favorite according to BetMGM. The over/under is 61.5.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, and it will be televised on the SEC Network.

Packers at Texans: TV schedule, streaming, how to watch

How to watch, stream or listen to the Packers’ Week 7 matchup against the Texans. Includes TV coverage map.

The Green Bay Packers (4-1) stay on the road in Week 7 after being handed their first loss last week at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2). The Packers can regain momentum this week against Deshaun Watson and the struggling Houston Texans (1-5).

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have an opportunity to bounce back against a terrible Texans defense. The Houston run defense is ranked last in the league and allows an average of 5.4 yards per carry. Even if Aaron Jones can’t go on Sunday, Jamaal Williams and rookie A.J. Dillion should be licking their chops for this matchup.

On the other side of the ball, Watson presents a unique threat for a Packers defense that played an uninspiring three quarters last week.

FOX will broadcast the game. Kenny Albert (play-by-play) will be joined by Jonathan Vilma (analyst) in the booth with Shannon Spake reporting from the sidelines.

The game can be heard over Milwaukee’s WTMJ (620 AM) and the Packers Radio Network, which is made up of 50 stations in five states. Wayne Larrivee (play-by-play) and Larry McCarren (analyst) will call the action over the air with former Packer John Kuhn reporting from the sidelines. The matchup will also be broadcasted on the WTMJ feed of Sirius Satellite Radio.

Texas Football: Longhorns social media buzz ahead of kickoff

Gameday is finally upon us with the Baylor Bears and Texas Longhorns set to play at 2:30 CDT. What is the buzz around social media

Gameday is finally upon us with the Baylor Bears visiting the Texas Longhorns. Both teams coming in off a bye, and both coming in off losses in overtime. This isn’t exactly a must win game for Baylor but you can make the argument for it.

For Texas it definitely has the feel of a must win game. While Baylor is in the first year of the Dave Aranda era, the Longhorns are halfway through year four of the Tom Herman Era. Fans are growing restless as it seems the same issues popping up week after week, year after year.

Hopefully a change in uniform can start this team trending in the right direction. The Longhorns will wear white jerseys at home for the first time since 1950. If that is what it  takes for the home team to kickstart a run then so be it.

As Deion Sanders once said “look good, feel good, play good.” You can’t deny that these throwbacks look really good. It is definitely one jersey combination that should be a regular in the rotation, especially if they win wearing them.

Sports superstitions and such, it means a lot to some. Let’s see how it all goes down for the Longhorns on Saturday.

College Gameday heads north next weekend

ESPN’s College Gameday will be headed north next weekend as the Big Ten opens up their 2020 football season.

So far this season it’s been a lot of time in the south for ESPN’s College Gameday crew.

This season has so far seen ESPN’s Saturday show take the road to:

  • Wake Forest (vs. No. 1 Clemson)
  • Louisville (vs. Miami)
  • Miami (vs. Florida State)
  • Georgia (vs. Auburn)
  • Clemson (vs. Miami)
  • Alabama (vs. Georgia)

This week will be the furthest north the show has gone this year as it welcomes back the Big Ten with the biggest game on the conference schedule for the weekend.

Minnesota vs. Michigan for the Little Brown Jug is the game that will be featured up in Minneapolis.

Just a heads up – if you’re not a fan of college football coaches that love to hear themselves talk then it might be a good week to stay away from ESPN and College Gameday.

Rookie Expectations for Lions at Cardinals in Week 3

Expect the Detroit Lions to get a lot of work from their rookies against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, with two of them destined for starting roles.

The Detroit Lions are headed to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 of the 2020 season. Expect the Lions to get a lot of work from five if their rookies, with two of them destined for starting roles.

Let’s take a look at what we’re expecting out of the Lions’ rookies today:

CB Jeff Okudah

Okudah’s NFL debut last week was nothing to write home about. The rookie had a tough assignment to cover three-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams and was left in the agile receiver’s dust on multiple plays.

This week, with Desmond Trufant ruled OUT, Okudah will potentially have to cover the Cardinals DeAndre Hopkins, one of the league’s best wide receivers. Hopkins has caught 88-percent of passes thrown his way for 219 yards and a touchdown over the last two games. The three-time first-team All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler makes the best defensive backs in the NFL look like rookies, so Okudah could be in for a long day.

Expect Okudah to start at cornerback this week, but don’t expect him to have much success against Arizona’s offense.

RB D’Andre Swift

Swift has had quite the rollercoaster of a rookie season so far. After scoring his first career touchdown and later dropping a would-be game-winning touchdown in Week 1, Swift went on to catch five passes for 60 yards a week later.

This week, he will go up against the Arizona Cardinals defense, which has allowed an average of almost 80 receiving yards by running backs so far this season.

Despite playing behind Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson on the depth chart, Swift is one of the top contributors on Detroit’s offense.

Given that Swift appears to have cemented his role as a receiving option from the backfield, expect him to make an impact during this matchup in Arizona.

RG Jonah Jackson

Jackson has started at right guard for the past two games and has held his own for the most part, only allowing one sack on Matthew Stafford and committing one false start penalty in those two games.

His run blocking has looked promising thus far, as the Lions’ running backs have performed well over the last two weeks. Arizona’s defense is credited with seven sacks and 14 quarterback hits so far this season, so Jackson will have a lot on his plate this week.

Expect Jackson to start at right guard again in this game versus Arizona. His successes in both run and pass blocking could improve if right tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai is active.

JACK Julian Okwara

Okwara took just seven snaps on defense in Week 1 and was inactive the following week. While it is unclear whether or not he’ll take the field on Sunday, it is near-certain that he be contributing very little on defense.

OL Logan Stenberg

Stenberg has yet to play a snap as a pro, and that isn’t likely to change this week. If he is active, he will be sitting behind both Kenny Wiggins and Oday Aboushi on the depth chart.

WR Quintez Cephus

Cephus has been getting some playing time with the first-team offense while Kenny Golladay was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Golladay appears to be ready to make his debut this season, so Cephus will likely be demoted back to the fourth-option.

NT John Penisini

Penisini will once again serve as the backup nose tackle behind Danny Shelton on the defensive line. The rookie has taken just 27 defensive snaps this season but has yet to record any stats. With Arizona’s starting center Mason Cole ruled out for this game, Penisini and the Lions defensive line may have more opportunities to make plays against the run.

TE Hunter Bryant

The undrafted tight end has been ruled out once again due to his hamstring injury. This is the third week in a row he will be unable to play.

Alabama coach Nick Saban appears on College Gameday

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban made his season debut on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning.

Alabama head football coach Nick Saban made his season debut on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday morning. The Gameday crew was in Wake Forest, North Carolina for the Clemson vs. Wake Forest matchup today.

Saban, who has made regular appearances on the show, even shared how excited he was to be back on the show because of what it means:

“The most significant thing is seeing you guys. When I see you guys, I know college football is back.”

Alabama, who is one of the favorites to reach the college football playoff this season, has had to adjust a lot this season, just like every other team.

Here’s what Saban said regarding how the Crimson Tide has had to adjust with the. college football schedule:

“It’s been a little different, uncertainty for players. Whether the COVID issues, practice being spread out, not really having a normal fall camp, social issues, NFL issues relative to players opting out. There’s been a lot of distractions, but I’ve been really pleased with how our players have sort of adapted and adjusted and just kind of gone with the flow. I think we’ve made some improvement along the way. It’s been good for players not to have camp in a way, especially withe uncertainties, because we haven’t had to practice day in and day out. We’ve been able to give them a lot of days off, so I think that’s been good for their health and safety.”

And as for Alabama’s practices, Saban shared how the Crimson Tide has done their best to help the players adjust during those as well:

“Really, what happens on the field the technical aspects is relatively the same. That hasn’t changed much. Whether it’s wearing masks or keeping guys separated when they’re not in drills, the protocols we have to go through with testing, what we do in meetings in terms of social distancing — all those things that have happened off the field has made things a little different, but what happens on the field has not really been that much affected from the technical aspects of the game.”

All in all, Saban has made it clear that the Crimson Tide is excited to play this season, and that his players have done their best to make the best out of the current situations.

Alabama will play in a scrimmage later on Saturday, and will open up their season against Missouri on September 26th, for the start of their conference only schedule.

Roll Tide Wire will keep you up to date with the very latest!

Packers at Vikings: TV schedule, streaming, how to watch

How to watch, listen or stream the Packers’ Week 1 matchup against the Vikings on Sept. 13, 2020.

The Green Bay Packers open up the 2020 season on the road Sunday against their division rival, the Minnesota Vikings. Despite initial fears of a delayed or lost season, the NFL is on track to begin.

The Packers own a 1-3 record at U.S. Bank Stadium and has never opened a season at Minnesota before this matchup. The Packers earned their first win at the venue last season in a convincing defeat of Mike Zimmer’s squad,    23-10. Za’Darius Smith had 3.5 of the defense’s five sacks of Kirk Cousins and Aaron Jones ran for 154 yards and two scores on the ground.

The Packers will see a different looking Minnesota defense this Sunday after the Vikings lost a host of defensive starters including defensive end Everson Griffen, defensive lineman Linval Joseph, cornerbacks Trae Waynes, Mackensie Alexander and Xavier Rhodes. The team will also be without defensive end Danielle Hunter for this game.

One new face on the defensive line will be Yannick Ngakoue, who was traded to Minnesota from Jacksonville in late August. Ngakoue has 37.5 career sacks and 14 forced fumbles since he was drafted as a third-round pick in 2016. Don’t be surprised to see him lined up across from whoever the Packers start at right tackle.

The Packers have lost a few core players themselves, but not as many. Starters Blake Martinez and Bryan Bulaga both departed for other teams, while Tramon Williams remains unsigned. Offseason acquisition Christian Kirksey replaces Martinez in the middle of the defense.

Green Bay will head back to Lambeau Field in Week 2 to face the Detroit Lions. This is the third year in a row the Packers have opened the season against two NFC North opponents.

FOX will broadcast the game. Chris Myers (play-by-play) will be joined by analysts Greg Jennings and Brock Huard in the booth with Jen Hale reporting from the sidelines.

The game can be heard over Milwaukee’s WTMJ (620 AM) and the Packers Radio Network, which is made up of 50 stations in five states. Wayne Larrivee (play-by-play) and Larry McCarren (analyst) will call the action over the air. The matchup will also be broadcasted by ESPN Radio and the WTMJ feed of Sirius Satellite Radio.

Notre Dame Football: It’s Safe to Say Brian Kelly Disagrees with Kirk Herbstreit

Thursday saw Brian Kelly make an appearance on the SportsBeat on 96.1 FM in South Bend and the Notre Dame football coach was asked about Herbstreit’s comments.  Let’s just say – it’s safe to believe he doesn’t so much agree with the ESPN analyst.

Last week Kirk Herbstreit was on ESPN Radio and was asked his thoughts on the chances of football, pro or college being played as we know it this fall.  Herbstreit offered is opinion and it didn’t come with much optimism.

Listen, I hope like all getup that Kelly is right and that college football goes off without a hitch in 2020.  I do however also think it’s a bit wrong to go after Herbstreit this hard for answering the question he was asked.

Look at New York City, look at Florida largely shutting down the state today and look how big everything involving Corona-virus has become.  Now do you think it’s a two foot putt that college football will operate as normal with 80,000 or so fans packing stadiums all over the country?

Herbstreit is an educated man who happens to cover college football and usually does a very good job of that.  Just because his profession is in sports doesn’t mean he isn’t informed enough to think logically on his own.  I get why Kelly is upset but it doesn’t take a scientist or doctor to figure out that there is a growing chance that Herbstreit is right.

The city of Toronto has shutdown regular operations until at least June 1.  Kelly goes on to say that ideally, workouts would begin by the middle of June in order to get things timed out perfectly for college football.  He already stated previously with Scott Van Pelt of SportsCenter that July 1 would be the necessary date to get things going by in order for a regular season schedule to be played.

Again, I can’t put into words how much I hope Herbstreit is wrong.  It’d mean good news for a nation and a world that could use some right now and it’d mean that we’ve largely beat a pandemic nationwide.  I hope and pray for that to be the case, but again, I’d be lying if I said I was optimistic in it happening.

We’ll post a link to the entire Brian Kelly interview once it gets posted to their website.  We’ll also look at what else the Notre Dame head coach had to say in a later post so be on the lookout for that this evening.  Stay safe and have a good night. -NS

Instant analysis of Seattle’s 30-24 win over Carolina

The Seattle Seahawks finished the 2019 season with a 7-1 record on the road, the best in franchise history, with a win over the Panthers.

Despite being without four defensive starters, and losing Quandre Diggs for most of the second half, the Seattle Seahawks handled their business on both sides of the ball and earned themselves a 30-24 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

A 30-10 lead turned into a narrow 30-24 win after Seattle’s defense – without Bobby Wagner, who left the game with an ankle injury – gave up two touchdowns in the final five minutes of the game.

Regardless, the Seahawks finish the season with a 7-1 record on the road, including going 5-0 in 10:00 a.m. starts.

After not scoring a touchdown against the Rams last week, the Seahawks wasted no time putting six on the board, scoring on their opening drive after Chris Carson ran it in from 16 yards out. It was clear right from the get-go that Seattle would be able to gain yards on the ground all game long, with Carson gaining 47 rushing yards on the opening drive.

He finished with 24 carries for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Seattle also did plenty of damage through the air, with Russell Wilson finding DK Metcalf on the following drive for a touchdown to go up 13-0. After a strong drive from the Panthers, led almost exclusively by Christian McCaffrey, the Seahawks scored again on a connection from Wilson to Tyler Lockett, giving them a 20-7 lead heading into halftime.

Things got interesting late in the third quarter when linebacker K.J. Wright picked off Kyle Allen for Seattle’s second interception of the game. The Seahawks gave it right back after trying a trick play with receiver Josh Gordon throwing a deep pass to Metcalf that was picked off by Tre Boston.

However, on the next play, Wright picked off Allen yet again for the third interception in five plays – and the second by Wright. Seattle got a field goal out of it, to go up 23-10.

Seattle nearly had an interception on a third consecutive drive, with Ugo Amadi appearing to pick off Allen and take it in for a touchdown, but replay review overturned the call after the ball bounced.

The fourth quarter saw Seattle let Carolina right back into the game, as the team’s makeshift defense (down six starters on the final few drives) couldn’t stop McCaffrey, D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel.

The loss of Diggs and Wagner is the major downside of this game, and as of this writing it is unclear what their status is for Week 16’s matchup with the Cardinals.

However, the good news is the Seahawks (11-3) will officially clinch a playoff spot if either the Vikings or Rams lose their games today against the Chargers and Cowboys, respectively.

Falcons QB Matt Ryan on his mindset: ‘I go out there to play to win’

After the game, Ryan talked about playing with a desire to win, regardless of circumstance, which you can see below as tweeted by ESPN’s Vaughn McClure:

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan did not play his best game on Sunday, although he was running for his life for most of the day.

The team allowed six sacks and Ryan only completed 50 percent of his passes, with no touchdowns and an interception in Atlanta’s 35-22 loss to the Bucs.

After the game, Ryan talked about playing with a desire to win regardless of circumstance, which you can see in the below tweet from ESPN’s Vaughn McClure:
