Nick Saban, Lane Kiffin clear up sign stealing

On Monday, both Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin cleared up the confusion around whether or not Lane Kiffin stole Alabama’s signals.

After Alabama’s 63-48 win over the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday night, Saban shared his frustration for how the defense played and even questioned if Ole Miss had their signals:

We didn’t do anything well. It seemed like everything we did, they had an answer for. I don’t know if they had our signals or what but, I’m not… that’s not anything unusual but it seemed like every time we called something, they had the best play that they could have against it. And they had a really good plan and Lane is a really good coach.”

And Alabama senior linebacker Dylan Moses blamed Lane Kiffin’s time at Alabama for knowing the defense so well:

“There were a lot of things we had to adjust to. And like I said, it didn’t help that Coach Kiffin was our coach for like three years and knows the ins and outs of our defense. So there are a lot of things we need to change up, the signals and all that because I’m pretty sure they were watching it. But we have to do better overall collectively.

Like, he (Lane Kiffin) was our coach for three years. I wasn’t here when they were here but if you were a coach somewhere for three years, I’m sure you would pick up the signals.”

By late Saturday night, Lane Kiffin himself made it clear on Twitter that he didn’t steal Alabama’s signals:

So on Monday, during Alabama’s weekly press conference, Nick Saban cleared up the confusion by what he meant on Saturday night:

“Some of that is our issue in terms of how we disguise things. They were going fast. We were struggling to get lined up and we didn’t do a very good job of disguising things. So they were able to take advantage of a lot of situations. They know us well, so all those things contributed to me feeling a little bit like we were one play behind.”

Kiffin followed suit during his own press conference, and once again, made it clear that they didn’t steal anything:

“We call a play basically before the last play is even over. Before they mark the ball, we call our play. Then they scramble to get their play called. They’re just trying to get their guys lined up. It wouldn’t do us any good. By the time someone would relay that to us, we’re already snapping the ball.”

At the end of the day, we won’t truly ever know if Kiffin “stole” Alabama’s play calls.

But one thing we for sure know: Alabama has a lot of improvements to make on defense before the Crimson Tide faces Georgia on Saturday.

Nick Saban agrees.

“The only mistake that would be is that we don’t learn from the mistakes that we made so that we can get better in the future, work harder at making corrections and get everybody to be responsible to do their job a little bit better, coaches and players included. That’s the way we can improve.”

Alabama hosts the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

After an incredible performance on Saturday night against the Ole Miss Rebels, Najee Harris was named the SEC offensive player of the week on Monday.

Harris finished the game with a career-high 23 carries for 206 yards and 5 touchdowns, and he truly carried the team on his back.

Harris, who averaged 9.0 yards per carry, also recorded three receptions for 42 yards.

Last season, Harris’ role became more dominant on offense, especially after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a season-ending injury. Harris finished last season with 1,224 yards rushing on 209 carries. He had a career-best 13 touchdowns.

And this year, it looks as though he’s just getting started. His role is more prominent with Mac Jones’ style of play.

Considering last year, Harris only had 13 touchdowns, and so far in three games this year, Harris has already recorded 10 touchdowns.

LOOK: Alabama fans go crazy over #FirePeteGolding

Here are just a few of the many tweets Alabama fans have tweeted with how they feel about Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Ole Miss Rebels, 63-48, on Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi in a very high scoring game.

Although the Tide won, it didn’t feel like a win to Nick Saban, the players, and to many fans.

Much of the blame went to Alabama’s defense who gave up 658 total yards, and who let Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral throw for 380 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Simply put, this was one of Alabama’s worst defensive performances we’ve seen in years, and fans weren’t having it.

Even before halftime, fans took to Twitter to share their frustration with how the defense was playing, and even more so, how much they wanted Pete Golding to be replaced.

And by the end of halftime, the hashtag, #FirePeteGolding, was trending.

And it still is.

Here are just a few of the many tweets Alabama fans have tweeted with how they feel about Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding:

As you can see, Alabama fans are frustrated, and it’s understandable.

In years past, Alabama has been known as having one of the best defenses in the nation.

And they gave up 48 points against an unranked Ole Miss team.

Even Nick Saban’s postgame interview made it seem like it wasn’t a win.

Regardless, Alabama has several issues they need to fix on defense. The lack of tackling, the miscommunication, and the busted coverage have to be fixed before the Crimson Tide faces the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

What do you think?

Do you think it’s time for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide to find a new defensive coordinator?

Postgame report: Alabama vs. Ole Miss

The Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Ole Miss Rebels, but it wasn’t pretty.

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Ole Miss Rebels, 63-48, on Saturday in Oxford, Mississppi in a very high scoring game.

This was the Tide’s fifth straight time beating the Ole Miss Rebels.

And it was the first time that Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin faced each other as head coached since 2009 when Kiffin was the head coach at Tennessee.

Led by senior quarterback Mac Jones, the Tide had a combined 723 offensive yards. Jones went 28 of 32 passes for 417 yards and 2 touchdowns.

As for the running game, Alabama moved the ball well, and more often than we’ve seen in previous seasons. Najee Harris carried the team on his back and finished the game with a career high 23 carries for 206 yards and 5 touchdowns. Brian Robinson Jr. also had 10 carries for 76 yards and 1 touchdown as well.

Also on offense, Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith both put up impressive numbers against the Rebels. emerged as one of the best players of the night once again. Smith finished with 13 receptions for 164 yards and 1 touchdown. Waddle also had 6 carries for 120 yards.

Defensively, Alabama struggled more than they have in a long time. It was a poor defensive performance for the Crimson Tide. Not only did Alabama give up 658 total yards, but they often gave up big plays, and created costly mistakes.

Rebels’ quarterback Matt Corral finished the game going 22 of 29 for 380 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Defense is going to be a major area of growth for the Crimson Tide as they prepare to face the Georgia Bulldogs next weekend in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

All in all, Alabama won the game, but it certainly won’t feel like a win to Nik Saban. Najee Harris and Mac Jones showed consistency and leadership, and led the Tide to a 3-0 start to the season.

Simply put, this was a tough road game for Alabama.

The Crimson Tide has a lot to work on before they face the Georgia Bulldogs in Tuscaloosa next Saturday.

WATCH: Najee Harris scores fourth rushing touchdown of the night

The Alabama Crimson Tide is showing the Ole Miss Rebels that they aren’t going down without a fight, especially with

Alabama senior running back Najee Harris CANNOT BE STOPPED!!!

I mean for real, he is on fire tonight, and will no doubt be the MVP of the Alabama offense tonight.

He is putting on a show against Ole Miss, and it still seems that he’s nowhere near finished.

For the fourth time tonight, Najee found his way once again into the end zone, this time with a 16-yard rushing touchdown.

And with plenty of game left to be played in the matchup, there’s no telling how many more times Harris will find his way into the end zone for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Harris is carrying this Alabama team on his back, and his stats back it up.

So far in the game, Najee has 18 carries for 145 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Last season, Harris’ role became more dominant on offense, especially after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a season-ending injury. Harris finished the season with 1,224 yards rushing on 209 carries. He had a career-best 13 touchdowns.

It will be exciting to see what Jones, Harris, and the Crimson Tide can do this season.

WATCH: Mac Jones connects with TE Miller Forristall for 3 yard TD pass

A 3-yard TD pass from Mac Jones to Miller Forristall to put the Crimson Tide back on top, 35-28 with 10 minutes to go in the third quarter.

After a shaky first half, the Alabama Crimson Tide has emerged from halftime a more determined team, on offense at least.

Within the first 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter, Alabama has found its way into the endzone twice.

The first touchdown of the second half was an impressive 41-yard touchdown run by Najee Harris.

This time, it was a 3-yard touchdown pass from Mac Jones to Miller Forristall to put the Crimson Tide back on top, 35-28 with 10 minutes to go in the third quarter.

Forristall, who is a 5th-year senior, has continued to make his presence known this season.

In this game alone, he has recorded 2 receptions for 16 yards and 1 touchdown.

Watch the Jones-Forristall connection for yourself:

Let’s see if the Crimson Tide can keep this momentum going!

WATCH: Najee Harris starts second half with huge 41 yard TD run

Alabama senior running back Najee Harris once again found his way int the end zone, this time with a HUGE 41-yard touchdown run.

Alabama senior running back Najee Harris once again found his way int the end zone, this time with a HUGE 41-yard touchdown run.

This is Harris’ second touchdown of the night against Ole Miss.

So far in the game, Harris has 13 carries for 114 yards for 2 touchdowns.

But let’s be honest, he’s just getting started.

We knew coming into the game Alabama would be more dominant on the ground than in previous seasons due to the depth at running back as well as the role of quarterback Mac Jones. But it also has to do with the weather conditions today in Oxford, Mississippi as Hurricane Delta has soaked the Southeast in rain.

Last season Harris’ role became more dominant on offense, especially after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a season-ending injury. Harris finished the season with 1,224 yards rushing on 209 carries. He had a career-best 13 touchdowns.

In his career, he has over 2,300 rushing yards and 20 TDs, as well as over 350 receiving yards with another 7 TDs.

It will be exciting to see what Jones, Harris and the Crimson Tide can do this season.
