Bucs to sign OG Logan Stenberg to practice squad

The Bucs are shoring up offensive line depth with a new additon to the practice squad.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are addressing defensive line depth with a practice squad signing.

ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday that the Bucs are expected to sign offensive guard Logan Stenberg to their practice squad. Tampa Bay has a free spot on the practice squad after the team released offensive lineman John Molchon earlier in the week.

Stenberg was a fourth-round pick for the Detroit Lions in 2020 coming out of Kentucky. He started four games for the Lions last year before being picked up and subsequently waived by the Chicago Bears in 2023. Stenberg tried out for the Bucs last week and is now officially being signed to the practice squad following that.

Ex-Lions OL Logan Stenberg claimed off waivers by the Chicago Bears

Stenberg was waived by Detroit this week after three unimpressive seasons

A day after being waived by the Lions, offensive lineman Logan Stenberg has found a new NFL home. The fourth-year guard was claimed off waivers by the Lions’ NFC North rival in Chicago.

The Bears put in the top waiver claim for Stenberg. Detroit’s fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft out of Kentucky couldn’t ever translate his power and tenacity into functional enough blocking with the Lions to be more than a backup. He had fallen to the bottom of the team’s OL depth chart this summer, with endemic holding issues hindering Stenberg’s game.

The Bears waived rookie WR Aron Cruickshank to make room for Stenberg. Chicago has the top waiver claim position by virtue of finishing with the NFL’s worst record in 2022.

Bears claim OL Logan Stenberg, waive WR Aron Cruickshank

The Bears are bringing in reinforcements on the offensive line ahead of their preseason opener.

The Chicago Bears made a roster move ahead of their preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. The team announced they claimed former Detroit Lions offensive guard Logan Stenberg off waivers. To make room for Stenberg, the team waived wide receiver Aron Cruickshank.

Stenberg was a fourth-round pick of the Lions in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. He played sparingly his first couple of years as a reserve before earning more reps this past season. Stenberg played in 16 games and started four of them at right guard.

After two consecutive starts early in the season, Stenberg was benched in favor of Evan Brown due to his struggles. He saw little playing time on offense after that and allowed two sacks and committed three penalties, earning a PFF grade of just 39.3. He was waived earlier in the week following a joint practice with the New York Giants.

Now Stenberg comes to the Bears to battle for a roster spot. With starting right guard Nate Davis and backups Lucas Patrick missing a handful of practices, the addition of Stenberg could indicate the Bears need reinforcements at the position. Second-year guard Ja’Tyre Carter has been taking snaps with the first-team offense as of late.

With Stenberg coming in, Cruickshank is on his way out. The undrafted free agent out of Rutgers made a couple eye-popping catches early on in camp but he was always a longshot to make the roster. He’ll look to catch on elsewhere with plenty of preseason left to go. The Bears begin their preseason slate of games against the Titans on Saturday at noon. CT.

Lions officially sign QB Teddy Bridgewater in flurry of roster moves

The Detroit Lions officially sign QB Teddy Bridgewater and RB Benny Snell in a series of roster moves

The suspense over Teddy Bridgewater is now complete. The veteran QB has officially signed with the Detroit Lions.

Bridgewater’s signing was one of a few roster moves announced by the Lions on Thursday morning. Detroit also signed free agent RB Benny Snell, while also placing running back Justin Jackson on the reserve/retired list. The Lions also waived offensive lineman Logan Stenberg, a move that was previously reported.

Bridgewater will immediately step into the backup QB competition with Nate Sudfeld and Adrian Martinez. He is not expected to play against the New York Giants in the preseason opener on Friday night.

Jackson’s apparent retirement is a surprising development. He had just recently re-signed with the team and was working as the first-team kick returner, a role he also held in 2022.

Report: The Lions are waiving OL Logan Stenberg

The Detroit Lions are reportedly waiving OL Logan Stenberg after the joint practices with the New York Giants

The Logan Stenberg experiment in Detroit is coming to an end. As first reported by Eric Woodyard of ESPN and confirmed by an independent source, the Lions are waiving the interior offensive lineman in advance of Friday’s preseason matchup with the New York Giants.

Stenberg was a fourth-round pick out of Kentucky in the 2020 NFL draft. He spent most of his three seasons in Detroit as a backup guard, with three starts — all in 2022.

He’d been repping all of training camp with the final group of offensive linemen. Stenberg had fallen behind, among others, fifth-round rookie Colby Sorsdal and undrafted rookie Brad Cecil in the training camp pecking order.

Lions training camp winners and losers from the first three days of padded, full-contact practice

The first week (and change) of Detroit Lions training camp is in the books. Head coach Dan Campbell has presided over a lot of action to start his third training camp at the helm in Detroit.

Three of the last four practices featured full pads and contact. Those are the most important ones for evaluation purposes.

Here are the players who stood out to me as winners and losers in the padded practice sessions at the start of Lions training camp.

Lions Week 17 injury update: Kerby Joseph, Josh Reynolds return to action

Lions Week 17 injury update: WR Josh Reynolds returned in full, while S Kerby Joseph was one of 3 Lions to come back in a limited capacity

There were some positive developments on the Detroit Lions injury front on Thursday as the team prepares to host the Chicago Bears in Week 17.

Three of the six players who sat out Wednesday’s practice returned to action in a limited capacity. Most notable amongst that group is starting safety Kerby Joseph, who was idled with a back problem to start the work week.

Reserve offensive lineman Logan Stenberg (illness) and special teams LB Josh Woods (biceps) were also back on Thursday as limited participants.

Three players remained out:

  • OL Kayode Awosika (ankle)
  • S DeShon Elliott (shoulder)
  • C Frank Ragnow (foot)

Ragnow normally takes the first two days of practice off each week, so his absence is nothing unexpected. Elliott remains day-to-day per head coach Dan Campbell, but it’s not looking great for the team’s top run-defending safety to play against the Bears.

Wide receiver Josh Reynolds missed Wednesday’s session with an illness, but he was back as a full participant on Thursday.

Lions injury update: 6 miss practice to start Week 16 as the illness bug strikes Detroit again

Lions injury update: 6 miss practice to start Week 16 as the illness bug strikes Detroit again

Preparations for the Week 17 showdown with the Chicago Bears began on Wednesday for the Detroit Lions. The Lions kicked off the practice week without six players and another one limited in the session.

Three of the players were listed with illness designations. WR Josh Reynolds and OL Logan Stenberg were out, while FB Jason Cabinda was back in full action after missing all of last week with the illness bug that has been going around the locker room for the last few weeks.

The Lions reported both starting safeties out. DeShon Elliott continues to sit with a shoulder injury, while rookie Kerby Joseph is out with a back issue. Elliott did not practice or play at all in Week 16.

Center Frank Ragnow, as is customary, sat out the first practice of the week with his ongoing foot injury. Reserve LB and special team ace Josh Woods was sidelined with a biceps injury.

In an upgrade from last week, reserve OL Kayode Awosika was a limited participant with his ankle issue. Awosika has been out since Week 13.
