Eagles TE Zach Ertz reports for training camp amid uncertainty surrounding his future

Eagles TE Zach Ertz reports for training camp amid uncertainty surrounding his future in Philadelphia

As the Eagles sit just jours away from the start of their first training camp practice under new head coach Nick Sirianni, one of their most polarizing stars showed up for work.

Despite reports of unhappiness and wanting to move on, tight end Zach Ertz reported for the start of training camp on time amid uncertainty about his future with the team. It was expected that Ertz would be traded or cut this offseason, but the moves never came to fruition and the record-setting pass catcher will avoid daily fines by rejoining his team.

Ertz’s future with the team heading up to the season opener is unknown, but it appears Nick Sirianni will have a full arsenal of weapons to start out his first season working with Jalen Hurts as his quarterback.

First look at DeVonta Smith in a Philadelphia Eagles uniform

The Eagles have reported to the NovaCare Complex for training camp 2021, and before the Birds hit the field, some of the players took part in the NFL’s version of media day.

NFL teams and their social media departments take pride in interesting content and nothing gets fans stoked like seeing their favorite players’ in-game uniforms.

Tuesday provided an opportunity for Eagles fans to see DeVonta Smith dressed and ready to dominate in official gameday gear.

The Heisman Trophy winner will be looked upon to provide a spark and dynamic playmaking ability from day one as Philadelphia’s top receiver.

If you look good, you’ll usually play good and Smith definitely fits the part.

NFL sets three roster cutdown dates ahead of 2021 season; How that impacts the Eagles

NFL sets three roster cutdown dates ahead of 2021 season; How that impacts the Eagles

As the Eagles head towards their first training camp under new head coach, Nick Sirianni, the NFL just announced that there will be three cutdown dates to end training camp, instead of the standard two.

NFL teams are currently allowed to carry 90 players during OTAs and minicamps, and the league just announced that the roster expansion will continue well into training camp.

This summer there will be three separate cutdown days coming in August.

The Eagles will have to trim the roster from 90 to 85 players on Aug. 17, then to 80 players on Aug. 24, and finally to 53 players on Aug. 31.

The regular season will begin on Thursday, Sept. 9 with the Buccaneers facing the Cowboys, while Philadelphia will kick off their season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Falcons.

Here’s how the new cutdown dates will impact the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles are less than one week away from a season-opening showdown in D.C. against Chase Young and the Washington Football Team.

With training camp over and several notable changes to the roster, here’s our final 53 man roster projection with two extra players added because the Birds technically can elevate two practice squad players per week, basically carrying 55 if they so choose.

QB – 3 — Carson Wentz, Jalen Hurts, Nate Sudfeld

Sudfeld was the unquestioned backup but Hurts looked sharp at times during training camp. It wouldn’t be a shock if the Eagles moved on from Sudfeld, but if he makes the team he’ll be the backup one week from now.

Boston Scott

RB – 3 — Boston Scott, Corey Clement, Miles Sanders

The Eagles appeared prepared to enter the 2020 NFL season with two holdovers from last season and a refurbished Corey Clement, but it appears only three running backs will make the cut.

Look for the undrafted rookie Adrian Killins to find a role on the expanded practice squad after being a part of the first round of cuts.

Eagles Rookie WR John Hightower among 5 young players that have stood out to Doug Pederson

Doug Pederson names 5 early training camp standouts for the Eagles’

The Philadelphia Eagles are fully engulfed in the 2020 training camp and several young guys have landed on Doug Pederson’s radar. The Eagles head coach held a zoom meeting with the media on Thursday and he mentioned five young players by name that have stood out.

“I think there’s really several guys. We’ve talked about [WR] Jalen [Reagor] just a little bit. [WR] Quez Watkins is another one that has stood out as a receiver, [WR] John Hightower, these guys are improving every single day. [DB Michael] Jacquet as a corner has done some really, really nice things for us. I think about even some of our young linemen, I think of [T] Jack Driscoll off the top of my head who’s come in and we’ve put him in positions to go against [DE] Brandon Graham, go against [DE] Vinny Curry, [DE] Josh Sweat, some of our starting D-ends and done a nice job there.”

“There’s a handful of guys there that we’ve been excited about, and again, there’s a fine line, there’s a balance between getting our starters prepared as you guys have seen in the first couple of days here with also evaluating some of these young players, and we’ve got to make sure that we’re doing right by both groups.”

Reagor is the first-round pick and the guy fans and media alike believe should be ascending, but late-round picks John Hightower and Quez Watkins bring a different dynamic and one that could catapult the Eagles passing game towards record-setting heights.

Doug Pederson speaks on the Eagles utlizing Boston Scott more in the passing game

Doug Pederson says Eagles will use Boston Scott in the passing game

The pass-catching running back is all the rave in the NFL and the teams with tailbacks that can also become dynamic in the passing game are having all the success in the league today.

The Eagles found their rhythm on offense down the stretch late last season by targeting Miles Sanders more in unleashing Boston Scott off the bench and into the passing game. After showing that he belonged in the NFL last year, Doug Pederson told the media on Monday that Scott will certainly be even more involved in the passing game this season.

“I do believe that [RB] Miles [Sanders] has the ability to do that. He’s somebody that we’ve said, ‘Hey, you know, you’re our guy going into this season.’ Definitely want to increase what he can do for us, and if that means using him out of the backfield a little bit more in empty situations, we want to do that and see where he can grow and get better and help us. I do think that skill-set is conducive, not only to him but obviously matchups and things of that nature from a defensive standpoint.”

“[RB] Boston [Scott] is the same way. Boston as you saw toward the end of the season, he became kind of our jet sweep guy. He became a guy that we used, he and Miles both actually, out of the backfield together. It’s a good combination of guys together there with those two and really look forward to these next few weeks just getting these guys ready for Washington.”

Both players were among the best in the NFL in receiving yards after the catch as Sanders ranked 11th (418) while Scott was 28th (275) with limited playing time as well.

Eagles add a mural of Kobe Bryant and “Kobe’s 10 Rules” to the NovaCare Complex wall

Darius Slay, Jalen Mills, and former Eagles star LeSean McCoy have all voiced their love for the legend, with the Slay switching his number to 24 in honor of the Black Mamba.

The Eagles are returning the love, painting a mural of Bryant along with his ’10 Rules for Success’ on the NovaCare Complex Wall via Alshon Jeffery’s Instagram.

Bryant passed away at age 41, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others, due to blunt force trauma sustained during a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

Eagles quarterbacks, rookies to report for training camp on July 22

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to start their 2020 training camp on July 28 with the rest of the league, but according to Les Bowen of The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Birds franchise star will likely arrive a week earlier.

On July 22, rookies, quarterbacks, and select veterans will report for training camp. The rest of the 90-member roster is due to return on July 28. “Select” veterans are mostly those returning from injury.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, his staff, and other essential personnel are set to return to the area by July 10 to begin a two-week quarantine and Covid-19 test before the team arrives for camp.

The Eagles plan to make use of both the NovaCare Complex and Lincoln Financial Field, holding meetings at the Linc but practicing at NovaCare, which has several fields.

Philadelphia Eagles could be among NFL teams expected to bring fewer than 90 players to training camp

Philadelphia Eagles could be among NFL teams expected to bring fewer than 90 players to training camp

The coronavirus pandemic has caused all the major sports leagues to reassess how they’ll go about completing their seasons.

With NFL training camps set to start in less than a month, some teams around the league are reportedly exploring carrying fewer players as a way to avoid a rash of the positive tests.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com is reporting that teams around the league are considering carrying fewer than the 90 men allowed on training camp rosters.

Such a move would mean that teams around the league could start making pre-training camp cuts before a lot of guys even get the chance to compete for a job. It could be made easier by the increase in practice squad players.

There have been discussions about teams quarantining players that play important positions while other suggestions have included former a bubble for the NFL season.
