The Eagles are being celebrated for another excellent draft,

Still, we aren’t too far removed from Jalen Reagor in Round 1 and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in Round 2 ahead of several big-named stars now flourishing.

Now ahead of the Falcons’ rookie minicamp, Arcega-Whiteside will head to Atlanta for a tryout.

In eight games with Seattle in 20202, Arcega-Whiteside had just four receptions for 85 yards. In 2021, he played most of his snaps on special teams and caught just two passes for 36 yards.

Arcega-Whiteside had his best season as a rookie, catching ten passes for 169 yards and one touchdown.

Panthers work out former Eagles 2nd-round pick

The Panthers worked out former Eagles second-round pick J.J. Arcega-Whiteside on Friday.

Yes, NFL teams are allowed to work out free agents even if they’ve had a new head coach for only 24 or so hours. And that’s exactly what the Carolina Panthers did on Friday.

Per the league transaction wire, the Panthers worked out wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside.

Before his jump to the NFL, Arcega-Whiteside spent four years at Stanford University. After redshirting his first season there, he went on to reel in 135 receptions for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns between 2016 and 2018.

A strong senior campaign, one that resulted in 1,059 receiving yards and 14 scores, helped boost his stock for the 2019 NFL draft—where he was selected in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles. But, unfortunately, the 6-foot-2, 222-pound pass catcher wouldn’t pan out in the “City of Brotherly Love.”

From 2019 to 2021, Arcega-Whiteside amassed just 290 yards and one touchdown over 40 games for the Eagles. Philadelphia then traded him to the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 15, 2022 in exchange for cornerback Umo Amadi.

After spending a few months on Seattle’s practice squad this past season, Arcega-Whiteside would be released on Nov. 1.

Seahawks take low-risk gamble trading for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

Now both have an opportunity for a fresh start.

The Seattle Seahawks turned a few heads with an unexpected trade Monday afternoon. Seattle sent fourth-year defensive back Ugo Amadi to the City of Brotherly Love in exchange for Philadelphia Eagles tight end/wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside.

Neither player had caught on or found a meaningful way to contribute on their respective teams. Amadi was primarily a backup with Seattle and was typically a weaker link in the secondary, while Arcega-Whiteside made a negligible impact for Philadelphia’s offense. New additions to both the Seahawks and Eagles at those positions – namely rookie corner Coby Bryant with Seattle and star receiver A.J. Brown for Philly – ultimately made both Amadi and Arcega-Whiteside expendable.

Now both have an opportunity for a fresh start.

The Seahawks are certainly set at receiver with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf headlining the act, but there is always room to improve depth, especially with versatility. Arcega-Whiteside recently switched positions to tight end this offseason. Perhaps Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron can use this versatility in creative ways to help the offense and revive Arcega-Whiteside’s career.

If not, the move won’t be a costly one for the Seahawks. Arcega-Whiteside is only due a non-guaranteed $1.64 million.

Interestingly, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside has often been linked with Seahawks star DK Metcalf. During the 2019 NFL draft, the Eagles selected Arcega-Whiteside with the No. 57 overall selection. Famously, the Seahawks picked DK Metcalf seven picks later at No. 64 overall. The Eagles have been routinely mocked for committing what appears to be a major draft blunder.

Eagles moving JJ Arcega-Whiteside from WR to the TE position

In a move that could add years to his career here in Philadelphia, the Eagles are moving JJ Arcega-Whiteside from WR to the TE position

In a move that could save his career and lengthen his stay in Philadelphia, former second-round pick J.J. Arcega-Whiteside is moving from the wide receiver position to the tight end spot according to Jeff McLane of The Inquirer.

Arcega-Whiteside, who was listed at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds on last year’s roster, has reportedly put on weight and is embracing the position switch.

Philadelphia has potential All-Pro Dallas Goedert as the starter at the position, but the backup role is unclear right now, with 2021 undrafted rookie Jack Stoll entrenched, along with Richard Rodgers and Noah Togiai.

Tyree Jackson flashed enormous potential last summer, but he’ll miss the bulk of 2022 rehabbing a torn ACL.

Arcega-Whiteside, who was selected in the second round of the 2019 draft, has just 16 career receptions for 290 yards and a touchdown in 40 games.

His ability on special teams and prowess as a run blocker we’ll likely keep him on the roster going forward, and he could become a mismatch to watch.

Cowboys 51, Eagles 26: Instant analysis of Philadelphia’s Week 18 loss

The 9-8 #Philadelphia #Eagles are the likely No. 7 seed in the #NFC playoffs and they’ll start preparing for a likely matchup against the #Buccaneers or #Rams

The Cowboys got their groove back, while the Eagles avoided any serious injuries to key players as Dallas rolled to a 51-26 road win on Saturday night.

Philadelphia had 11-key players at home via the COVID-19 list and made another 10 players inactive as Nick Sirianni looked to simply get some younger guys more reps while keeping his team healthy for a wild card matchup that means more.

With the regular season now over for the Eagles, here’s an instant analysis from Saturday night’s loss.

Twitter reacts to Eagles’ WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside’s costly dropped TD pass vs. Cowboys

Fans reacted to this dropped TD pass by J.J. #ArcegaWhiteside that cost the #Eagles vs. #Cowboys

Life is about choices and the career of J.J. Arcega-Whiteside will always be defined by names like DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuel, and Terry McLaurin.

That’s just the shortlist of wide receivers drafted after Howie Roseman selected the former Stanford star in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft.

Arcega-Whiteside has just 1 career touchdown reception and his attempt at a second just about sums up his tenure with Philadelphia. With a chance to bring the Eagles to within six of the Cowboys on a free play, Arcega-Whiteside had a pass go right through his hands.

Social media reacted to everything and Arcega-Whiteside’s drop was no different.

Eagles’ Howie Roseman lands near the bottom of a NFL Draft general manager power rankings

Eagles Howie Roseman lands near the bottom of NFL Draft GM power rankings

[jwplayer o8usnftA]

Building a Super Bowl roster is a science and one huge part of that systematic study is the ability to evaluate talent in the player selection process.

NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal recently ranked all 32 NFL general managers based on how they used their draft capital over the past five years.

Rosenthal didn’t include the nine GMs who have run one draft or less.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman landed at the bottom of the list at No. 21, ahead of only Dave Gettleman (Giants) and Mike Mayock (Raiders).

21) Howie Roseman, Eagles
Best pick: Dallas Goedert | Round 2 (No. 49), 2018
Worst pick: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside | Round 2 (No. 57), 2019
Roseman’s first pick back in charge after the Chip Kelly era was Carson Wentz. Signing Wentz to a massive second contract has proven far more costly (the Eagles have a $33.8 million dead-money hit in 2021, per Over The Cap) than moving up to select him second overall, as Wentz contributed significantly to a Super Bowl title and two other playoff teams. The picks Philadelphia traded away for Wentz, however, left the team with a smaller margin for error that Roseman didn’t sufficiently compensate for with quality selections. The next-best picks since 2016 include Dallas Goedert, Miles Sanders, Avonte Maddox, and Derek Barnett. Roseman deserves credit for an Eagles roster that was loaded from 2017 to ’19, but it wasn’t because of recent drafts.

The Arcega-Whiteside pick is the worst of the group and Jalen Reagor doesn’t pan out, you can add the passing of Justin Jefferson to the list as well.

Eagles have spent the 4th most NFL draft capital on WR position in the last decade

As the Eagles prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft, all eyes are on Howie Roseman and what he’ll likely do with the 12th overall pick.

Philadelphia has been linked to the top wide receivers in the draft with the growing narrative that the Eagles general manager can’t blow another opportunity to add a game-changing skill player.

Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus unveiled a revealing stat that shows just how inept Philadelphia has been at evaluating the wide receiver position.

Over the past decade, Philadelphia has spent the fourth most draft capital on the wide receiver position.

The impact from that haul can be debated and we break down the Eagles draft picks from the last decade.

Eagles vs. 49ers inactives: WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside out for Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles released their inactives list for Sunday night’s huge matchup against the San Francisco 49ers and they’ll play with 4 wide receivers and two tight ends after ruling J.J. Arcega-Whiteside out for the matchup.

The Eagles signed Travis Fulgham off the practice squad and called up Deontay Burnett to pair with Greg Ward and John Hightower. Signed off Carolina’s practice squad this week, Hakeem Butler was a name to watch, but he’ll be inactive this week despite the Eagles lacking playmakers.
