PFF: Creed Humphrey was Chiefs’ highest-graded player vs. Bills

According to Pro Football Focus, Creed Humphrey was the #Chiefs’ highest-graded player in Kansas City’s Week 11 loss to the Buffalo #Bills.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ undefeated season has officially ended after their disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

In a game where the Chiefs needed to be perfect to secure a victory, the team struggled on both sides of the ball and couldn’t seem to get out of their own way, committing unnecessary penalties and turning the ball over too many times.

Despite their imperfect performance, Kansas City’s offensive line, led by fourth-year center Creed Humphrey, did their best to counter Buffalo’s vicious pass rush.

On Monday, Pro Football Focus gave Humphrey the highest grade among Chiefs players in Sunday’s loss to the Bills with a grade of 85.9:

The former Oklahoma Sooner has been a standout on this year’s team and is ranked among the best centers in the NFL.

As Kansas City heads to Charlotte this weekend, expect Humphrey to continue his dominance against a struggling Carolina Panthers team.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on the offensive line’s progress: ‘They’re good players’

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid comments on the offensive line’s progress: ‘They’re good players’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed his offensive line during Wednesday’s press conference, focusing on the game packages featuring extra offensive tackles recently required to be eligible as receivers.

“So, our called player was 64 (Wanya Morris), so we could sub Kingsley (Suamataia) out. When we put Mike (Caliendo) in, and Mike could come in – you have to sub the guy out – the called player,” said Reid. “So, to do what we were trying to do, you had to make that move, but I mean, it shows you the trust that we have in Kingsley, too, because we came in and threw the ball. It didn’t matter what the play was. We have two good young guys. They’re getting better as we go.”

Reid has rarely had an issue regarding his highly praised interior offensive line, as each player is dominant in their roles with All-Pro accolades.

“Well, they’re (Trey Smith, Creed Humphrey, and Joe Thuney) all best buddies; they’re always together. They’re good players, and they work at it. They’ve played together long enough where they kind of know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and cover up the weakness with each other’s strengths.” said Reid. “Again, these challenges that we had – and this week won’t be any different. Their (Denver Broncos) inside guys are great, so it’ll be another big challenge for those inside three to execute. Just like last week was, that was a big challenge. They’re good friends, they spend a lot of time together, they study, they’re smart guys.”

The offensive line’s play has dramatically benefited the running game, as Kansas City remains one of the league’s better-rushing teams. The rotation of running backs due to injury hasn’t affected the on-field production, with Kareem Hunt quickly emerging as a standout in the group this season.

#Chiefs center Creed Humphrey joined the rock band Creed onstage during a show in Kansas City this week.

Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey has become one of the defending Super Bowl champions’ most beloved personalities since joining the team as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

Known for his sense of humor, Humphrey has gained attention from fans for his unique pregame shirts which have taken social media by storm early in the 2024 regular season.

Humphrey has become a larger-than-life character with the Chiefs, and on Wednesday night, the All-Pro lineman was spotted at a Creed concert in Kansas City.

Take a look at this video of Humphrey joining Creed onstage, which was posted to Twitter by Kansas City Star columnist Sam McDowell:

In-season diversions like this don’t happen often for Chiefs players who are laser-focused on bringing Kansas City its third consecutive Super Bowl title.

Though the Chiefs have Weathered injuries throughout their 2024 campaign, Humphrey has been available for all of Kansas City’s first nine games and cemented his role as one of the best football players In America.

Since joining the Chiefs, Humphrey has been welcomed by Kansas City’s fans With Arms Wide Open and has been molded like Human Clay to become one of Andy Reid’s most impactful offensive linemen.

With any luck, Humphrey may be able to help push the Chiefs’ win total Higher in Week 10 when Kansas City faces the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Chiefs C Creed Humphrey praises four-year teammate: ‘The most physical lineman in the league’

Kansas City #Chiefs center Creed Humphrey praises right guard Trey Smith: ‘The most physical lineman in the league’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs’ interior offensive line has earned respect around the league for their efficiency and dominance in the trenches. Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey spoke highly of another unit member, right guard Trey Smith, during Thursday’s press conference.

“He’s (Trey Smith) probably the most physical lineman in the league. He loves getting after guys, putting guys on the ground, getting after him,” said Humphrey. “So just, the physicality that it brings, and also, the mental prep that he does throughout the week to be able to see things before it’s happening, pre-snap, post-snap, what’s happening, all those things, he does a great job with it. He understands schemes and concepts well and what we’re trying to do against what the defense has given us.”

Smith remains one of the highest-rated guards in the league but has yet to make a Pro Bowl team. He brings a unique energy to the offensive line unit, leaving a physical impression on opponents and inspiring teammates.

“Yeah, it fires us up and makes everybody else play with that much more of an edge. When you see it in the film, you see your guy doing that. It’s kind of infectious.” said Humphrey. “It makes you want to do it too, and it kind of turns into a competition so you can do it the most on the field. Trey (Smith) usually wins, but it turns into a competition, and he just does a great job; he brings so much energy to the room and gets guys fired up, so it’s a lot of fun to play with him.”

The 2021 sixth-round draft pick has plenty of footage of lifting defenders while blocking, which has added to his popularity around the league.

Chiefs OL dominates Pro Football Focus’ ‘Midseason All-Pro’ team

Three #Chiefs offensive linemen were named to Pro Football Focus’ ‘Midseason All-Pro’ team this week.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the hottest team in football and seem poised to complete the NFL’s first-ever Super Bowl three-peat after getting off to a 7-0 start in the regular season.

Through eight weeks, it seems the only thing holding the undefeated Chiefs back is its offense, which has gotten off to a relatively slow start to its 2024 campaign.

Despite the unit’s deficiencies, the experts at Pro Football Focus seem pleased with what they’ve seen from Andy Reid’s offensive lineman in Kansas City’s first seven games.

This week, PFF named three Chiefs linemen — Joe Thuney, Creed Humphrey, and Trey Smith — to its ‘Midseason All-Pro’ team:

Though this achievement isn’t necessarily an indication that these players will be contenders for the Associated Press All-Pro team at the end of the season, it is certainly a breath of fresh air amid the Chiefs’ offensive struggles.

Stay tuned to see if Thuney, Humphrey, and Smith can keep up their outstanding efforts to earn official All-Pro honors in January.

Pair of Chargers fined for ‘use of helmets’ in Week 4 vs. Chiefs

The NFL continues to discipline the Chargers.

The NFL continues to discipline the Chargers.

Linebacker Denzel Perryman was fined $66,666 for unnecessary roughness/use of helmet against the Chiefs. Perryman attempted to make a tackle on Kareem Hunt and he lowered his helmet and made contact with Hunt’s helmet.

Edge defender Khalil Mack was also fined $22,511. Mack was pass rushing from the outside and came inside, where his helmet made contact with center Creed Humphrey.

While both of these incidents were likely unintentional, the league is being more strict with the safety of the players, and things like this are resulting in consequences.

These came a week after safety Derwin James was suspended for the game against Kansas City for a hit on Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth the week before. Despite appealing, it was upheld.

PFF: Creed Humphrey earns highest grade in Chiefs’ win vs. Bengals

All-Pro center Creed Humphrey was Kansas City’s highest-graded player in the #Chiefs’ win over the #Bengals in Week 2.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday despite a lackluster performance by the reigning Super Bowl champs.

Since the arrival of quarterback Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, almost every game between the Bengals and Chiefs has been a nail-biter, requiring both teams to play at a high level to win.

This week was no different.

Despite needing to be at their best, many of Kansas City’s best players struggled. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for just 151 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. For the most part, his supporting cast was equally average outside of a few key players.

All-Pro center Creed Humphrey was among the Chiefs’ top performers and earned a 90.7 grade from Pro Football Focus for his efforts against Cincinnati.

After such an impressive outing by the former Oklahoma Sooner, it is no surprise that general manager Brett Veach made him the highest-paid center in football earlier this season.

3 Sooners Standout from Week One of the NFL season

Which three Oklahoma Sooners in the NFL had the best week one performances?

Week one of the 2024 NFL season has come and gone, and with all 32 teams in action, fans of the Oklahoma Sooners had their pick of players to cheer for. OU has players on nearly every team across the league, guys who refined their skills in Norman and were good enough to make it to the next level.

This week, three former Sooners rose to the top, turning in excellent performances to help their teams improve to 1-0. Each was instrumental in their squads’ victories to open up the young season.

1. Joe Mixon, RB – Houston

The Houston Texans acquired running back [autotag]Joe Mixon[/autotag] this offseason after he spent his entire career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

In his first game with his new team, Mixon made quite the first impression. Mixon was the league’s leading rusher in week one, carrying the ball 30 times for 159 yards and a touchdown, helping the Texans beat the Indianapolis Colts 29-27.

2. Baker Mayfield, QB – Tampa Bay

Of the league-leading three opening-day starting quarterbacks from Oklahoma, [autotag]Baker Mayfield[/autotag] was the best of the bunch in week one, opening his second year on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In a 37-20 win against the Washington Commanders, Mayfield completed 24 of his 30 pass attempts for 289 yards and four touchdowns. Though he’s on his fourth NFL team since 2018, Mayfield has found a home in Tampa Bay, signing a contract extension this offseason.

The Buccaneers are clearly his team now.

3. Creed Humphrey, C – Kansas City

Kansas City Chiefs center [autotag]Creed Humphrey[/autotag] continues to dominate, as he helped his team earn a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.

https://twitter.com/Nate_Tice/status/1832095683832422790

Humphrey was the second-highest graded center in the league for week one by Pro Football Focus and is regularly one of the best players in the NFL at his position. He also pancaked Baltimore’s All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton on Kansas City’s opening touchdown of the season, reaching a terrifying 14.69 MPH max speed, according to NextGenStats.

With so many stars all over the league, it could be three entirely different players who played their college ball in Norman that shine in week two.

Chiefs vs. Ravens: Creed Humphrey makes bold statement with pregame attire

#Chiefs center Creed Humphrey decided to wear a very specific shirt for Kansas City’s home-opener against the #Ravens on Thursday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs are used to being in the spotlight and will use the experience to their advantage against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.

Before their Week 1 matchup kicked off, Chiefs players set the stage for the highly-anticipated AFC Championship Game rematch by donning unique outfits as they walked to the locker room upon arriving at Arrowhead Stadium.

Center Creed Humphrey, known to be one of the bigger personalities on Kansas City’s roster, cashed in on his red carpet moment with a hilarious shirt made specifically for the Chiefs’ matchup against Baltimore that read: “This is my shirt for the Ravens game.”

Clearly, the former Sooner had this game circled on his calendar, and for good reason.

With a win in tonight’s game, Kansas City can get out to a 1-0 start in their 2024 campaign and gain momentum as they attempt to complete the NFL’s first-ever Super Bowl three-peat.

How many former Sooners made ESPN’s Top 100 NFL Players list?

How many Oklahoma Sooners were made it on ESPN’s Top 100 players in the NFL?

The Oklahoma Sooners are one of the best programs in college football when it comes to putting players in the NFL. The best of the best at OU not only get to the next level but also shine when they get to the pros.

With football season inching closer, ESPN Rank unveiled their list predicting top 100 players for the 2024 season. A total of six former Sooners made the list, spanning multiple positions.

72. Lane Johnson, T, Philadelphia Eagles

Lane Johnson spent four seasons at Oklahoma, starting on the offensive line in both 2011 and 2012. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, spending his entire career in Philadelphia.

Signature stat: Johnson and his former teammate Jason Kelce are the only two offensive linemen over the past 10 seasons to both win a Super Bowl and have at least five Pro Bowl nominations.  Tim McManus, ESPN

70. Creed Humphrey, C, Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs center [autotag]Creed Humphrey[/autotag] checks in two spots above Johnson at No. 70. Humphrey was a Sooner for four seasons, and was a three-year starter from 2018-2020. He was the 63rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and has won two Super Bowls as a Chief. He signed a massive contract extension last week to stay in Kansas City.

There’s no reason to expect any kind of drop-off this season from Humphrey, who led all centers last season in pass block win rate at 98.8%… Signature stat: Humphrey did not allow a sack on Mahomes in the Chiefs’ first two playoff games in 2023 against the Dolphins and the Bills. Adam Teicher, ESPN

64. Mark Andrews, TE, Baltimore Ravens

Next up at No. 64 is Baltimore Ravens tight end [autotag]Mark Andrews[/autotag]. He is another four-year Sooner who started for three seasons from 2015-2017. Andrews was the 86th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and quickly became one of the NFL’s best tight ends. Though he has battled through injuries, he’s one of the biggest matchup nightmares in the league when he’s healthy.

Since (Lamar) Jackson’s first full season as a starting QB in 2019, Andrews ranks fourth in the NFL with 31 red zone touchdowns. Signature stat: In the past five seasons, Andrews has 347 receptions and 37 touchdown catches. Both are the second most of any tight end after Travis Kelce.” Jamison Hensley, ESPN

32. Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

Jumping all the way to No. 32 on ESPN’s rankings, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback [autotag]Jalen Hurts[/autotag] is the next Oklahoma representative. Hurts spent just one season in Norman (2019) but was excellent in leading the Sooners to another conference title and a playoff berth. After being the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, he was chosen 53rd in the 2020 NFL Draft. Hurts has become a star in Philly, leading the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII after the 2022 season.

Given his abilities and the strong supporting cast around him, (Jalen) Hurts could return to his 2022 form, where he went 14-1 as the starter and finished second in MVP voting. Signature stat: Hurts had 15 rushing TDs last season, tied with Josh Allen (also last season) for most by a quarterback in a single season in NFL history. Hurts’ 28 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons lead all players. Tim McManus, ESPN

14. Trent Williams, T, San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle [autotag]Trent Williams[/autotag] lands at No. 14 on the list. The fourth overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft spent four years in Norman, becoming a starter during his true freshman season and never looking back. He was particularly impressive in 2008 and 2009, helping anchor the offensive line during his final two seasons as a Sooner.

At 36, Williams is closer to the end than the beginning, but he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Williams did miss two games with injury in 2023 and has yet to play a full season since he arrived in San Francisco in 2020. He remains dominant but could continue to cement his Hall of Fame status with a full season in which he once again ranks near the top of the league in pass block win rate. Signature stat: Williams’ 95.8% PBWR last season was the best among offensive tackles (ESPN Analytics/NFL Next Gen Stats). Nick Wagoner, ESPN

11. CeeDee Lamb, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Finally, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver [autotag]CeeDee Lamb[/autotag] is the highest-ranked Sooner on the list. Lamb was a starter all three years he was at Oklahoma, and a member of three straight playoff teams in Norman. In his final season, he was named a first-team All-American, after catching 62 passes for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was chosen as the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Lamb is coming off a year in which he led the NFL with 135 receptions, but how will a training camp holdout impact him, at least at the start of the season? Lamb’s strength is working all three receiver spots, making it difficult for defenses to get a read on where he will be — he can even line up in the backfield. Lamb has certainly proved worthy of the No. 88 worn by Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant. Signature stat: Lamb’s 395 receptions is the third most by a player in his first four seasons in NFL history. Todd Archer, ESPN

Lamb’s holdout is over after he agreed to a historic contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys. The deal is the second-highest non-quarterback in NFL history.
