Watch: New Notre Dame Corner’s Career Highlights

Notre Dame added a new cornerback in grad-transfer Nick McCloud on Monday. See McCloud’s best highlights from North Carolina State here.

North Carolina State graduate transfer Nick McCloud announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Monday.  McCloud joins a secondary that will be going through an overhaul entering the 2021 season.

So what is Notre Dame getting in McCloud?  We could write about him all day.  In fact, Mike Chen already did after McCloud announced his commitment to Notre Dame earlier today.  When you’re done checking that out you can also check out McCloud’s highlight tape during his time at North Carolina State below.

The former three-star recruit to North Carolina State had 105 tackles and three interceptions during his time with the Wolfpack.  McCloud played in just two games last season as the captain suffered a knee injury early on in the year.

The commitment of McCloud is the second big win for new defensive backs coach Mike Mickens in the past week as the Irish also landed a commitment from Philip Ryley from Florida.

Top ’21 Notre Dame Target Will Shipley Headed to Clemson

Notre Dame’s top priority in the 2021 recruiting class has chosen a different school. Now what?

When it was announced on Monday afternoon that Will Shipley, the top all-purpose-back in the nation for 2021 would be announcing his commitment on Tuesday, all signs pointed to Clemson being his choice.

Now that fear for Notre Dame fans has become a reality as Shipley has announced his commitment with fantastically produced video.

Shipley was seen as the top priority for Notre Dame in this recruiting cycle and the Irish did one heckuva job getting as close as they did with him all things considered.

However, the rich get richer as Clemson lands Shipley’s talents.

What does Notre Dame do now in terms of finding a running back for their 2021 class?  It’ll be tough to bring anyone at this point that will bring anywhere near the hype Shipley would have entered with.

It doesn’t hurt having Lance Taylor leading the way trying to make that impact in the 2021 class still, however.

Clemson vs. Notre Dame? Five-Star Shipley Set to Announce Commitment

Five-star running back Will Shipley is set to announce his commitment to likely either Clemson or Notre Dame on Tuesday. Details here.

Early Monday evening we received news from the young man himself, Will Shipley, that the prized all-purpose-back will be announcing his college decision on Tuesday afternoon.

If you’ve followed here for any significant amount of time you’re probably aware that this almost certainly means bad news for Notre Dame since Shipley was really hoping to make another visit to South Bend before announcing any decision.  What was supposed to happen in mid-March got canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak when the NCAA suspended all in-person visits between college coaches and prospects.

Shipley is regarded as the best all-purpose-back in the country and has been Notre Dame’s number one priority this recruiting cycle.

I’m not going to sit and make a bunch of predictions because whenever you do with a 17 year old you often end up looking really dumb but I’m with the masses here that it doesn’t appear to be good news for Notre Dame’s chances.

If nothing else, unpaid recruiting coordinator/2021 offensive tackle commitment/very close friend of Will Shipley, Blake Fisher didn’t tweet out anything to indicate good news is coming, something he hasn’t been able to stay quiet about in the past.

We’ll have coverage for you on Tuesday in regards to everything Will Shipley.  If he chooses Notre Dame we’ll be thrilled and celebrate that and if he chooses Clemson then we’ll take a deep look at where Brian Kelly, Lance Taylor, Tommy Rees and company go for a running back in 2021.

Coogan is a three-star talent and you can learn a bit more about him from our write-up earlier tonight in case you missed it  Otherwise we have a couple of things to offer you in regards to Coogan.

First up – his junior year highlight tape.  The young man looks every bit of 6-5, 225 and isn’t looking to just tap opponents out of his way.

Pat Coogan, an offensive lineman from Marist High School on Chicago’s south side committed to Notre Dame on Wednesday evening.  Coogan chose the Fighting Irish just a couple weeks after getting an offer, something Ohio State and LSU followed suit with.

And since his commitment it’s nice to see Coogan already following the footsteps of Blake Fisher and doing some recruiting for Notre Dame’s 2021 class on his own.

Notre Dame Safety Target Chooses Biggest Rival

USC is also the top ranked Pac-12 team on in those rankings which hasn’t been the case the last couple of seasons under Clay Helton.

With no football being actually played or practiced right now it has left us looking more into recruiting, both good and bad.  As Notre Dame and every other football program continue full steam ahead to piece together their 2021 classes, the Irish did miss out on one safety target after he announced his decision Friday.

Xamarion Gordon, a four-star safety from Warren High School in Downey, California will stay in his home state and meet up with the Fighting Irish annually.

It remains early in recruiting based off of the amount of big-time players that are yet to announce their decisions but USC is off to a very good start now with six commitments in their class and are currently ranked 11th nationally on 247Sports.  They also are the top ranked Pac-12 team on in those rankings which hasn’t been the case the last couple of seasons under Clay Helton.

Georgia football among DE Jeremiah Alexander’s top three

The Georgia Bulldogs made the top three to 2022 defensive end Jeremiah Alexander. Alexandes’s top three are LSU, Bama and UGA.

The Georgia Bulldogs made the top three to 2022 defensive end Jeremiah Alexander. Alexander is from Alabaster, Alabama and plays his high school football at Thompson High School. He’s rated as a four-star recruit in his class, but there’s lots of time for that to change.

Alexander announced his top three via Twitter:

Alexander is picking between the three biggest powerhouses in the SEC at the moment: LSU, Alabama, and Georgia. Alexander would be an excellent fit an any other these schools with his excellent burst off the edge.

Georgia currently doesn’t have a commitment in the class of 2022. Despite this, the Dawgs have a very young commit from the class of 2023 in Treyaun Webb.

In 2020 SEC recruiting news, Auburn has boosted their class big-time following their win over Alabama. Georgia still needs to add around ten commitments to their 2020 class.
