Notre Dame lands commitment from a Wafle

Notre Dame’s defensive line for the 2024 recruiting class is already off to a nice start!

For the second recruiting class in a row Notre Dame‘s first two verbal commitments come on the defensive line.  Last year it was [autotag]Keon Keely[/autotag] and [autotag]Brenan Vernon[/autotag] getting the cycle started with spring commitments and at this past spring game [autotag]Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag] announced his commitment to the 2024 class.

Joining Davis-Swain in the 2024 recruiting class will be defensive lineman [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag] who announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Monday.  Wafle is rated as a four-star prospect by both 247Sports and Rivals while On3 pegs him as a three-star talent.  The 6-2, 267-pounder from Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey chose Notre Dame over scholarship offers from Boston College, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Rutgers, and others.

According to MaxPreps, Wafle recorded 47 total tackles and five tackles for loss as a sophomore last season.

Notre Dame offers big time 2024 athlete from Florida

The Irish are hitting the 2024 class hard

The Irish have gotten their first commitment this week in the 2024 class, Michigan defensive end Brandon Davis-Swain, shortly after the Blue vs. Gold game over the weekend. That is just the start and Marcus Freeman and his staff are hard at working looking for their next potential commitment.

Earlier today, Florida athlete Booker Pickett Jr. tweeted out that he has received an offer from Notre Dame. At six-foot-four-inches and 200-pounds, Pickett Jr. could grow into a defensive end or could play behind the end at outside linebacker or even a hybrid, think former Irish linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The Irish are included in Pickett Jr.’s ever growing offer list that already includes Georgia, Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan, USC and others.

It looks like linebackers coach Al Washington is leading the charge for Pickett Jr.’s verbal, as he was tagged in the announcement of the offer. It still early in the Florida athlete’s recruitment, but getting on him early is a good start for the Irish.

Notre Dame lands their first 2024 commitment after Blue vs. Gold game

BOOOOM!!!!

The Irish have done very well on the recruiting trail since Marcus Freeman arrived on campus and it has not changed one bit since he was elevated to the head coaching position. Actually, it has improved, a drastic change in philosophy since the Brian Kelly era.

The Blue vs. Gold game, or any spring game, is a big draw for many prospects and Freeman wanted to take full advantage of the environment. He did exactly that by securing the first class of 2024 commitment in defensive lineman Brandon Davis-Swain. The six-foot-four-inch and 230-pound four-star end from Michigan went to Twitter to make his intentions known.

Davis-Swain had already garnered a lot of interest, holding offers from Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Although early in the process, having that kind of Power-5 interest is extremely impressive. He becomes the first 2024 commit for the Irish as they are now off and running in that cycle.

Michigan State football has “re-offered” 2024 defensive lineman prospect Brandon Davis-Swain of West Bloomfield, Mich.

Davis-Swain announced the recruiting news on Twitter on Monday. He was previously offered by the Spartans in February of 2021, and again was offered a scholarship from Michigan State on Monday.

Davis-Swain is yet to be ranked on 247Sports, but has picked up plenty of interest that would suggest he’ll be a highly-touted recruit. He already holds offers from 17 schools, including Michigan, Notre Dame, Iowa, Illinois, Boston College, Kentucky, West Virginia, Penn State and Tennessee.
