Gallagher smashes Notre Dame’s hope of commitment

Which remaining receiver does Notre Dame have to land now?

Sometimes you’re the sledgehammer and sometimes you’re the watermelon.

Notre Dame was, indeed, the watermelon when it came to four-star wide receiver and top 100 overall player (247Sports) in the 2023 recruiting class [autotag]Rodney Gallagher[/autotag], who announced he plans to play college football at West Virginia.

Gallagher chose West Virginia over seven other finalists, including Notre Dame, Texas, Penn State, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech and Pitt.

Gallagher was one of Notre Dame’s top offensive priorities in what has already been a stellar recruiting class.

Gallagher originally stated he would announce his decision on July 4, but last week decided to bump up his announcement.

Notre Dame has one wide receiver committed in its 2023 recruiting cycle. That is, of course, [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] of Stony Point High School in Round Rock, Texas.

Big 12: The top 2023 recruit for each team in the conference

Here is a look at the top recruit in this cycle for every team in the conference.

The Big 12 conference may not get as much attention as their more famous cousins in the SEC or in the Big 10. However, they have loaded up on some of the best quarterback prospects in the recruiting class of 2023 – including Texas getting the commitment of the nation’s No. 1 ranked overall player, Arch Manning. Several other rival Big 12 schools have also recruited high end QBs in this class.

Here is a look at the top recruit in this cycle for every team in the conference.

Penn State set to host West Virginia commit Rodney Gallagher

Penn State will host a four-star receiver committed to West Virginia this weekend.

With the early signing period approaching rapidly, Penn State could be looking to make some good final pushes for some key recruits to fill out its Class of 2023. And one piece that got away from them earlier within the state could be a prime candidate for a potential flip.

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Rodney Gallagher[/autotag], a Pennsylvania native, is set to pay a visit to Penn State for this weekend’s home game against Michigan State. This is notable because Gallagher is currently committed to West Virginia, and Penn State just had a wide receiver from its Class of 2023 lineup decommit from Penn State.

Gallagher committed to West Virginia in May of this year, roughly a month after making an unofficial visit to Penn State in the spring. Despite being committed to the Mountaineers, Gallagher also paid an official visit to Oklahoma State in June, just a few weeks after committing to West Virginia and a couple of weeks after making an official visit to Morgantown following his commitment.

Gallagher would be a massive flip for Penn State. He is the third-best recruit overall in the state of Pennsylvania according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Penn State already has a commitment from the top in-state recruit, offensive tackle [autotag]J’ven Williams[/autotag], the No. 2 recruit with edge rusher [autotag]Ta’Mere Robinson[/autotag], and the No. 4 recruit in the state, edge rusher [autotag]Jameial Lyons[/autotag] from Philadelphia.

West Virginia also has one other top 10 player from Pennsylvania in its Class of 2023 lineup with linebacker [autotag]Josiah Trotter[/autotag], the son of former NFL linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.

We’ll be sure to keep a close look at any potential recruiting developments coming out of this weekend as Penn State wraps up its regular season at home against Michigan State.

Texas WR target Rodney Gallagher commits to West Virginia

Gallagher chose to stay close to home.

Even with the star studded receiver room that Texas is currently sporting, in about two years time there is a chance that they will lose all of the core they currently have. Continue reading “Texas WR target Rodney Gallagher commits to West Virginia”

Notre Dame receiver target moves up date of decision

What do you make of this?

When Notre Dame made the final cut for receiver recruit [autotag]Rodney Gallagher[/autotag], July 4 was tabbed as the day he would make his decision. A couple of days later, Irish receiver commit [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] took to Twitter to try and sway him towards South Bend. Now, it turns out James and the rest of the Irish won’t have to wait as long for Gallagher to make up his mind. Gallagher apparently doesn’t need as much time to think about his future because he sent out these thoughts:

The Irish and seven other programs, all of which come from Power Five conferences, are in the running for Gallagher’s services. The only thing we know for sure is that he can’t go wrong with any of the finalists. You’d think with his choices, he would take all the time necessary to weigh his options. However, as is often said after engagements become official, when you know, you know.

Notre Dame commit Braylon James targets another receiver recruit

Would you like to see this trio playing for the Irish? Of course you would.

It appears [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag], a four-star receiver commit for Notre Dame, is using Twitter to attract other recruits. Not long ago, James tweeted out a graphic anticipating a collegiate partnership with fellow Texas native [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag]. That must have worked to some degree because the Irish are one of four finalists for Greathouse. With some good mojo, James now is turning his attention to Pennsylvania’s [autotag]Rodney Gallagher[/autotag]:

The good news is Gallagher also has a strong interest in the Irish as they are among the eight finalists for him. Hopefully, James’ efforts will land him at least one of these two receivers as his teammate. For all we know, the three of them have been exchanging texts and calls planning how they will make their first entrance together at Notre Dame Stadium, thereby making these pending announcements mere formalities. It sure would be exciting to know exactly how tight they are, but that will remain a mystery for now.

Notre Dame one of eight finalists for key 2023 wide receiver

Aside from Dante Moore, what 2023 prospect does Notre Dame most badly need to land?

Notre Dame is in the running for another top receiver in the 2023 recruiting class and as of Mother’s Day, the Irish and a few other finalists now know when that prospect will announce his college decision.

[autotag]Rodney Gallagher[/autotag], will be making his college commitment on the Fourth of July this year, a day that Notre Dame fans hope turns into a good one for the Irish.

Wide receivers coach [autotag]Chasni Stuckey[/autotag] is in the middle of trying to reload the Notre Dame wide receivers group after a 2022 class that saw just one commitment and 2021 class having just one commitment remaining.  Notre Dame’s lack of depth at receiver was evident in the Fiesta Bowl and Gallagher would go a long way in helping the future of the position.

Gallagher played quarterback during his junior year at Laurel Highlands in Uniontown, Penn. but is being recruited as a wide receiver.  He’s ranked as a top-100 player overall in the class by 247Sports and the second overall player from Pennsylvania.

Oklahoma State, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Texas, Virginia Tech, West Virginia,

Oregon Ducks survive recruiting cut for blue-chip top-10 ATH Rodney Gallagher

Thanks to his relationship with Junior Adams, 4-star ATH Rodney Gallagher included the Ducks as the only west coast team in his top-8.

When the Oregon Ducks were hiring a new staff under head coach Dan Lanning, they made a concerted effort to try and get some of the best recruiters in the nation to Eugene.

That effort is bearing fruit right now, with a continuous stream of the top players in the nation including the Ducks in their recruiting cut-downs and strongly considering Oregon for a college location.

The latest player to do so is 4-star athlete Rodney Gallagher, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect out of Pennsylvania who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 10 athlete in the 2023 class, and No. 97 player overall.

Gallagher hasn’t visited Eugene but included the Ducks in his most recent recruiting cut-down because of his relationship with WR coach Junior Adams.

“Oregon made the list because I built a nice relationship with (receivers) coach (Junior) Adams,” Gallagher told 247Sports. “Great dude all around.”

We will likely see Gallagher make his way out to the west coast at some point this summer to get a look at the campus, but we know that Oregon has made an early impact in his recruitment.

Penn State makes top 8 for four-star in-state athlete

A key Penn State recruiting target in 2023 has released his top 8 schools. Is Penn State still in the running?

If [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag]’s mission is to keep the top talent from Pennsylvania close to home, then Sunday’s recruiting update from Rodney Gallagher should be considered a step in the right direction. Gallagher, a four-star recruit in the Class of 2023 revealed his top eight schools, and Penn State was among those named.

Gallagher is a 5-10 athlete who has the ability to play receiver, and he has been used as a slot receiver. Gallagher is the second-ranked player in Pennsylvania in the Class of 2023 according to the recruit rankings from 247Sports, and he makes the cut of the top 100 players in the country. Penn State has a commitment from the top recruit in Pennsylvania already on the board with offensive tackle [autotag]J’ven Williams[/autotag] from Reading. Penn State is considered a favorite for the No. 3 Pennsylvania recruit, edge rusher Ta’Mere Robinson, and last week saw Penn State receive a commitment from edge rusher [autotag]Jameial Lyons[/autotag], the No. 7 recruit in the state. Gallagher recently participated in the Polynesian Bowl.

Penn State was involved early on in the recruiting process for Gallagher. The Nittany Lions were the first FBS program to extend an offer to him in April 2020, with an offer from West Virginia and Michigan coming in the days after. As the offers began coming in from schools like Michigan State, Notre Dame, Arizona State, and Wisconsin, Gallagher made a few visits to Penn State. Gallagher unofficially visited in June 2021, September (for the Auburn game), and once more in October (Indiana game) and November (Michigan game). Franklin made a visit to Gallagher in January of this year as more offers continued to flow in.

The other schools making the top eight for Gallagher along with Penn State included Pittsburgh, Texas, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, West Virginia, and Oregon. Notre Dame hosted Gallagher for a weekend visit, allowing the Uniontown recruit to visit Notre Dame’s spring game. Gallagher says he plans on taking visits to Oregon, Oklahoma State, and Texas in June. He has mentioned he would like to be able to commit to a school sometime in July. He will be making another visit to Penn State before making a decision as well.

Penn State seems to be in a favorable spot in this recruiting battle, but Franklin and his staff will have to push hard to secure his commitment away from Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, or West Virginia. All four have great cases for landing Gallagher.
