Alabama makes another big jump in latest USA TODAY Sports Coach Poll Top-25

Alabama continues to rise in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll Top-25

Alabama basketball has managed to string together a handful of impressive in-conference wins after starting the 2023-2024 season a bit slow. The team has taken down some quality teams in a dominating fashion and managed to win some narrow contests against programs near the top.

Next up for the Crimson Tide is a short road trip to the eastern side of the state, where the team will take on Auburn after beating them in Tuscaloosa just a short time ago.

The SEC has picked up steam as the season has progressed, but anything can happen with so much time remaining before the conference and NCAA Tournaments.

After being ranked No. 22 last week, Alabama makes a considerable jump up to No. 16 in this week’s top-25 poll.

Alabama receives votes in latest AP MBB Top-25 Poll

Alabama’s recent win over Eastern Kentucky earned the Tide a few votes in the latest AP Top-25 Poll.

Alabama basketball dominated Eastern Kentucky at home in the Tide’s most recent win. However, it wasn’t enough to make up for the three consecutive losses suffered at the hands of three then-top-10 ranked teams.

In the latest AP men’s basketball Top-25 Poll, the Crimson Tide received a total of two votes.

While this may be discouraging to some fans, it is important to remember that the season is still very young and this team has a ton of talent on it.

Only one non-conference game remains before Alabama heads into SEC play, which should be very interesting.

Last year, the Tide was the top-ranked team entering the NCAA men’s basketball “March Madness” Tournament. This year, while they may not be ranked as high, Alabama is still a team to be reckoned with.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball as the team prepares to take on Liberty at home on Dec. 30.

Small School Victory: 4-star SG Isaiah Coleman commits to Seton Hall

Score one for the small schools.

Usually, the recruiting game is dominated by prominent programs with massive budgets to spend. Every now and then, a small school scores a big win, though. Here’s one such example.

Word of God Academy (NC) four-star shooting guard Isaiah Coleman announced his commitment to Seton Hall on Monday, per Joe Tipton at On3.

Coleman (6-foot-5, 180 pounds) had previously been signed with the College of Charleston and had 14 offers overall, including ones from Mississippi State, UConn and Georgetown.

Jamie Shaw’s scouting report on Coleman at On3 commends his confidence, length and athleticism, as well as no glaring skill weaknesses in his game.

According to the composite rankings, Coleman is 110th overall in the class of 2023. While landing him is an undeniable coup for Seton Hall, his arrival only boosts their recruiting ranking up to No. 89 in the country.

Texas basketball checks in at No. 9 in new AP Top 25 Poll

Texas basketball falls one spot to No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll following a 1-1 week in the Big 12.

Texas basketball falls one spot to No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll following a 1-1 week in the Big 12.

Five Big 12 teams were included in this week’s rankings. Kansas (No. 3), Baylor (No. 7), Texas (No. 9), Kansas State (No. 11) and TCU (No. 22) all made the cut as Iowa State dropped out.

The Longhorns gave two drastically different showings in games against Iowa State and Baylor. Texas played dominant basketball vs. Iowa State in a blowout victory before a flat-footed effort on the road at Baylor.

Texas is in a great position to set itself nicely for the Big 12 and NCAA Tournaments with a record of 22-7 and 11-5 in league play.

Matchups against No. 22 TCU and No. 3 TCU to close out the regular season provide Texas a chance to put a bow on its final resume. Winning both games would secure Texas a share of the Big 12 title for the first time since 2008.

Michigan State men’s basketball ranked No. 10 in ESPN’s way-too-early 2020 rankings

The Spartans are among six ranked Big Ten teams

ESPN thinks Michigan State will have a top ten men’s basketball team for the 2020-2021 season.

The worldwide leader released its latest way-too-early rankings for the men’s college hoops season and the Spartans check in at No. 10. MSU’s blurb focuses a lot on personnel questions revolving around the program, which is fair. NBA decisions loom large for Xavier Tillman and Aaron Henry (and potential five-star recruit Karim Mane) and there is now word that Josh Langford is looking to return to MSU for another season. If those personnel matters break the right way, the Spartans could be prime for another preseason top five ranking and a boatload of expectations.

MSU is one of six Big Ten teams in the top 25 and the third-highest ranked behind Iowa (No. 5) and Wisconsin (No. 7). Ohio State (No. 22), Indiana (No. 23), and Rutgers (!!!) (No. 25) round out the conference.

Ohio Against The World: Buckeye hoops joins football on exclusive list

The Ohio State Buckeyes made history Monday, with both football and basketball ranked nationally in the Top 3

Monday, it was announced that the Ohio State men’s basketball team moved up to No. 2 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, after blowing past then No. 7 North Carolina in Chapel Hill and a feisty Penn State squad in Columbus.

At 9-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, Christ Holtmann’s bunch has joined Ryan Day’s football team in the Top 2, just six weeks into the rankings.

The Buckeyes began the season ranked No. 16 in the nation with just 280 votes, but quickly climbed their way into the Top 10, then the Top 6 and now the Top 2 at 717 votes.

Not only is Ohio State the top-ranked team in the Big Ten for football and basketball, but also the most impressive program since 2015. What are we referring to here you may ask?

Michigan State was the last program to hold a Top 5 spot in both the AP and USA TODAY polls at the same time for each sport, all the way back in 2015.

For reference, the Buckeyes are No. 2 in football and No. 3 in this week’s basketball AP Poll. Meanwhile, the Spartans were ranked No. 3, fresh off a conference championship win over Iowa on the gridiron and ranked No. 1 on the court by December 7th, 2015.

As impressive as Michigan State’s feat was, the Buckeyes have already upped it, winning a conference championship of their own, while going undefeated and ranking in the Top 3 for both sports in each poll.

Now, we know what you’re probably thinking. The last time the Buckeyes were this good in their highest revenue sports, they lost two national championship games to Florida in the same athletic year.

No need to worry, every other program in the College Football Playoff is unranked in basketball at the moment and far from a championship contender right now. In addition, the Buckeyes are the fourth team to win two games over AP Top 10 teams by 20+ points in a regular season. The previous three went on to cut down the nets, and oh by the way, it’s only December.

That 2006-07 Florida program we mentioned above? The Gators were ranked No. 2 in football and No. 7 in basketball after the 2006 SEC Championship Game. So yeah, one could say the Buckeyes are on pace to do big things.

Even whackier? Florida and Ohio State’s next football game in 2006-07 was in Phoenix at the Fiesta Bowl (Championship) and the basketball Final Four was in Atlanta.

You might want to go ahead and book those flights and hotels for New Orleans and Atlanta, but remember, you didn’t hear it from us.

As great as it is in Columbus right now, the future looks even brighter.

(Ok, we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves here, but…. No. 2 in football, No. 2/3 in hoops, reigning Big Ten Tournament Champions in baseball, No. 7 in wrestling, No. 6 in hockey… Geesh)

What a time to be a Buckeye.
