Jonathon Brooks shines again, but status of his injury is unknown

Jonathon Brooks proves every week that he is objectively the best running back in the nation.

Jonathon Brooks proves every week that he is objectively the best running back in the nation.

Brooks had 148 total yards and two touchdowns, averaging 5.5 yards per carry in Texas’ 29-26 victory over TCU.

Unfortunately for the Longhorns, Brooks left the game early in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a leg injury and did not return.

The sophomore has been one of Texas’ best offensively players this season. It will hurt the Longhorns tremendously if Brooks is sidelined for multiple weeks as Texas tries to push for a College Football Playoff spot.

Texas will travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones at 7:00 p.m. CT next week.

FINAL: Texas holds on against TCU, 29-26

The Longhorns are 9-1 after a Week 11 scare.

The Texas Longhorns improved to 9-1 on Saturday. And while it was harder than it had to be, the team earned a win over the TCU Horned Frogs.

The Longhorns held a 26-6 lead at halftime. From there, the team stopped attacking the Horned Frogs with the same intensity on both sides of the football. As a result, TCU came within three points of the Texas lead to bring the score to 29-26.

The game for Texas breaks a nine-game streak of scoring 30 points or more. The offense was just four points away from reaching that mark at halftime but appeared uninterested in putting many more scores on the board in the second half.

Xavier Worthy led the receiving attack with 10 receptions for 137 yards. Fellow receivers Adonai Mitchell and Ja’Tavion Sanders combined for seven catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. Mitchell sealed the game with an impressive 35-yard reception to ice the game away.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers completed 22 of 33 pass attempts for 317 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Despite it all, the Longhorns stand alone atop the Big 12 title race. Texas will look to secure its 10th win next week against the Iowa State Cyclones.

Social media reacts to Texas’ 29-26 win over TCU

Another week, another near disaster for the No. 7 Texas Longhorns.

Another week, another near disaster for the No. 7 Texas Longhorns.

Texas defeated TCU 29-26 on Saturday, but not after giving fans another heart attack.

After leading TCU at halftime 19-6, the Horned Frogs stormed back in the fourth quarter to make it a three-point game.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian seemed comfortable with the lead and made some very conservative play calls, resulting in TCU making it a close game.

Following a Horned Frogs touchdown, Adonai Mitchell iced the game with a 35-yard reception for a first down.

Texas seems to make the game interesting every week but still manages to pull away with the victory.

The Longhorns are now 9-1 on the season and sit atop the Big 12 with two games left to play. Texas takes on the Iowa State Cyclones next week in Ames, Iowa.

Here is how social media reacted to Texas’ close win.

Highlights from the first half of Texas vs. TCU

We look at some of the biggest plays of the first half.

It’s halftime in Fort Worth. The Texas Longhorns lead 26-6 despite a sloppy half from the offense.

Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers showed rust in the early going. That should have been expected with Ewers returning well before one usual returns from an AC sprain. His struggles were not any less noticeable.

Ewers badly missed to wide receiver Xavier Worthy on a go route down the field. The pass was intercepted only for slot receiver Jordan Whittington to chase down the TCU defender and force a fumble.

While Ewers missed several throws he usually makes he made a couple of big throws to help put Texas on the board. Here’s a look at some of the biggest highlight plays from the first half.

Texas Football: Five keys to defeating TCU on Saturday

The Longhorns should win if they execute in these areas.

The No. 7 Texas Longhorns (8-1) take on the TCU Horned Frogs (4-5) in what will be a significant game for both teams.

For TCU, the matchup stands as what could be the final meeting between the two teams. The game is a small consolation prize in what has been a forgettable season for the Horned Frogs.

At stake for the Longhorns is a place in the Big 12 title game and a shot at its first ever College Football Playoff berth. The Frogs have no such aspirations for the 2023 season and have far less to lose. That fact makes the Longhorns’ Week 11 opponent all the more dangerous.

TCU has three games to win twice and enter bowl eligibility. Let’s look at how Texas can prevent an upset in Fort Worth.

By the numbers: No. 7 Texas is favored, but don’t underestimate TCU

With Quinn Ewers’ return imminent, the Longhorns should win handily provided they don’t play down to their opponent.

The Texas Longhorns remained No. 7 in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday, with the opportunity to move up this weekend if they get help from other teams.

TCU will start redshirt freshman Josh Hoover at quarterback instead of Chandler Morris on Saturday, and Texas must capitalize on his mistakes. Hoover has thrown seven touchdowns and seven interceptions this season but lacks the experience to be effective against Texas’ stout defense.

The Longhorns should win handily with Quinn Ewers’ return imminent, provided they don’t play down to their opponent.

Texas will play their final Big 12 game against TCU on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. Here’s a look at the numbers comparing both programs.

Josh Hoover will start at QB for TCU against Texas

Texas will play against the redshirt freshman when they travel to Fort Worth on Saturday.

The starting quarterback of the TCU Horned Frogs, Chandler Morris, has been out of play since Oct. 7 due to a knee injury he sustained against Iowa State.

Since then, redshirt freshman Josh Hoover has taken over the offense, resulting in a fluctuating performance with an equal number of touchdowns and interceptions.

In his best game of the year against BYU, Hoover threw for 439 yards and four touchdowns, but he has thrown an interception in every game he has played.

Texas must capitalize on the freshman’s mistakes and prioritize finishing drives to get into the endzone.

Hoover will start for the third consecutive game on Saturday as Texas heads to Fort Worth for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff.
