Alabama basketball has been playing very well as the 2023-2024 college basketball regular season nears its end, but the Tide could not get it done on the road against a strong Kentucky team. The Crimson Tide fell to the Wildcats 117-95.

In a battle between two top-three scoring offenses in the nation, it was Kentucky who was able to consistently make shots throughout the duration of the game. The Tide managed to put up 95, but it was not enough.

The SEC Tournament and NCAA ‘March Madness’ Tournament are just weeks away, but Alabama will have to get through a few more conference opponents before then. Up next for Nate Oats and his squad is a road game against Ole Miss.

Before looking ahead, check out the top images from Alabama’s most recent contest.

Fans were quick to take to social media to share their reactions to the Kentucky performance and Alabama’s lack of a performance. They also weighed in on what tonight means for the program’s chances of making a deep run in March for the NCAA Tournament.

March Madness Bracketology: Where is Alabama?

Alabama basketball has goals to make a deep March Madness run, but where will they start? The latest Bracketology update breaks it down.

With only a few games remaining in the 2023-2024 college basketball regular season, Alabama is looking to make a strong push to not only win the SEC, but to improve its seeding for the NCAA ‘March Madness’ Basketball Tournament.

In the latest USA TODAY Sports Bracketology seeding projection by Erick Smith, Paul Myerberg and Eddie Timanus, the Crimson Tide is a No. 3 seed in the South Region, hosted in Dallas.

According to the projection, Alabama would take on No. 14 Morehead State in Brooklyn and take on the winner of No. 6 BYU and the No. 11 seed, which will be between Nebraska and Nevada.

As the third seed, the Tide sits behind No. 1 Houston and No. 2 Marquette. Just behind Alabama at No. 4 is Saint Mary’s and at No. 5 is Utah State.

We are still a few weeks away from the full bracket being revealed and a lot is expected to change. For now, it appears as if the Crimson Tide is set to be a top-five seed in the tournament, barring significant improvement or regression in the final few games of the regular season.

PHOTOS: Alabama’s tough loss to Auburn through the camera lens

A very interesting game in Neville Arena led to an Auburn win over Alabama in the in-state, SEC basketball rematch.

Alabama hit the road to take on a strong Auburn team following a string of impressive in-conference wins. Though the Crimson Tide earned a win over the Tigers in Tuscaloosa just a few weeks ago, it was once again the home team that finished victorious.

A 99-81 loss for the Nate Oats-coached Alabama team leaves the program with an overall record this season of 16-7 and a conference record of 8-2. Before this loss, the Tide had sole possession of first place in the SEC. Now, the team shares the 8-2 record with South Carolina and Auburn. However, of the three, Alabama has the worst overall record.

The team will have to regroup quickly, as their next game will be on Saturday, Feb. 10 against LSU in Baton Rouge.

Before looking ahead to next week, though, relive the interesting matchup between the two in-state rivals with the photo gallery below.

LOOK: Auburn fans are upset over Nate Oats’ comment on Neville Arena

Ahead of Alabama’s game at Auburn, head coach Nate Oats ruffled some feathers with his comment on the Tigers’ Neville Arena.

Alabama men’s basketball head coach Nate Oats is not one to back down from confrontation, as Tide fans have grown to become fond of. His passion for the game sometimes leads to a technical foul and even a rare ejection.

Ahead of Alabama’s second contest of the regular season against Auburn, which will be a road game for the Crimson Tide, Oats attempted to compliment the Tigers’ home court, Neville Arena. However, it seemed to have backfired.

Oats, who got his start coaching high school basketball, said that Neville Arena reminded him of a high school environment where they pack a couple thousand people into a smaller gym, according to Tony Tsoukalas of Tide Illustrated. It was a commentary on the noise level and energy in the building.

Auburn fans did not take too kindly to Oats’ comment and responded with thoughts of their own.

Where is Alabama in USA TODAY Sports’ latest March Madness projection?

The latest March Madness Bracketology projection has Alabama in an interesting spot.

Alabama men’s basketball has been on fire in the SEC. The Crimson Tide leads the league with a record of 8-1 against conference opponents. Overall the team has a 16-6 record with most losses coming against high-quality teams early in the season.

It appears as if Nate Oats’s squad has found its identity. The offense remains hot, but the defense has picked up immensely. Under the leadership of Mark Sears and Grant Nelson, this roster seems poised to be a threat in the postseason.

While there’s still considerable time left in the 2023-2024 regular season, the conference tournament is nearing, which is followed by the NCAA Tournament.

USA TODAY Sports college basketball experts Paul Myerberg, Erick Smith and Eddie Timanus projected the field. Alabama is projected to be an automatic qualifier and be a third seed in the East Region. The Tide’s opening contest would be against 14-seed High Point.

The two teams seeded above Alabama in the East Region would be No. 1 Connecticut and No. 2 Arizona. Not the easiest of routes for the Crimson Tide. However, in order to be the best, the team will have to beat the best.

Alabama will next take on twelfth-ranked Auburn on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7:00 p.m. ET in a rematch of two in-state rivals. The Tide won the first matchup of the season between these teams in Tuscaloosa just a few weeks ago.
