Gators move ahead of Hurricanes in 2023 On3 recruiting rankings

Florida’s recruiting class of 2023 is looking elite and is now ranked ahead of Miami at No. 9 in the composite rankings from On3.

The 2023 consensus football team recruiting rankings from On3 received an update on Friday and the Gators benefitted in a way that should make most of the fans happy.

Florida moved up one spot to No. 9 on the rankings, but that’s a big spot considering it moves the team ahead of in-state rival Miami. At the beginning of the summer, the national (and statewide) narrative was that Miami’s new head coach, Mario Cristobal, was stuffing “Sun Belt Billy Napier” in a locker. Four-star quarterback [autotag]Jaden Rashada[/autotag] pushed back his commitment in June and picked UM over UF, and then five-star offensive lineman [autotag]Francis Mauigoa[/autotag] also picked Miami and Florida. Things looked bad, but Napier had a plan.

He picked up commitments from 13 four-star recruits throughout July and August and positioned the Gators inside the top 10 and a spot behind the Hurricanes. But that doesn’t exactly explain how Florida managed to leapfrog Miami in the rankings without picking up another commitment.

The explanation involves a lot of numbers, but it’s actually quite simple. Up until this update, the On3 consensus team rankings used an average of 16 commits to determine each team’s rankings score. That number has now increased to 17 and Florida has more quality down its list of commits than Miami does.

While the Hurricanes do have a five-star, which boosts their score immensely, that is counterbalanced by the eight three-stars that make up the back half of their recruiting class. In comparison, the Gators have 16 four-stars and four three-stars, putting them 0.004 points ahead in the team rankings.

The Florida-Miami banter on social media has been fun this summer, and it’s incredible how close the two are in the rankings at this point in the cycle. This is a race we’ll be sure to check in on frequently as each update comes in.

Florida nearing top 10 in team rankings following latest commitment

Florida is moving up On3’s team recruiting rankings after flipping four-star linebacker Jaden Robinson.

The Gators added another blue-chip recruit to the class of 2023 on Wednesday, and Florida has moved up to No. 12 in the latest team recruiting rankings update from On3.

Linebacker Jaden Robinson became the 15th four-star recruit to commit to UF and the 17th overall to join the class. The On3 consensus ranked him No. 379 overall in the class of 2023 and No. 36 among linebackers. Adding Robinson was enough to push Florida ahead of Tennessee to No. 12 on the overall rankings, and UF also took sole position of the No. 4 spot among SEC programs.

This will be [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag]’s first true recruiting class as the head coach of the Gators. He assembled a transition class for 2022 in a two-month scramble that finished 20th in the nation, but this will be the first group he gets to spend an entire year recruiting.

The hope is for a top-10 class, and that’s nearing reality. Only USC and Penn State stand between Florida and the promised land. That said, Gator Nation may not be happy unless UF finishes ahead of Miami, which is No. 7 on the list with a pair of five-star recruits in tow.

If Florida lands [autotag]Cormani McClain[/autotag] and a few more four-star recruits, passing Miami could become reality as well. [autotag]Treyaun Webb[/autotag], a class of 2023 running back commit, hinted at some possible recruiting news in the near future and he’s been right before. Perhaps Florida cracks the top 10 sooner than expected.

New No. 1 in 2023 college football recruiting team rankings

Will the new leader ultimately finish with the nation’s top class?

Even when Notre Dame got off to an incredibly hot start in recruiting in Marcus Freeman’s first off-season as head coach you knew that the always powerful programs like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Clemson among others would come charging before too long.

Well, it’s safe to say that time has officially come.

After four-star tight end Ty Lockwood of Thompson’s Station, Tennessee flipped his commitment from Ohio State to Alabama on Tuesday, the Crimson Tide sit atop the 247Sports composite team rankings for the first time with the 2023 recruiting class.

Alabama now has 18 commitments; four of which are five-star talents and 11 more who are graded at four-stars.

How does the rest of the top 30 now shake out?

Here is a look at the updating 247Sports composite team rankings for 2023 as of the evening of August 2, 2002.

Where Wisconsin stands in the latest 247Sports 2023 recruiting rankings

The 2023 recruiting cycle has been a mixed bag for Wisconsin as they look to build on a strong roster.

Nationally, the usual players have been dominating on the circuit. Alabama leads the way according to 247Sports as the Crimson Tide have locked in four five-star recruits in the cycle.

Ohio State is the current Big Ten leader in the clubhouse, as the Buckeyes made their way into the top five of the recent 247Sports recruiting rankings update. The Badgers currently have 13 commitments in the class of 2023, but have yet to land one from a four-star talent according to 247Sports.

Here is a look at where teams stand in the 2023 class:

Mike Farrell believes Arch Manning’s high rating is due to his last name

Arch has the traits and the mindset worthy of his five-star rating.

Texas receives On3 prediction for four-star DL Hunter Osborne

In the On3 consensus, he ranks as the No. 12 defensive lineman.

Hunter Osborne may be trending to the Texas Longhorns following Sydir Mitchell’s commitment.

On Sunday, Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas placed a 60% confidence pick that Osborne would commit to the Longhorns. It appears recruiting momentum has trickled down to the defensive side of the football.

Osborne has been one of the more coveted players for Steve Sarkisian’s staff, but a commit from the four-star talent would be a welcomed surprise. The Alabama product appears to be deciding between Texas, Tennessee, Clemson, and Alabama.

Texas received a commitment from another elite Alabama high school player from Hewitt Trussville High School in the last recruiting cycle. Fellow defensive lineman Justice Finkley chose the Longhorns in their 2022 class.

Osborne would become one of the top players in the class. In the On3 consensus, he ranks as the No. 12 defensive lineman and No. 108 overall player in the nation.

Adding the top pass rusher would bolster Texas’ already talent-laden defensive depth chart.

Texas now has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country for the 2023 cycle

With the addition of Johntay Cook, Texas continues to rise in 247Sports’ 2023 recruiting class rankings. Here’s a look at the top 10 currently:

Texas received a massive commitment from five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II on Wednesday afternoon. Continue reading “Texas now has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country for the 2023 cycle”

Where Alabama’s current 2023 commits rank according to each recruiting service

Even with just a few commitments, Alabama is off to a strong start for the class of 2023.

We all know that recruiting is the lifeblood of any college program and in the modern age of NIL, perhaps recruiting has undergone the most sizeable change.

One thing that hasn’t changed is that [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and Alabama continue to be dominant on the recruiting trail. Currently, Alabama has five commitments in the class of 2023 and all five are ranked within the top 200 according to both On3 Consensus and 247 Composite.

Speaking of rankings, I thought we could take a few minutes to look at where each of Alabama’s 2023 commits rank according to each of the major recruiting services.

Alabama received its first commitment in the class from four-star defensive back Elliot Washington II on Jan. 31. Just a few weeks later, five-star cornerback Jahlil Hurley announced his commitment to Alabama.

Alabama wouldn’t receive its next commitment until mid-April when four-star EDGE defender Yhonzae Pierre chose the Tide. Alabama has received one commitment in each of the last two months, first from four-star quarterback Eli Holstein in May, then four-star offensive tackle Wilkin Formby earlier this month.

Let’s take a look at where each of these prospects ranks according to each service.

College football’s top rated 2023 recruiting classes

What football team has the highest ranked recruiting class for the 2023 cycle? There are a lot of surprises on the list.

The class of 2023 recruiting cycle is heating up. It is summer official visit season for many of the top recruits in the country. Arch Manning, Nyckoles Harbor, and other top class of 2023 recruits remain uncommitted.

Georgia, Alabama, and Texas A&M finished the class of 2022 recruiting cycle with historically good classes. Texas A&M had arguably the greatest recruiting class of all time. Yet, the Aggies and Crimson Tide are not among the top ranked classes in the 2023 cycle (for now).

Now, let’s focus on the class of 2023. Every football program is different. Some programs, like several of the highly ranked classes, prefer to secure commitments as early as possible, while other programs, like Clemson, prefer to ensure that committed recruits never decommit.

What college football team has the highest ranked 2023 recruiting class? There are several surprising programs with elite recruiting classes thus far (as of June 9, 2022).

Where Texas’ 2023 recruiting class ranks after landing S’Maje Burrell

Texas is moving up the recruiting ranks.

Texas received great news over the weekend with the commitment of linebacker S’Maje Burrell. The rising three-star is the third member of Texas’ 2023 class, joining defensive back Jamel Johnson and defensive lineman Dylan Spencer.

Landing Burrell moves Texas’ 2023 class rating up to No. 22 in the country and No. 4 in the Big 12 conference. It is early in the recruiting process but the Horns currently sit behind Oklahoma (No. 16), Baylor (No. 6) and Texas Tech (No. 2) in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff are looking to put together back-to-back top-five recruiting classes in the 2023 cycle. Texas hosted a plethora of high priority prospects in what appeared to be a successful weekend in Austin.

The Longhorns remain firmly in the mix for many sought-after players, including five-star quarterback Arch Manning, running back Rueben Owens and linebacker Anthony Hill.
