Florida moves up in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings after All-American commits

After an All-American committed to the Orange and Blue, the Gators have moved up two spots in 247Sports’ 2023 recruiting rankings

On the heels of Caden Jones‘ Jan. 7 commitment, the Florida Gators have moved up in 247Sports’ 2023 recruting rankings, going from No. 13 to No. 11. They jumped over Texas A&M and Oregon on their way to their new ranking.

Jones announced his commitment at the All-American Bowl broadcast live on NBC last Saturday. The 6-foot-8-inch offensive lineman chose the Orange and Blue over the Aggies and Houston Cougars. Despite being from New Orleans, Napier was able to pry Jones from schools closer to home and make another addition to his 2023 class, which now has 21 members.

The smaller class was strategic for Napier, as he needs scholarships open to be active in the transfer portal. Prioritizing quality over quantity was a point of emphasis Napier made in his opening press conference and subsequent open letter to the fan base. The roster turnover along the offensive line, paired with his size and ability, make Jones a contender for early playing time.

Florida’s 21-member 2023 class joins transfers [autotag]Teradja Mitchell[/autotag], [autotag]CamRon Jackson[/autotag], [autotag]Graham Mertz[/autotag] and [autotag]Caleb Banks[/autotag] as the new faces in Gainesville. It doesn’t look like Napier is stopping just yet. Even though multiple members of the 2023 class have already enrolled early, there is still room for the class to grow with national signing day scheduled for Feb. 1.

SEC football recruiting rankings following the early signing period

A look at the 2023 SEC football recruiting rankings following the early signing period.

Now that the madness of the early signing period has simmered down a bit, it is time to take a peek at how the rankings look for the football programs in the SEC.

To the surprise of no one, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide have a solid grasp on the SEC’s and the nation’s top class followed by Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

A total of 10 SEC teams landed inside the top 25 according to On3’s Consensus Football Team Rankings including four inside the top 10 nationally.

Here is how the SEC recruiting rankings line up following the early signing period according to On3.

Florida makes ESPN’s 2023 recruiting class rankings top 10

The Florida Gators are in the top 10 of ESPN’s national 2023 recruiting rankings. They are the fifth-highest SEC program.

The Florida Gators 2023 recruiting class comes in at No. 9 in ESPN’s 2023 recruiting rankings after early signing day wrapped up on Wednesday.

The Gators had been hovering around the top ten of the recruiting rankings since July when a surge of commitments created a buzz around the Florida program and first-year head coach Billy Napier. This is a stark contrast from the end of June when Napier penned an open letter to the Gator Nation essentially pleading for patience and trust in the process.

Napier was a fantastic recruiter at Louisiana, having the No. 1 recruiting class in the Sun Belt in all four seasons at the helm. But he didn’t do this alone. The addition of top-tier assistants such as assistant head coach and defense/cornerbacks coach [autotag]Corey Raymond[/autotag], co-defensive coordinator, defensive line coach [autotag]Sean Spencer[/autotag], and many more, have had a massive impact on the recruiting trail. Raymond is considered one of the best, if not the best, defensive backs developers in the nation.

Here is what ESPN’s Craig Haubert had to say about the Gators’ No. 9 ranking:

Billy Napier has taken advantage of in-state talent with several Sunshine State pickups, assembling a strong secondary from that pool. The Gators have added several ESPN 300 DBs, including CBs [autotag]Dijon Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Ja’Keem Jackson[/autotag] and CB [autotag]Sharif Denson[/autotag], who has good feet and brings a tough, scrappy demeanor. [autotag]Aaron Gates[/autotag], who stayed on even after committing to the previous staff, projects to defensive back and can be a versatile player with his quickness and ball skills. [autotag]Eugene Wilson III[/autotag], listed as an athlete, projects to WR and is a player who tests very well, which will translate to his play on the field. Adding more potential firepower to their passing attack is [autotag]Aidan Mizell[/autotag], a lengthy target with big-play speed. Rashada hails from California but became a big in-state flip from Miami. With a smooth release and good arm strength, the newest Gator is one of the top QBs in the class. [autotag]Knijeah Harris[/autotag] is a nice addition to the trenches, as he has been a multiyear starter at IMG Academy and should come in ready to compete for playing time. They also flipped ESPN 300 OG [autotag]Roderick Kearney[/autotag], a powerful and flexible big man who could work his way into the two-deep quickly, from Florida State. It is hard to win the SEC without being strong along the defensive front, and Collins leads a talented group of defensive linemen.

The players Haubert named are considered to be the elite of this Florida class.

The smaller class was strategic for Napier, as he needs scholarships available to be active in the transfer portal. Prioritizing quality over quantity was a point of emphasis Napier made in his opening press conference and subsequent open letter to the fan base.

The official national signing day is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2023, with a portion of the 2023 class deciding to enroll early and participate in spring practices.

Florida football inches up in updated 247Sports 2023 recruiting rankings

Here’s where 247Sports has the Gators’ 2023 recruiting efforts ranked following early signing day.

Florida football had a solid showing during the 2022 early signing day on Wednesday, with 22 total players — 20 of whom are in the 2023 recruiting class — officially joining the ranks of the Orange and Blue. [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his army of staffers have put a great deal of emphasis on bringing the top prep prospects to Gainesville as they seek to rebuild a once-proud program and their latest progress has been rather encouraging.

While there are still remaining moves to be made the fans now have a decent idea of what Napier’s first full recruiting class will look like. A good way to evaluate a program’s status is to compare it to others, such as 247Sports’ updated 2023 team recruiting rankings, in which the Gators saw a two-spot improvement moving up to No. 12 overall in the consensus.

Essentially, the Orange and Blue leapfrogged over the Penn State Nittany Lions for the position while the spot was opened up when the Clemson Tigers moved up a rung. The Southeastern Conference has a total of four teams in the top 10, led by the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, followed by the LSU Tigers (No. 6) and the Tennessee Volunteers (No. 10).

The Gators currently have 18 four-star and two three-star players committed in this recruiting cycle, making them the second-highest-ranking team without a five-star signee behind the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who ranks at No. 9.

Texas commits indicate Longhorns could make moves on Wednesday

Texas commits hint at more talent pledging to the Horns.

The Texas Longhorns are set to make a splash on Wednesday according to recruiting analysts. Commits from the 2023 recruiting class indicated they agree.

Wide receiver Johntay Cook indicated as much on Tuesday, stating that the Longhorns could be moving up. Offensive line recruit Payton Kirkland indicated there could be movement in the class as well.

There are a handful of recruits Texas could push for on Wednesday. Tyler Scott, Jelani McDonald and current Louisville commit DeAndre Moore could pull the trigger on an early commitment or signing.

The Longhorns could potentially add another tight end with Ka’Morreun Pimpton as a possible target.

Presently the class is headlined by a host of elite talents in Arch Manning, Anthony Hill, Cedric Baxter, Malik Muhammad, Johntay Cook, Derek Williams, Ryan Niblett and Colton Vasek. Whether or not Steve Sarkisian and company add to the class or simply earn letter of intent signatures from players already committed, the team is set to have a huge day.

Where each 2023 Ohio State football recruit landed on 247Sports updated rankings

It’s no surprise that this class is ranked as one of the best in the country. #GoBucks

When you assemble one of the top-rated recruiting classes in the country, you are bound to have plenty of players who are among the highest-rated in the nation. That is exactly the case for Ryan Day and his Ohio State Buckeyes football program.

The evidence is here, as 247Sports has updated their Top 247 recruits and it is littered with Buckeye commitments. In total there were twelve future OSU stars that made the list with room to add a few more before the early signing period and the traditional signing day in February. Find out below where each of those 12 verbal commits landed in the updated rankings.

(Note: This list has now been updated from 12 to 13 players with the verbal commitment from quarterback [autotag]Lincoln Kienholz[/autotag] on Wednesday, December 14th.)

Top 10 SEC recruiting teams ahead of early signing day

Where does Georgia football rank in the top 10 SEC recruiting rankings?

The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide have the two top recruiting classes in the country. Last season, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Georgia finished with the three top recruiting classes in the country (in that respective order).

Early signing day takes place on Dec. 21. The SEC recruits the best of any conference in the country.

This recruiting cycle, Texas A&M has added quality recruits, but does not have the quantity to even be a top-ten recruiting class. Alabama and Georgia are elite recruiting programs and continue to load their rosters with talent. After finished with the No. 15 recruiting class in 2022, Missouri is not even among the SEC’s 10 best recruiting schools this cycle.

Texas A&M, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss are the only top SEC recruiting teams with lower ranked recruiting classes, per 247Sports, than the 2022 recruiting cycle. There is still a long way to go in recruiting, but this is how things look ahead of signing day.

What SEC football teams are recruiting the best for the class of 2023 cycle?

Where Texas’ 2023 recruiting class would rank with Colton Vasek and Anthony Hill

Steve Sarkisian’s 2023 class would skyrocket should Hill and Vasek choose the Longhorns.

Texas is making waves in recruiting following a huge win over then No. 13 Kansas State. Two premier recruiting targets could be on their way to the Forty Acres.

Multiple crystal ball predictions entered on Monday have Colton Vasek and Anthony Hill Jr headed to the Longhorns. Both players were seen as huge losses when they committed to each of Texas’ top rivals. Lately, they are set to spurn both Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

Vasek, a Texas legacy and elite pass rusher from Austin, first looked to be leaving the Sooners when he took a visit to the Texas game against Iowa State. Some scoffed at the possibility he would choose the Longhorns, but it looks like they could be his No. 1 school presently.

Some have flirted with the idea that Hill would flip from the Aggies for a couple weeks. Now that he has decommitted, the Texas Longhorns are back in the hunt for another top class.

Let’s look at where Steve Sarkisian’s 2023 class would rank in the 247Sports recruiting rankings should Hill and Vasek choose the Longhorns.

Updated SEC recruiting rankings midway through October

With less than two months to go before the early signing period, the Alabama Crimson Tide lead the nation and SEC in recruiting rankings.

Not only are we at the midway point of the 2022 college football season, we currently sit less than two months away from the 2023 early signing period.

As usual, we see the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Ohio State Buckeyes all among the top five. Future SEC members the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are also in the mix for the top five classes in 2023. The Longhorns currently hold a commitment from the No. 1 player in the class, Arch Manning.

In all the SEC holds seven of the top 10 classes if you include the future members, but without them, the conference has five of the 10. Not too shabby. Of the 14 conference schools only Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Missouri rank outside the top 40 classes.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down 247Sports team composite rankings for each of the SEC’s current schools, starting with Missouri.

LOOK: Texas commit Arch Manning has a record-breaking game

Arch Manning passes Peyton and Eli Manning to become Isidore Newman’s all-time passer.

Arch Manning had himself a game on Friday night. The top prospect in the 2023 recruiting class compiled an absurd stat line to become the top passer in Isidore Newman High School history.

Manning threw for 7 touchdowns and 356 yards, completing 17 of his 28 passing attempts. Many questioned his No. 1 recruit ranking in the offseason because of cherry-picked individual statistical performances over his career. Friday’s performance won’t change the minds of critics, but it will challenge the value of their opinions.

Manning passed both of his uncles, Peyton and Eli, to become the most decorated passer in his school’s history. Peyton Manning is widely regarded as one of the 10 best quarterbacks in NFL history, while Eli is a two-time Super Bowl Champion.

Manning projects to thrive in Steve Sarkisian’s offense, though Texas is in no rush to lose Quinn Ewers. Manning is the No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 overall player in the On3 consensus for the 2023 class.
