Notre Dame football offers 2025 Florida linebacker while on a visit

The Irish offer a top Florida linebacker while he was in South Bend

[autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] has been a bit quiet on the recruiting front, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t working on adding to future classes.

This weekend the Irish had a scrimmage before the Blue and Gold game next Saturday and hosted a few prospects. One of those was Florida linebacker [autotag]Gavin Nix[/autotag], the 6-foot and 226 pounder was offered a scholarship while he was on campus.

Nix is rated as the 7th linebacker and 63rd overall player in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He has an impressive offer list already and now Notre Dame is in the mix after making multiple visits to campuses this spring.

The Irish would love for Nix to make a return trip in the fall which would put them in a much better position in his recruitment.

Ohio State among four schools 5-star cornerback is still considering

Ohio State has a shot at a 5-star Florida corner #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] is on fire on the recruiting trail, and two commitments Saturday (Max LeBlanc and Sam Williams-Dixon) kept stoking the flames. The Buckeyes are looking to keep that momentum going, and another five-star is in their sights.

Florida cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] is that target. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 180-pound star has a scholarship offer from every major power in the country. The battle for his commitment is intense and Ohio State is in the thick of it.

On Sunday, Lester III told On3 he is considering four schools: Alabama, Georgia, Florida State and Ohio State. It’s an extremely impressive list for the third-ranked cornerback and 18th overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite, which makes him a five-star recruit.

Lester III visited Columbus this month and visited Georgia and Florida State recently. It will be a tough pull for the Buckeyes to go into the South and bring the five-star north.

Michigan football gets big-time 2024 legacy commitment

HUGE! #GoBlue

This was as close to a no-brainer as possible.

Though he grew up in Texas and it was earlier thought Texas A&M would be a big draw for him, 2024 Austin (Texas) Vandegrift four-star offensive tackle Blake Frazier comes from a Michigan football lineage. His father, Steve Frazier, played for the Wolverines along the offensive line from 1995-99, thus it would make sense that his progeny would follow suit and wear a winged helmet.

On Sunday, that dream became a reality.

Taking to Twitter, the younger Frazier announced he plans to continue his father’s legacy and attend the University of Michigan.

Frazier is the 12th pledge of the 2024 class and he joins Ben Roebuck, Luke Hamilton and Andrew Sprague as the fourth offensive line commitment.

Clemson, Florida, LSU, Oregon and Texas were the other schools in the mix for his services.

He’s listed at 6 feet, 5 inches and 260 pounds, and is No. 207 overall according to the 247Sports composite.

NEW: NCAA D1 Council approves unlimited official visits for high school prospects

Recruits will no longer be limited to five official visits.

A potentially large change in how programs approach recruiting began last week as the NCAA Division I Council voted to allow players to take an unlimited number of official visits. Previously, they had been limited to a total of five.

Under the new rules, players will still be limited to only one official visit per school, barring a coaching change.

Official visits allow for schools to pay for the cost of travel, two nights in a hotel, meals and “reasonable entertainment” for the prospect and up to two family members. It’s important to note that there were already no limits regarding unofficial visits, where the burden of travel, housing and all other expenses fall on the recruit.

This will have beneficial impacts on both sides. For the programs, it allows them to host a larger number of prospects, including ones from across the country who may have difficulties traveling on their own dime. For the players, it also allows them to make a more informed decision without having to cover their own expenses.

Exactly how this will impact teams’ recruiting strategies remains to be seen, but regardless, it is set to be a major departure from how recruiting has operated to this point.

Ducks pick up prediction to land commitment from USC WR Gary Bryant Jr.

The Ducks are now favored to land USC transfer Gary Bryant Jr. out of the transfer portal.

It looks like some veteran playmaking could be on the way for the Oregon Ducks’ wide receiver room in the coming weeks or months.

After entering the transfer portal and making a round of visits, former USC Trojans WR Gary Bryant is set to make a decision about where he will transfer in the coming weeks or months. On Saturday afternoon, 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins put in a prediction for Bryant to end up in Eugene.

The Ducks have a handful of talented and experienced WRs, led by Troy Franklin, but outside of the top four guys — Franklin, Kris Hutson, Traeshon Holden, Tez Johnson — there isn’t a ton of depth at the position.

Adding Bryant to the mix could be big for Oregon, as he could provide instant production to the offense. We will see in the coming weeks when he decides to announce his final decision.

Badgers in contact with class of 2025 guard from Texas

The Wisconsin men’s basketball staff has been in contact with Caleb Steger, a 6-foot-4 class of 2025 guard from Dallas, Texas.

The Wisconsin men’s basketball staff has been in contact with Caleb Steger, a 6-foot-4 class of 2025 guard from Dallas, Texas. The sophomore at Jesuit College Preparatory School has just started receiving interest from college programs, so the Badgers are potentially ahead of the curve.

Steger averaged 14.3 points and 4.7 rebounds over 24 games this past season, earning himself an offer from TCU in February, his only Division 1 offer to this point.

With Wisconsin already interested, they’ll have an opportunity to get him on campus for an official visit in the coming months if they want to pursue him as an option for the class of 2025. In recent years, the Wisconsin program under Greg Gard has churned out backcourt stars like Johnny Davis and Brad Davison.

Penn State gains commitment after Blue-White Game

Penn State added a key in-state recruit in 2024 hours after the Blue-White Game came to a close.

Penn State knew its spring game weekend was going to be a big recruiting opportunity for the program, and it paid off with a commitment in the Class of 2024 in the hours after the conclusion of the Blue-White Game. [autotag]Caleb Brewer[/autotag], an offensive lineman who can play on the defensive side as well, gave his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Saturday evening.

Brewer announced his commitment to Penn State on Twitter, giving Penn State’s recruiting class another quality addition on the line of scrimmage. Brewer, a 6′-4″ and 275-pound three-star recruit out of Wyomissing, follows his former teammate [autotag]J’ven Williams[/autotag] to Happy Valley after Williams committed to the program in the Class of 2023 as the top-rated player in Pennsylvania.

Brewer is the no. 8 player in Pennsylvania in the Class of 2024 according to 247Sports. He committed to Penn State after recent visits to Michigan and Notre Dame, just to name a couple.

Penn State extended an offer to Brewer back in January when he attended a junior day event.

Penn State’s Class of 2024 now has nine players lined up. Brewer is is the fifth player in the recruiting class from Pennsylvania.

Michigan football makes top 5 for big WR target

Let’s get him! #GoBlue

Michigan football is in on several big-time recruits for the class of 2024, and the Wolverines keep making the final cuts for those targets.

While the maize and blue have a star-studded 2024 class right now, Michigan is missing a wide receiver. But receivers Gatlin Bair, Jordan Shipp and Channing Goodwin are all linked to the maize and blue.

Michigan may be in a good position with another one: The Wolverines made the top five for four-star James Madison. The maize and blue will need the fend off Louisville, Oregon, Missouri and Florida State, which also made the top five.

The Fort Lauderdale (Florida) St. Thomas Aquinas 6-foot-3 receiver is listed as a three-star by 247Sports, but he is a four-star on its Composite. Madison is the 41st-ranked receiver in the country and the 42nd-ranked player in the state of Florida.

Here is a scouting report on Madison from a 247Sports scout:

A gangly pass catcher with surprising run-after-catch capabilities. Measured just over 6-foot-3, 190 pounds in Spring of 2022. More importantly, had a near 6-foot-8 wingspan. First emerged on the recruiting scene as a freshman at TRU Prep. Eventually transferred into St. Thomas Aquinas where he cracked the rotation as a junior, totaling 407 receiving yards and six touchdowns for Florida’s 3M champions. Long stride allows him to chew up turf as he works his way up the field while superb body control allows him to make high-level grabs look easy every now and then. Has proven to be a bit of a mismatch on the inside as he can quickly stack linebackers or safeties and get vertical on post/corner routes. At one point looked like he was going to grow into an F tight end of sorts (and has been utilized some in that role on Friday nights), but continues to bill himself as a larger wide receiver. Should be viewed as a potential game-changer that offensive coordinators can get creative with (especially in the red zone) given his skill set. Must keep progressing and fill out, but arrow seems to be pointing in the right direction.

There are currently no predictions on where Madison will land.

MSU football picks up commitment from 2024 Maryland 3-star OL Logan Bennett

Michigan State football has added to its 2024 class

Michigan State football has added to its 2024 class.

The Spartans picked up a commitment from three-star offensive lineman Logan Bennett on Saturday. The commitment comes following the Spartans’ annual spring game event that was held on Saturday and included many recruits on campus for the event.

Bennett hails from Baltimore, Md., and plays for St. Frances Academy. He is listed at 6-foot-5.5 and 300 pounds.

Bennett commits to Michigan State over offers from Boston College, Colorado, Maryland, Charlotte, UConn, Kent State and Marshall. He ranks as the No. 76 interior offensive lineman in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2024 class.

With Bennett’s commitment, Michigan State now is up to four commits in the 2024 class. That includes another offensive lineman prospect in three-star Andrew Dennis — who committed to Michigan State last week.

2024 4-star WR Freddie Dubose Jr. places Texas A&M in his Top 8

Texas A&M finds itself within 2024 4-star wide receiver Freddie Duboses’s Top 8 program list before his Aug. 25 Commitment

When it comes to recruiting in the time of NIL, landing inside the Top lists for every blue-chip recruit is very exciting on the surface, but once the comparison process between the other competing programs begins, it may be the start of a bidding war.

For Texas A&M, the 2024 recruiting cycle has been a slow roll as we near the end of April, but one prospect who has been on head coach Jimbo Fisher’s radar since last Summer has been 4-star do-it-all wide receiver Freddie Dubose Jr. out of Spring Branch, Texas, who recently placed Texas A&M on his Top 8 program list, featuring Texas, Houston, Penn State, TCU, UTSA, Kansas, and Tennessee as their primary competition.

According to 247Sports, Dubose is ranked as the 27th wide receiver in the 2024 class, and the 34th-ranked player in Texas.

Standing at 6-1 and just over 170 lbs, Dubose is due to add substantial muscle mass once he enters a collegiate program, and is one of the most dangerous offensive playmakers once the ball reaches his grasp. Oh, and if you’re a defensive back lined up one on one on the boundary, Dubose’s second-gear speed out of his break will simply embarrass most secondaries.

However, Dubose sadly tore his ACL after the first game of the 2022 season, so aside from his fantastic 2021 film, his 2023 senior season bodes to be his best yet. After only taking one visit to College Station during the recruiting pool party on July 30th, nothing is currently scheduled, though I suspect things are in motion as we speak.
