Five-star prospect says he plans to return for an official visit

A five-star commit missed the game against the Charlotte 49ers but says he wants to return before the Florida State matchup.

A five-star Florida State commit recently told reporters at On3 that he plans to make multiple official visits to the University of Florida before the end of the 2023 season.

Venice High School cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] was on the guest list when the Florida Gators hosted the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday night, but Lester elected to skip out on the game.

Although the prospect is a hard commit to FSU, he still wants to walk the grounds and experience Gainesville again. Lester visited the UF campus in January 2023, but the victory over the Tennessee Volunteers has caught the attention of the 2024 graduate.

“They played against some good guys,” Lester said They couldn’t finish in the red zone, but overall, I like the people and what coach Billy is trying to build out here.”

Lester specifically likes how Florida head coach Billy Napier stays committed to starting young players on his defense, which ranks among the top 10 in the nation.

“I love seeing the young corners out there; the freshmen corners,” Lester said. “That’s what I pay attention to more because I know I will be in those shoes, so I try to look out for the younger guys.”

The class of 2024 recruit plans to return to Gainesville at least one more time before the in-state rivalry matchup between Florida and Florida State.

“I’ll be back. If I don’t make it to the game before FSU… I’m planning to be back before that game, but if not, I know for a fact that game,” Lester said. “And I should be taking a visit here in December.”

Lester is the No. 4 overall cornerback and sits at No. 38 on the national scale, according to 247Sports. He’s also been recruited by top programs such as Alabama, Colorado and Clemson.

Five-star CB Charles Lester III commits to Florida State over Colorado

Despite taking a last-minute trip to Boulder, five-star CB Charles Lester III gave his pledge to Florida State

Despite taking a last-minute visit to Colorado earlier this week, five-star cornerback Charles Lester III announced his commitment to Florida State on Friday evening. Head coach Mike Norvell’s Seminoles had been favored throughout the 2024 prospect’s recruitment.

However, I wouldn’t consider Colorado to be completely hopeless with the early signing period still months away. Alabama and Georgia were also in the picture at the time of his commitment, albeit less so.

Missing out on Lester’s commitment still stings. The 6-foot-1, 171-pound Venice High School incoming senior is the second-ranked CB in his class and the No. 19 overall prospect.

Shortly after Lester announced his pledge to FSU, On3 Recruits revealed that he “silently committed” to the Seminoles back in June.

Colorado’s 2024 class remains at eight commitments.

Five-star CB Charles Lester III on Colorado’s campus ahead of Friday decision

Five-star CB Charles Lester III took a surprise visit to Boulder with his college decision coming shortly

Deion Sanders’ chances at landing five-star cornerback Charles Lester III increased on Tuesday as the 2024 recruit revealed himself touring Colorado’s campus via Instagram Live.

With his college commitment set to be announced Friday evening, Lester’s surprise visit to Boulder has some significant weight behind it. Many still regard Florida State as the favorite, but his last-minute trip to check out the Buffs certainly complicates things.

The 6-foot-1, 171-pound Florida prospect was previously at CU in June and has also taken summer visits to Alabama and FSU. The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 19 overall prospect and the No. 2 CB in his class.

Fellow 2024 Florida wide receiver Josiah Booker, a three-star prospect, is also in Boulder this week on an apparent recruiting visit.

Lester will be announcing his college commitment on Friday (8:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. MT) in Sarasota, Florida.

Colorado commit Zycarl Lewis transfers high schools, joins Charles Lester III

Colorado commit Zycarl Lewis is joining recent #cubuffs visitor and five-star CB Charles Lester III at Venice High School

Class of 2024 Colorado football commit Zycarl Lewis revealed on Tuesday that he’ll be transferring from Carrollwood Day to Venice High School for his senior year. This move means that the Florida wide receiver will soon be playing alongside five-star cornerback Charles Lester III, a recent Colorado visitor who also transferred into Venice ahead of his own senior season.

Lester is heavily favored to land at Florida State, but there’s now a greater possibility that Lewis can persuade his new Venice teammate to join him in Boulder.

Lester plans to announce his college commitment on July 29.

As of Wednesday, Colorado’s 2024 class features eight commits and is ranked No. 41 nationwide, per 247Sports.

Save the date: Five-star CB Charles Lester III to announce commitment in late July

Recent Colorado visitor Charles Lester III set a commitment date

It won’t be easy for Colorado to pry five-star CB Charles Lester III away from Florida State, but it’s never wise to count Deion Sanders out of a recruiting race.

Lester, who visited Boulder earlier this month, is the second-ranked class of 2024 CB and the No. 4 prospect in Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite. He has received five 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions to land with the Seminoles and he was a recent visitor at FSU.

With his senior season at Venice High School nearing, Lester revealed on Tuesday that he’ll be announcing his college commitment on July 29. Hopefully, Lester’s June visit to Colorado was enough to make him heavily consider Coach Prime’s Buffs.

The 6-foot-1, 171-pound defensive back also plans to visit Georgia this weekend, per On3.

2024 5-Star CB Charles Lester III down to three schools, Alabama firmly in the mix

2024 cornerback Charles Lester III is down to three schools — Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State. He is scheduled to take an official visit to Alabama from June 2-4.

Cornerback Charles Lester III of the 2024 class has narrowed his list of potential schools down to three: Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State. While doing so, he also eliminated Ohio State from his list of finalists. Interestingly enough, he has scheduled an official visit to Colorado as well.

Lester III has been a priority target at cornerback for the Alabama coaching staff since receiving an offer from the Tide in January of 2022.

He has scheduled his official visits and is slated to visit to Tuscaloosa from June 2-4.

The other schools that will receive official visits are Colorado (June 9-11), Florida State (June 16-18), and Georgia (June 23-25).

Lester III is trending to Florida State as the Seminoles were his favorite school growing up. However, the three other programs mentioned are each making strong pushes to land Lester’s commitment as well.

5-star 2024 Florida prospect will no longer officially visit Ohio State

The Buckeyes are out of the running #GoBucks

For a portion of 2024 Florida cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag]’s recruitment, it seemed like [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] had a legit chance at signing the 5-star prospect.

After what seemed like a very successful trip to Columbus in April, it was almost a foregone conclusion that 6-foot, 2-inch, and 180-pound corner would return north. Well, that is no longer the case as Lester III went to Twitter and cleared the air about his top list and who he will visit.

Originally with plans to officially visit, Lester III has now dropped Ohio State altogether and is just considering three schools (Alabama, [autotag]Florida State[/autotag], and Georgia) which he will visit with a trip to see Colorado as well.

It’s unfortunate for the Buckeyes as they would have rolled out the red carpet for the No. 2 ranked corner and 15th overall player in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. In the 2024 recruiting class, Ohio State does not have a player at his position committed but is currently favored to land Ohio cornerback Aaron Scott.

Friday Night Notes: Charles Lester III’s top 4, Colorado’s flip targets and more

The latest example is the interest in Riverview (Fla.) five-star cornerback Charles Lester III.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

Cornerback play is a critical part of winning in modern football. Programs that understand this and take it to heart will inevitably have an advantage over those that do not. It should be no surprise then that the top college football teams around the country are consistently in the running to recruit the best high school cornerbacks.

The latest example is the interest in Riverview (Fla.) five-star cornerback Charles Lester III. Twenty-seven different schools have extended offers so far, but Lester recently announced that his top four choices are Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Ohio State.

Lester (6-foot-1, 171 pounds) is making the rounds for his final four. Last weekend he was in Athens according to his Instagram page. He’s also been to Columbus recently and told Sports Illustrated he enjoyed it.

“I was just enjoying the time around the players and coaches. They have a history of producing great DBs.Coach (Ryan Day) just basically told me he would love for me to be a part of the program.”

Lester also has experience on the other side of the ball, posting 53 catches, 652 yards and nine touchdowns over the last two seasons as a receiver.

Going by the composite rankings, Lester is the second-best cornerback in the 2024 class. He ranks No. 4 overall in Florida and No. 15 nationally.

Ohio State among four schools 5-star cornerback is still considering

Ohio State has a shot at a 5-star Florida corner #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] is on fire on the recruiting trail, and two commitments Saturday (Max LeBlanc and Sam Williams-Dixon) kept stoking the flames. The Buckeyes are looking to keep that momentum going, and another five-star is in their sights.

Florida cornerback [autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] is that target. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 180-pound star has a scholarship offer from every major power in the country. The battle for his commitment is intense and Ohio State is in the thick of it.

On Sunday, Lester III told On3 he is considering four schools: Alabama, Georgia, Florida State and Ohio State. It’s an extremely impressive list for the third-ranked cornerback and 18th overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite, which makes him a five-star recruit.

Lester III visited Columbus this month and visited Georgia and Florida State recently. It will be a tough pull for the Buckeyes to go into the South and bring the five-star north.

LSU offers 2024 5-star Florida cornerback

Charles Lester III is a phenomenal athlete who plays corner, receiver and wildcat quarterback.

[autotag]Charles Lester III[/autotag] is a six-foot-two, 171-pound athlete from the 2024 recruiting class. He is from Sarasota, Florida, where he plays for Riverview High School. The Riverview Rams finished the 2022 season 5-7 with a loss to Venice in the third round of the 4S playoffs. Alabama is currently an 81% favorite to land Lester per on3.

Film Analysis: Lester is a talented two-way player for the Rams. He stars as a cornerback, wide receiver, and wildcat quarterback when needed. Lester is a speedster that runs great routes on the offensive side of the ball and is very difficult to tackle. On defense, he uses his incredible ball skills to get a lot of interceptions.
