Oklahoma football offers a high school freshman from Mustang, Oklahoma

Not every day does Oklahoma football offer someone from the state of Oklahoma. OU definitely doesn’t offer in-state kids who can’t drive yet.

Not every day does Oklahoma football offer someone from the state of Oklahoma. The Sooners definitely don’t offer in-state prospects that can’t even drive yet.

That all changed on Thursday.

Oklahoma has seen some blowback in the recent past for its direction of a more national recruiting approach and allowing some in-state players to slip out to other top programs from underneath them. The Sooners have landed defenders Ethan Downs and Jordan Mukes thus far from the state of Oklahoma for the 2021 recruiting class, and they are after another, but one that is far more down the line.

Class of 2023 defensive back Jacobe Johnson (Mustang High School; Mustang, Oklahoma) is currently a freshman in high school. Memphis, Michigan and Oklahoma State are the first three to throw their hats in for the Oklahoma product. The Sooners jumped in the race on Thursday.

Johnson is already listed at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds as a freshman in high school. That is the right body type that defensive coordinator Alex Grinch is looking for in a defensive back. The in-state product is already a heralded name in the basketball world, but it appears as if college football is going to be his calling.

Oklahoma already has commitments from Downs and Mukes in the state of Oklahoma, and are vying for nationally recruited prospects Kendal Daniels (2021) from Beggs, Oklahoma, and Gentry Williams (2022) from Tulsa, Oklahoma. There are plenty more from in-state who could receive offers from the Sooners, too.

UGA offers Valdosta HS cornerback JaDarian Rhym

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to 2022 Valdosta High School cornerback JaDarian Rhym.

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to 2022 cornerback JaDarian Rhym. Rhym is a talented prospect who has received offers from some of UGA’s SEC East rivals: the Florida Gators, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Tennessee Volunteers.

Rhym is 6-1 and weighs 170 pounds. He plays football at Valdosta High School. Valdosta High School is home to some Georgia Bulldog greats including: Malcolm Mitchell and Buck Belue.

The 2022 corner was quite excited to receive an offer from Georgia:

Rhym isn’t afraid to come up in run defense. Perhaps his best trait is his ball skills. Rhym intercepted numerous passes during his sophomore season:

His ability to get off blocks and register key tackles for a loss is one of the many reasons why he’s already getting SEC attention. Rhym will look to add to his frame before playing major college football. His instincts are impressive.

He’ll be prospect to keep an eye on in the future. Kirby Smart and Georgia lack 2022 commitments at the moment, but have been offering a slew of 2022 prospects. Will Rhym choose Georgia or one of the Dawgs’ SEC East rivals?

Texas now eighth ranked class in 2020 recruiting cycle

After landing Jahdae Barron, Texas has moved up to eighth in the 247Sports composite recruiting standings. UT jumped Florida of the SEC.

After landing former Baylor signee Jahdae Barron, Texas has moved up one spot in the 247Sports composite recruiting standings to eighth. Originally behind the Florida Gators, the four-star corner from Austin helped leapfrog the Longhorns over the SEC team.

Barron will join other four-star prospect Kelvontay Dixon as the other cornerback in the 2020 recruiting class. Early enrollees Xavion Alford and Jerrin Thompson come in as safeties to wrap up the 2020 defensive backs.

20 out of 21 players from the 2020 recruiting class come from the state of Texas. Five-star running back Bijan Robinson is the only player from out of state, as he is from Arizona.

Not only did the Longhorns acquire recruits from Texas, but 11 out of the top 30 players from in-state committed to UT. Texas signed the top in-state players at five different positions. The top (two) quarterback, defensive end, defensive tackle, linebacker, and center will all play college ball in Austin.

Being ranked eighth nationally still has Texas as the top spot in the Big 12. Oklahoma will finish second in the conference, coming in at 11th overall.

UGA trending for two 4-star offensive linemen from Georgia

UGA football recruiting is putting in work and is now trending for two 4-star lineman out of the state of Georgia.

Georgia appears to be trending for two of the top offensive linemen in the class of 2021.

Both are from the state of Georgia and both are listed as offensive guards. Terrence Ferguson and Dylan Fairchild are projected to commit to Georgia, per their 247Sports profile pages.

Rusty Mansell, a leading recruiting analyst for 247Sports, recently submitted his crystal ball picks for Fairchild and Ferguson.

He projected both to Georgia, which is good news for the Bulldogs given Mansell’s reputation of being one of the most accurate at predicting where a recruit will go.

Terrence Ferguson:

Ferguson is a four-star guard out of Fort Valley, Georgia. He attends Peach County High School.

Ferguson ranks as the nation’s No. 51 overall prospect, No. 3 offensive guard and No. 5 player from Georgia.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 300-pound lineman made visits to Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. Sam Pittman and Arkansas offered him as well in December.

Dylan Fairchild:

Fairchild, out of Cumming, Georgia (West Forsyth HS), is a 6-foot-5-inch, 298-pounder who plays both guard and tackle.

Per the 247Sports composite rankings, Fairchild is the 211th ranked player in America, the 10th ranked guard and the 22nd player in Georgia.

The Bulldogs offered Fairchild in early March. He has received a great deal of recruiting interest recently, including from Florida State, Auburn and Texas A&M.

Georgia football the favorite to land 4-star Athens WR Deion Colzie?

Georgia Bulldogs appear to be the leader for 4-star Athens WR Deion Colzie.

In March, four-star 2021 wide receiver Deion Colzie, out of Athens Academy in Athens, Georgia, decommitted from Notre Dame and reopened his recruitment.

Though Kirby Smart and the UGA coaching staff cannot recruit Colzie in person for the time being, it sounds as though Georgia is doing everything right in order to land the 6-foot-4-inch local prospect.

Per 247Sports, Georgia has become the crystal ball favorite to land Colzie. Four out of the six favor of the Bulldogs on Colzie’s 247Sports profile page. Notre Dame has the other two.

Colzie ranks as the nation’s No. 46 overall prospect and as the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2021 class.

I would be shocked if Georgia was unable to secure a commitment from a local kid with that much talent.
